Yamaha has a bewildering range of pianos from their most affordable P45/P125 to their entry-level Arius digital console pianos. The types of Yamaha Clavinova from CVP to CLP to CSP and the DGX-660 can also often be confusing. This video demystifyies all these.

Jeremy, a very valuable survey of Yamaha pianos, which I think I can say without bias, are overall the best range of digital pianos available. Of course, personal preferences will lead some buyers to other brands, but for most people seeking a digital piano, Yamaha provides an extraordinary range at almost every price point (with this enthusiasm, I guess I should add that I have no connection with Yamaha!) What is most impressive here is that you have given good info on such a large range in under 20 minutes! Congratulations! [The only thing I might add is, I think the most expensive instrument, the top CVP-809GP piano/arranger model doesn't provide quite as good a piano as the top essentially unadorned piano, the CLP-695GP at around 2/3 the price (the difference of having an excellent arranger keyboard facility {a sort of cut down Genos} included) - but others may disagree on that.]
@JeremySee
@JeremySee 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing Bryan. Yes, for those who are only after the piano sound, CLP-695GP is a better choice. But the 1,600+ voices including Super Articulation 2 & Revo drums like the Genos are very tempting! 😬 The piano sound and touch of both these are identical though, featuring the new GrandTouch action with escapement and counterweights as well as binaural CFX & Bosendorfer Imperial. Have a great Sunday, buddy.

Thank you so much for this. I'd say I'm intermediate to advanced pianist and have been stuck with the Arius for a while now because I'm not sure which piano to upgrade to next for my level! Huge help! :)
@virtualwarp
@virtualwarp 3 жыл бұрын
Which Arius model do you own and how long did it took you before you realized that you needed to upgrade to a more advanced digital piano? I'm asking because I desperately want to learn how to play the piano. I've been looking at the Yamaha YPD-144 as my first ever instrument. I know as good as nothing about playing an instrument and all of it is a little overwhelming and intimidating. I also have no spare money to pay for any lessons giving by an experienced teacher. So, I will use whatever source of knowledge I can find to aid me. Do you have any advice for me? I'd really appreciate it 😉👍
@amirshayanmoghtaderi5840

@@virtualwarp I had ydp-144 as my first piano. I don't remember when I upgraded to an acoustic piano, but it depends on how much you practice every day and remember having a digital piano is a great tool for learning through apps like flowkey and Yousician, also for someone like me who wants to create music a MIDI connection is crucial, and for the resources, I had 5 different teachers before, but almost all of them taught with an outdated and very boring method, and after more than a year that I waste a lot of money and time I gave up for a year, and now I started again about a month, I highly recommend you to check out Pianote lessons, that's incredible the also have a youtube channel, and in their site, they have two or three free courses that you can try before making a decision to purchase a course but I telling you it worth every penny!

Hey Jeremy! Came here specifically to ask for your opinion on which would be the best buy for a digital piano? Korg lp-380 vs. Yamaha ydp-s34 vs. Yamaha ydp-s54 vs. Roland F140R? Looking for most realistic piano feel and sound with stylish design, the other features are secondary but would be nice to have. To be played in a small apartment using the built-in speakers. Thanks very much for your expert opinion!

Jeremy you should review a Medeli DP740 Keyboard I would be interested in your opinion, especially your impression of the playability. To me it is by far has the most piano like feel of any Digital Piano I have played. Yamaha, Korg, Casio, Roland, Kawai, Kurzweil all have action that is heavier than an actual piano, which makes it a little more difficult to play certain single key passages.

Thank you Jeremy. In my opinion, CVP809 is definitely the right option for those who enjoys wide ranges of realistic sounds apart from the acoustic grand piano as one-man band at home or studio. Feeling like the pianist with ability to perform the other sounds as well is absolutely a great advantage to all performers. But I won’t recommend for those who looks only for the piano sound since YAMAHA also has the other series of digital piano to be chosen to match well for this group with cheaper cost.

P45 should be my choice (still within my budget), but it doesn't have escapement... if possible, I want a kinda entry / mid tier digital pianos with escapement (or near acoustic feeling action) I mean I don't want to spend 1500++ just to get the escapement feature where other features I want is already supplied enough from P45, and I don't think I'll be utilizing all those ++ from $1500 pianos anyway (beside the escapement feature)

I'm looking for a keyboard with a fair amount of different functions, that also has that weighted key, grand piano feel too. I've followed a bunch of your links but am opting to just go direct with a question here. I love that you play for your church by the way, that's awesome! I'm also looking for textured keys that won't get sticky or wet after a good amount of playing as you demonstrated in one of your Roland vs Yamaha videos. I'm not playing in a stadium or anything, but I'd like the ability to both play nice classical pieces in my living room (my son is learning too, but I've played for over 30 years), or jump in a band set in the basement or garage have a good time. What you can you recommend for $1500 or less (ideally less but for the right piano I'll plurge)? As my son (young teenager) is also player, I'd like something that will last that hey can continue to play for a long time to come and grow into. I've always been the type to buy better first than constantly upgrade down the road. Much appreciated, enjoy the videos!

@@JeremySee I had bought a p515 couple years ago, but I often wonder, if it is worth having clavinova version, clp645 ( now clp745), with bigger speakers..its tricky because some shops the clavinova speakers sound overly boomy and muffled (if it was alone in a warehouse type setting), and some shops it sounds amazing (smaller rooms). what is your experience in home or studio settings with such instruments I mentioned? is the difference huge? They both have same sample.

Which epiano is the best bang for the buck, if you just need piano sound and want best possible key quality? I have got a Casio CTX 700 but the keys feel so cheap and have a lot of side noises.

I just grabbed a p125 as a beginner but I was mighty close to getting a 515. I just felt that the p125 did exactly what I needed it to do at a good price. Just wanted something to use with daws so I can create music again

Hey Jeremy! I was debating between getting the Yamaha P515 or the Kawai ES8, but would you recommend getting the Yamaha CLP instead? I would like the piano I get to have some portability, but I also want a good quality action and sound. I actually prefer lighter action since my hands are weaker now due to mild arthritis + carpal tunnel, but I will gladly appreciate your opinion on the more ideal piano to get

I am looking at the Yamaha YPD-165 Arius standard where dose it fit in. It will be home use to learn on. and have some friends that paly very well, so on meetings they will most likely be playing it.

I’m back because I went to a piano store to try the Roland FP30 / P125 and really surprised myself that I preferred P125’s key actions and sounds over the FP30. But now Im confused, with the price being so close with the YDP-S34, which should I buy? I’m a Super beginner but I play 1h+ Everyday. Or should I just spring for a Clavinova (635) display set for a few hundred more? Thank you!
