Guyana is a forgotten and mysterious country. Wedged between Suriname, Venezuela and Brazil, South America's only English-speaking state also remains one of the poorest and least populated on the continent. Anything can happen in this haunt of adventurers, cowboys and gold diggers. Outside of Georgetown, the seaside capital that looks like a colonial city, the rest of the land looks like a lost world. The Amazon rainforest covers everything, torn here and there by immense meandering rivers. Beyond the jungle: a vast savannah scorched by the sun in summer and invaded by water in the rainy season. Few people dare to venture inland. However, a handful of truck drivers take all the risks to supply food and gasoline to the gold mines and the few villages there. Aboard their Bedfords, those old English army trucks patched up a thousand times, they must tackle rutted tracks, traverse hostile jungle and brave torrents of mud. Their travels take them to some of the most isolated areas on the planet. Here, we do not count in kilometers, but in days spent on the road. And a simple breakdown can quickly have dramatic consequences ...

Those trucks have got to be the toughest trucks in the world to be able to keep going through that much torture. Amazing. What if those drivers got together to pool their resources to build those roads up with truck loads of gravel to make solid road beds.

Love what they call "rusting iron" and sheet metal. That "Rusting Iron" looks like Corten steel to me. As it weathers it changes to red and looks rusty but isn't, and the redder it gets the stronger the steal actually is. Might not be, but looks just like the stuff the US Rail Roads used to make their cases, and houses for their equipment out of.

@davesmith5656
@davesmith5656 Жыл бұрын
Unbelievable that they don't chop some trees and fill those swampy potholes, or bury some carefully placed rocks under the mud. It would take less time, cost less, and the labor would be better organized, into manageable chunks. They might also pack some cowboy food of salted dried beef. The way they have it, every trip is the same swampy road, cable repair, winch repair, engine repair, chassis repair. Wouldn't it be easier to repair the road? If everyone who used it chipped in something each time, it would be a lot more usable, the repairs should last for years, and the skill in making repairs would improve to the point where maintenance isn't hard.
