Korea's only chance was to win by 2 or more and simply hope for Mexico to win their last game.3 The latter seemed more likely to happen but instead it was the other way around.

Back then it was 1-1 for germany and sweden, 2-0 mexico, and 0-2 korea, korea already got no chance of qualifying..but they saved mexico who lost by 3-0 with -1 GD otherwise germany would qualify even with 1-0 victory over korea

@@shineinouzen7669 if Sweden lost to Mexico and Korea won by 2 or more goals, Korea would qualify as Sweden, Germany and Korean would be 1-2 and Korea had the better goal difference

@@gytiskrotu mexico-sweden match is held before the germany-korea match, they literally come to the match knowing they got no chance to qualify

@@shineinouzen7669 it's held at the same time since it's the final match of the group stage. All of the final matches of any group in the group stage are played at the same time so people can't plan strategies around the other game. This happens in every world cup. Check the schedule if you want to.
