I don't know nothing about music, probably i don't know how to appreciate this, but the point is that i can be connected with the piece. I had a mix of feelings, the majority were anxiety, panic, fear, and then, an explosion. I was reborn. My heart continues throbbing and the color of my cheeks hasn't come. In few words, it was gorgeous.

This piece is remarkable as is the power and tone pallet of Rostropovich. I heard him perform this piece and was lucky enough to hear him practice it backstage - I’ve never heard so much sound from a cello!

I was in the audience at that concert! It was amazing to see and listen to those 2 musical giants! It took place in the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées between 1976 and 1980. I can't remember exactly the year. Who could knows that?

wonderful to be able to hear this again (I lost my original LP of the recording so it fills a gap in my library - many thanks). I've heard other cellists play this, but only the great R does it for me.

As there are so few great works written for solo cello and orchestra it's a mystery why this is not performed more often. In his time Bloch might have been considered ulta-conservative but now that's of no relevance - it's the music that counts, nothing else, and this is a thoroughly professional composition.

Tomorrow I'm playing in the semis for a concerto competition with Bloch's 1919 Suite for viola and orchestra. I felt a little disheartened when I saw that another competitor is playing Schelomo. I feel like I have no chance against a piece like this, no matter what I enter with, especially if the competitor plays anything like Rostropovich

@John Hajje I played well, but I didn't make the finals. The guy playing Schelomo did, though lol. He didn't win though

You are right if it's a decent guy like Berstein who actually knew what he was doing on the reahersals. There are many "conductors" (dancers) that don't know shit, they just move and make faces.
Жыл бұрын
@@gabrielpssoa Bernstein worked regularly with the Orchestre national de France. My father was sitting in the viola section during those recordings (Bloch, Schuman). He's only had great things to tell me on Bernstein. The kind of conductor that makes an orchestra transcend themselves. Oh, and Rostropovitch was very sweet (if you doubted it).
