At the outset of the Yalta Conference on February 4, 1945, the «Big Three» were all optimistic: victory was in no doubt, and the accord that they had achieved seemed likely to preserve the values they had fought for.
However, in just a few months, nothing would remain of this agreement apart from irreconcilable differences. United in war, the Allies would reveal themselves as divided and rivals in peace. How can such a rapid failure of a real effort at entente be explained? With the Yalta Conference in 1945 to 1953, discover a new world order drawn up by three men, looking for a lasting peace... that would lead inevitably to the Cold War.
Combining archive footage, photographs, original letters and unique testimonies, these two episodes revisit this crucial period in History. A full immersion into postwar years and an emerging new world order.

Durch das Diktat von Versailles kam es erst später zum 2. Weltkrieg. Und Churchill bekam den Friedensnobelpreis……

Everyone underestimated Truman at the beginning. They saw him as a small town hick, a country bumpkin not realizing he had been a head County Judge for more than a decade before he went to Congress. Non-Americans don't realize how pragmatic and what a good judge of characters so many mid=westerners are. And Truman was as plain spoken as they come, always unafraid to tell it like it is. He didn't put up with BS and would cut to the chase which threw other leaders off their game being used to the polished diplomatic people they usually dealt with. Harry and Stalin were very alike in that they both were keen observers of personalities and listened carefully for what was not said.

I agree with your comment! The writer of this documentary seems to portray him as a man of low IQ, because he was a hat salesman, and did not graduate from an Ivy League college. That is a wrong assessment of him. I think he was smarter, and more astute than he is given credit for.

very good documentary showing day by day step by step how the Yalta conference proceeded. Indeed, both Roosevelt and Churchill were incredibly naive to trust Stalin. The Brits and American spies failed miserably in portraying the wolf under sheep's clothing and his long-term ambitions. I find it laughable that even the gardens and plants were bugged by the Soviets. In the film, The Death of Stalin, Stalin's close cohorts were sharp enough to hold secret meetings inside their cars and not in the open. Thank you for an extremely well-done documentary.

Западная пропаганда не обошла этот фильм. Есть моменты правды и лжи. Но человек,хорошо знающий историю, сможет сделать выводы. Я бы назвала фильм "стратегические ошибки Гарри Трумэна". Советский союз был действительно партнёром, но недоверие запада привело к "холодной войне". Советский союз не мог в ней победить, слишком много сил было потрачено в войне с Гитлером. К тому же, после смерти Сталина, разведка запада активно внедрялась в СССР. Удар атомным оружием по Японии не был необходимостью, особенно после победы союза. А слухи о том, что Гитлер делает бомбу, были ложью. Испытание атомной бомбы-это была демонстрация силы. Именно от этого пошла трещина в отношениях союза и запада. Советский союз был вынужден сделать атомную бомбу. К тому же разведка донесла,что после Японии, СССР были бы следующие. Бомбу на западе делали в тайне от союза. Если бы ее делали не против него, то пригласили бы наших инженеров и делали бы ее вместе с союзником. Но пока СССР на исходе сил сражались с Гитлером, бомбу делали против союза, тщательно это скрывая и говоря,что якобы хотят опередить Гитлера. Сталин знал,что Гитлер не делал бомбу и все понял, к тому же его разведка подтвердила. А использовать фашистов в своей разведке это была тотальная ошибка запада, за которую и пой сей день расплачивается весь мир. Так называемые многочисленные советники Трумэна обвели его вокруг пальца. Когда он это понял, было слишком поздно. Много чего можно ещё узнать интересного. Все герои фильма не были святыми. Но остановлюсь. Люди должны сами анализировать и не верить слепой пропаганде.

Перед расстрелом взывал к справедливости и пел Интернационал, Елена крыла матом. Казнь произошла около стены солдатской уборной.

Zu dieser Zeit war ich noch beschützt in Mamas Bauch ,doch am 13. Iuni 1945 kam ich auf diese kaotische Welt . Jetzt bin ich 78J. u. denke oft an diese Zeit zurück . Mr, Churchill was VERY popular in the US during and after WW2. When Truman took over as President, he kept up the close bond between the US and Great Briton. I don't know how much of Mr. Churchill's popularity was because his mother was an American, or the fact that he received a VERY warm reception when he visited Truman's home town and spoke of the IRON Curtain that had descended upon Europe when the war was over. We were all shocked in the US when Mr Churchill was not retained as Prime Minister at the end of WW2.
