BRANDS TESTED: Bosch Icon, Rain-X, PIAA, Michelin, Trico, Valeo, Auto Drive and AERO.Best windshield wipers after 1 year of sun & UV exposure. It's been a year since the original test and even more brands have been added to this test, including rubber and silicone wipers. Brands tested: Bosch Icon, Rain-X, PIAA, Michelin, Trico, Valeo, Auto Drive and AERO. All the the wipers were placed on top of a metal roof to ensure full sun and UV exposure for an entire year. Let's look at them under a microscope to see how they held up and then let's performance test them at 55 miles per hour making our own rain using a rain simulator I added to the truck. Let's also test them simulating heavy rain at low speeds to see how they perform. Hope you enjoy the video!

@@Mr.Beastforpresident Right, and for the record, Consumer Reports is NOT unbiased even though they like to boast how they take no sponsors/advertisers. I watched one of their (C.R.) videos awhile back, and though they have a 'laboratory' that they work out of, I noticed right away that the test method they were using was devised by someone who had no clue as to what a proper test set up should be for the product that they were testing and how it is actually used (and what it is used for) in the real world. Any results would be bogus but advertised as if it were definitive.

The biggest thing I discovered when it comes to wiper blades is that keeping a rag in the car is critical. Running the rag down the wiper blades before driving in the rain significantly improves their performance by getting rid the film of gunk and small particles that build up under them.

@@jshepard152Maybe depends on your climate. I love in a rainy, but also icy/snowy climate. Especially the ice is quite rough on the wipers and possibly the - 45C wiper fluid i use. Bosch holds a perfect clean for years. I've used the old style ones, but they hold snow and ice. New design is best, but most other brands only last a year until they start streaking. I've got 2 cars and tried Michelin, OEM, PIAA and RainX, Bosch outdid them all.

I tried the Bosch Icon wiper blades when they first came out. I put them on my wife's Honda Pilot. I spent years just getting the cheapest auto parts store $7.99 specials. They lasted about 6 months. I had the Bosch Icon blades on that Pilot for three years before they needed to be replaced. A lot more expensive? Yes. But you replace them so much less often that they more than pay for themselves. Needless to say, I've never used anything else.

Thank you Project Farm for your thorough video of this and countless others I have seen you put together and Kasual Kaos for your comment and info. I've always bought the cheap ones from Walmart and always thought wiper blades were wiper blades and don't waste your money on the expensive ones. I've bought some Rain-X blades and they were great, but short lived. I guess our Summer heat kills em? Idk. I live in Georgia and we have very humid Summers and pretty cold Winters. Not as cold as most of the country, but cold enough imo. I'm so tired of buying wiper blades every 6mos or so. I bought some Trico Ultras I found in clearance a while back. If these are short lived, I am going to try the Bosch Icon and see how they last. If they kept good for about 3yrs for you, they must be good. Thank for your comment. They sound promising.

It’s strange, I loved my Bosch blades (and most Bosch stuff) but I’ve experienced their wiper drying out and cracking on several cars - maybe after 1-2 years? I started using PIAA silicone blades back in ~2014 and I’m still on the same set on one car, working fine. The feeling of new wiper blades is a great one and I remember being very impressed by Bosch, they blew away the competition. RainX was close. I guess I just didn’t experience longevity compared to when I switched to PIAA. Plus I can buy wiper replacements themselves and not have to throw away the whole wiper body like Bosch. Writing this here via dialectic method. Not trying to prove you wrong. In fact would be happy to switch back to Bosch if my memory was flawed. Not having good wipers when you need them is rough

As much as I appreciate this channel, I find this testing method quite lazy. Two years on a roof doesn’t simulate regular use. Having purchased and used these wipers, he’s missing the meat of this test for most people: real world highway downpours and months of regular use with the car’s windshield washer nozzles. I went through a couple sets of Costco discounted Bosch Icons; they began skipping at 1 month and fell apart after 6 (not to mention the tremendous aero drag their pronounced rib produces at speed, significantly slowing the downstroke and speeding the upstroke.) Trico Onyx and RainX had the same awful aero drag issue but to a lesser extent, were quieter with less streaking, had better contouring, and served well for 1 year. RainX wipers were better probably because I didn’t need to use them as much in rain due to the hydrophobic film they leave on the windshield. PIAA with metal frames have replaceable blade inserts that I’ve replaced once over nearly 3 years, they contour better to my windshield and wear better despite all the tiny rock chips in my windshield, they leave a hydrophobic coating on the windshield that’s similar to RainX’s, and they don’t suffer from highway aero drag. PIAA for the win. Second place goes to OE (Subaru) wipers. There, you got a better test and real consumer feedback.

I switched from Bosch to PIAA Silicone and my PIAA’s have lasted ~8 years now on one car. Working fine… I have memories of my Bosch Icons drying out and cracking after 1-2 years which still beat the pants off what I used before. I remember bc the Bosch’s were amazing when I installed them and they also are pretty bulky pieces of plastic, I felt bad throwing them out. Anyway YMMV and there are a lot of ppl praising Bosch here. I really liked them. My PIAA’s have just been otherworldly though. I also add RainX water repellent additive to my windshield wiper fluid. Honestly as long as my windshield isn’t super fouled, I barely have to use my wipers. Just spray my windshield a couple times when it starts raining, spread the wiper fluid with my wipers, and most water beads up and rolls right off. Maybe it biased my experiences somewhat; I mean, it’s theoretically possible that my PIAAs would perform worse than Bosch under other conditions, just that my PIAA’s last forever

@@stevebean1234, I have been using PIAA’s exclusively for about ten years. Still using the first set I ever bought! I don’t feel that the newer blades are quite as good as the first blades I bought, but I still don’t think any other brand can come close to the durability of the PIAA blades.

Thanks Project Farm for all your awesome videos. I have been frustrated with wiper blades having to replace them every six months- year. So I also did a bunch of research and checked out a bunch of car and truck forums. What I found out is a lot of people that are into upgrading and fixing up their rigs raved about PIAA wiper blades and how much better silicone is than rubber some said they have lasted for 8 years and are still going good. So I bought a pair on 6/10/19 with 131,324 miles and they work awesome like the day I bought them they are still going strong 3 years later 6/5/22 151,052 miles that's worth every penny to me!! I purchased the super silicone bridge style blades the beams/ I beam style look like a weaker design and have not performed well on my company rig. Also you can buy replacement inserts that are cheaper , but no need so far these are awesome. I have since added them on my two other rigs so far they are awesome no way I am ever buying anything else. Also I have a company rig that has to be serviced by a jiffy lube I have to replace them every year if not sooner they often install the beam style which has all sorts of issues it doesn't apply the pressure across the blade like the bridge style does. I don't usually comment on here but when I find a product like the PIAA I have to say something. Wiper blades are a big business just look at your big box auto store they don't sell PIAA they only sell rubber blades or maybe a semi silicone they want repeat business no thanks. PIAA is all I will every use. Hope this helps someone out thanks.

I have had Bosch wipers twice, idk if they were Icon, but they both SUCKED! Loud, streaky, total crap within a few month. The regular RainX wipers have been significantly better for me.

I had no idea you made this video and it literally popped up in my recommendations right when I’m reminding myself that I need new wipers asap!

Living in Atlantic Canada, wipers are subjected to some really silly weather. -40c to +40c snow sun etc. The rainx is what I use now, they seem to hold up better. The ac Delco ones I had to change twice a year, the rainx ones I change once a year. Just personal experience. Great video as always. I appreciate your commitment to thorough tests. Hope everyone is staying safe.

Thanks for your feedback, have you tried the 100% Silicone blades now put out by several brands? I’m a big fan of Ac Delco parts as well. Most of the time Ac Delco parts are better than the competition. In fact there’s an Ac Delco channel that shows the quality difference on their parts versus Autozone, Orielly the aftermarket etc... for instance: Fuel Pumps, Batteries etc... I know with certainty their pulleys and alternators are quality compare to the competition. My 2008 GMC has 2500 had 541,000+ miles 13,000+ engine hours on the Original Alternator! Replacing the battery 4 times over that time not to overwork/overheat the alternator to keep charging a weak battery.

@@Mr.Beastforpresident most of my replacement parts are ac Delco, I have no problems with anything they make. Or if I do, its easily handled through warranty. Wiper blades however I have found the rainx latitude to last longer in my particular climate. The newer ones I cant speak for or against.

I have Bosch Icons on my truck that have been on there since September 2017 and are still working great. Needless to say, I've gotten my money's worth out of them.
