Bestarc Plasma Cutter, Pilot Arc BTC500DP 7th Generation 50Amps Screen Display Dual Voltage 110/220V (The latest generation): amzn.to/3sDYhrJ
Bestarc is a Plasma Cutter company that has been in business since 2010 and claims to sell the most popular plasma cutters on Amazon. Several of their models are listed as the #1 best seller. Their BTC500DP model, of which there are several versions or generations to choose from, seems to be the most popular. The version they invited me to review is the 3rd generation. I was very impressed with its combination of high-end features at a budget friendly price.

How's she goin'? That sure looks like a nice cutter Martin. I checked the price here in Canada and it's $280!! What a difference eh. The cutter seemed to handle all sizes up to 3/8 with ease and that would cover most any kind of material a DIY shop would use. Nice tool Martin. You get a good one there I think!! Take care!!

Hi Mike! It sure seems to be. Yeah, someone else commented about that. That’s a HUGE difference but I don’t know why. It cut the 3/8” steel surprisingly well. I might see if I can find a 1/2” piece to see how it does. It should certainly meet my needs. Thanks for stopping by!

Now you've done it Martin !! You are spoiled now when it comes to cutting metal. I'm still not the best at using them, but if it was a tool used daily, the learning curve would not be so steep. I wouldn't mind having that one for the thinner materials myself. It certainly looks to be a well thought out machine. You'll find better cutting on the mild steel if you hit the cut lines with a wire brush on a hand grinder too. Removing paint, rust or mill scale on new material will make a big difference. Awesome coverage of the machine my friend !!

Thanks for the tips, Windell! I didn’t think mill scale would make a difference. That’s good to know. Thanks for watching and Happy Thanksgiving!

Martin, Great to see you added a plasma cutter to your welding bench. Nice plasma cutter, excellent value at $180 for Black Friday. Did you try it on half inch thick material? Bill

Hi Bill! This is my second plasma cutter but it’s much better than the Vevor model I reviewed in January. I think it would cut 1/2” steel. I’ll see if I can find any to try. Thanks for watching!

I have steel I beams I need to cut up. They are about 14" x 9" x 17' and the steel is about 1/2" thick. They are from a bridge I had replaced and are extremely rusted (you can peel the outer surface with a claw hammer in places). All of the plasma cutters I see are for sheet stock. Will they cut what I need or should I stick to a cutting torch? I was looking at a inexpensive plasma cutter but their thickness rating and duty cycle seem like they are tailored for thinner sheet stock.

My guess is you should either stick with a torch or invest in a heavier duty plasma cutter if you have a lot of cutting to do. This unit might be able to cut 1/2” but not cleanly and the duty cycle would limit you from using it for long cuts. Thanks for watching!

Like Martin suggested, a bit of a heavier machine would do the trick. But you'll find poor results without grinding the flaking rust off to a great extent. The rust will break your arc no matter how slow you go. I have problems with it even with the Hypertherm 65 plasma. Oxy/acetylene would be less of an aggravation on that material as you describe it.
