Kai is a member of the legendary kpop group, EXO! That is a video that consists of performances of snippets of all the songs from his 1st solo mini album. The title track is "Mmmh", you guys should check it out! You should also react to the whole album btw, it's a total bop! Anyway, Kai is actually one of the main dancers in EXO, not exactly in the vocal line, but as you can see, he's a great singer and an amazing performer. Actually, he's at least one of the top three best male dancers in Kpop! And EXO is a group that's been around (and successful) since 2012, way before some of the kpop groups that are viral today! EXO isn't very known in the US cuz they don't do much promotional stuff outside of Asia nowadays. EXO is known as "The Vocal Kings of Kpop", "The R&B King", and most importantly, as "The Nation's Pick", that's how big they are as a kpop group. They paved the way for Kpop groups that are viral today, especially in terms of physical album selling. EXO was the first 21st century Korean artist who sold 10 million copies of album back in 2018, before another kpop group went viral. EXO's 1st album broke the record by being sold for more than 1 million copies in 12 years, in Korea, back in 2012. And each of their albums have always been sold for more than 1 million copies ever since. EXO is also one of the most awarded (if not the most awarded) male Kpop groups in Korea, they're even in the Guinness Book of Records. Great reaction! I thoroughly enjoyed it :) Thank you so much for reacting to this, it really is a very artistic and unique video. Kai actually was very involved with every aspect of this video (and his album), including concept, choreo, his styling, auditioning his backup dancers etc. He even added his own money to increase the budget for this vid and his solo album stuff so could properly convey what he want to to his fans. I believe he is the 1st artist to have detailed mini-videos like this to showcase snippets of tracks from his album. There's a "Film:Kai Commentary" vid where he explains the story behind this vid and reacts to it. I can see the another person, sodabella, has given you a pretty good overview about Exo and what they're currently doing. I really recommend checking out some of their songs like: "Tempo" (recognized for being unique), "Obsession", "Call Me Baby", "Kokobop" or "Monster".... Exo is known for not sticking to any one genre for their songs (although as mentioned they are quite known for more of an R&B style). Each of the songs I suggested have a different vibe and style. "Call Me Baby" is more upbeat, "Kokobop" more relaxed/chill, and both "Monster" & "Obsession" have a darker vibe and MV. If you're interested in ballads, and hearing more of their straight vocals, then check their Winter singles "Miracles in December" or "Universe" (a more rocky ballad). Exo, besides being some of the strongest vocalists in the industry, are also known to have one of the most complex storyline and concept in Kpop. Their elaborate concept spans right from debut till now, and we get hints about things from everything: like MVs, teasers, concerts, lyrics etc. So don't worry if you don't always understand what's happening in their MVs :P One last thing is that Exo debuted with 12 members in 2 Sub-groups: Exo-K (6 members sang in Korean) and Exo-M (other 6 members sang the same songs in Mandarin Chinese). Shortly after debuting, 3 members left... so now Exo is just one big group of 9 members who still sing in Korean & Chinese (they also have Japanese songs or versions sometimes). Also, due to the mandatory enlistment for all Korean males (and other stuff), recently the number of members change in the MVs (so Obsession from 2019 only had 6 members for example. And the new, upcoming comeback MV will have a different 6 members to that in Obsession).... Some MVs only have 8 members in it instead of 9 (but that's a long story).. This is something that has never been done before. Kai gave us a mini MV for all the songs in his album (Those are his songs and he's the one singing). Kai is EXO's main dancer and Idol of Idols. He studied ballet & Jazz when he was young so his dance is very versatile which makes him the best dancer.

Film Kai is a preview of his first mini album. Kai is EXO's main dancer, center, vocalist and sub-rapper. EXO are vocal kings and have some of the best vocalists in Korea. They are on hiatus at the moment as they slowly enlist in the military. So for the duration, they will produce solo projects until all have completed their military services. 2 have returned from the military and coming out with their solo albums, also Kai is doing another solo album, and just before 2 members enlist for the military, they recorded EXO's comeback album to be released probably in the mid year. EXO leans more towards R&B so you will see that they have a lot of R&B songs. One of their main vocalist, Baekhyun, is the highest-selling solo artist in Korea. Baekhyun's new album, Bambi, sold more than 760,000 physical copies on a day of its release.

Exo is a great group to get into more. As an adult, I love Exo's more mature content and cool concept. They are manly even when they wear "feminine" items, it's crazy how that works. Monster X seems to be another more adult group. NCT has some great songs but they seem more for teens and early 20s, depending on the sub-unit. Still great though. Pretty much SM entertainment groups.

They have a worldwide massive fandom, and although Kai is foremost a very popular dancer, he is looked upon by boy and girl groups alike as an idol's idol. They are seasoned performers now, having grown up in front of the cameras together. They are currently in rotational mandatory military service. All Korean males must do 18-24 months of mandatory military service before the age of 29. Two members have finished, two are currently in, two are entering this month, the two remaining youngest may go next year. As the group is split up now, everyone is waiting for all of them to be reunited by 2024. In the meantime fans are in an Exo drought and waiting for existing members at home to make some new music before they get busy with their schedules with filming for movies or dramas. Yeah, Kai's "Film: Kai," as you discovered, is a sort of teaser/sample of all the songs on Kai's solo debut album which is named Kai. I'm not sure if you know this, but Kai is the main dancer of the mega popular Kpop group EXO. EXO debuted in 2012, so Kai has been around for more than 9 years. Kai is considered one of the top two BEST dancers in the entire industry and that isn't just a fan's opinion, but it's a title given to him by his peers and the industry as a whole. (Taemin from SHINee, who happens to be Kai's best friend, who is also under SM Entertainment, is the other top dancer.) There is no one in the industry better then Kai and Taemin when it comes to dancers. I think one reason why Kai's form is so good is because he originally started out as a ballet dancer. So he learned form and technique first before any other style of dance. That is why you can see such precision in his dancing. As a child he fell in love with dancing after seeing the Nutcracker and he told his parents that he wanted to do that. So, his whole fondation with dance began with ballet. But what you are seeing is the whole reason why Kai is considered one of the top two dancers in the industry, because there is pretty much no style of dance that he can't do, and he does it better than almost everyone. Kai became a trainee with SM Entertainment when he was about 12, so he has been honing his skills and dedicating himself to become one of the best in the industry for years. And now he has literally been recognized as one of the best of the best. And not only is he an amazing dancer, but in live performances he is singing live while dancing this intensely. As a member of EXO and an SM Entertainment artist, he has trained his whole career to able to sing live while performing high energy choreography and he can do it for hours and still sound flawless the entire time. SM is known for having some of the best dancers and singers in the industry. That is just a fact about the type of people it selects to be a part of the company. You can't be an SM artist without having amazing singing and dance skills. So even the company's rappers are unbelievable singers and dancers. All of SM's rappers were first chosen to become trainees for their vocal and/or dance skills. It wasn't until after joining the company that they learned to rap. So that is why SM's artists are some of the best vocalists and dancers -- being great rappers is just a bonus. SM is known for cultivating some of the best singers and dancers in Kpop. That is why it has gained the reputation as the vocal powerhouse of the industry. When it comes to SM, this is just the skill level we have come to expect. To understand what is happening in this video, you have to first understand EXO's concept. Everything EXO is involved in, and I literally mean almost everything, is connected in someway to their concept and storyline. EXO's MVs are kind of like a movie -- it's a movie that has been going on for the past 9 years -- since predebut -- and it has no sign of coming to an end any time soon. The one thing you have to keep in mind with all of EXO's MVs, and I really mean all of them -- including their sub-sub-unit MVs and a majority of the member's solo MVs. And because Baekhyun and Kai are involved, even SuperM's storyline -- is that they are all connected and they all tell a little more of EXO's story. To truly understand EXO you need to know that EXO debuted in 2012. EXO's "Mama" song and MV is how EXO was introduced to the world and it explains the group's concept. So to really understand EXO, if you haven't already, you should start from the very beginning and watch BOTH of their "Mama" MVs. (EXO-K and EXO-M) From day one, EXO's concept is that they are aliens from planet EXO and they came to Earth with superpowers on a mission to protect the Tree of Life from the Red Forces. Each of the members has a superpower that is unique to them and almost every MV will have at least one if not all of them using their powers. Exo, as in exoskeleton, means "outer," so as a member of EXO they are outside the ordinary.The group's concept comes from the real term exoplanet, which is a term that is used for a planet that is outside our solar system, so their name was chosen to represent the fact that they are stars that are "out of this world" when it comes to their talents. So, each new MV or project from EXO tells another part of the story, and over the years we fans have started to create a timeline and idea of what we think each part of the story is telling us. Kai's EXO superpower is teleportation, so what you will see throughout his "Mmmh" MV and in some of the scenes in this teaser film, is him teleporting. If you analyse all the scenes within Kai's film you would find connections can be made to EXO's storyline and things to do with past EXO MVs and probably even future MVs, as well as SuperM's storyline. Kai is also a member of SuperM, which is the industry's very first Supergroup. SuperM was created by SM Entertainment in collaboration with Capitol Records in the U.S. They debuted in 2019 and they are designed to bring Kpop to the U.S. market. This group features 7 of the best of the best when it comes to dance, vocals, rap and performance in Kpop. The members of SuperM are some of the absolute best from SM Entertainment's most popular groups, which includes EXO, SHINee, NCT and WayV. SuperM's concept is that they are "The Avengers of Kpop," and the members are supposed to be superhero-like characters who are coming together to form an Avengers-like group to help EXO defeat the evil Red Force. And, like the majority of SM's groups, all of their storylines and concepts intertwin and connect. Also, Kai means opening as in a door or gateway, so as a member of EXO, Kim Jongin (Kai) was given the stage name Kai because, as the center of the group, he is supposed to be the member who connects everyone together and that is why he was given the ability to teleport. Plus, as part of EXO's storyline, it is thought that the members are traveling between dimensions and time periods throughout history in their quest to find the Tree of Life and to fix all the evil and corruption that is thought to be caused by the Red Force. So, it is thought that what you see in this video is Kai traveling between dimensions and across time periods in his search for the other members and the Tree of Life, etc. That is why you see him in so many different locations and scenes in this film. There is also a fan theory that the reason why we see Kai with so many different looks and styles in these scenes is because it's not always Kai that we are seeing. Another part of EXO's storyline is that some of the members have evil alter ego clones that have been created by the Red Force. So, some theories think that sometimes we are seeing Kai's evil X-EXO clone and other times we are seeing superhero, good EXO Kai. All of the EXO members debut solo songs have something to do with the fact that they are members of EXO, and their MVs and songs show them using their powers. Baekhyun's song "UN Village" talks about his power to control light, Suho's "Let's Love" MV shows him with his power to control water, and Kai teleports all over in his "Mmmh" MV. As the first EXO member to have a solo career, the majority of Lay's solo MVs tie into EXO's storyline as well. Even in their solo work, everything EXO does is connected to their concept and storyline as members of EXO. :D Unfortunately, to make it even more difficult to understand, each part of the story is not necessarily in chronological order. So, we fans have to become detectives and analyze every aspect of everything any of the members of EXO/SuperM are involved in to try and piece it all together and figure out where each part fits within their larger storyline. And the story isn't just limited to their MVs, but it extends to everything EXO is involved in, including teaser videos, live performances, concert VCRs (videos played between sets in their concerts) and even a majority of their choreography. As you can see, EXO's and SM's Universe is extremely complicated and complex, and even the most expert of fans, has trouble following the storyline. The thing is, none of us really know exactly what is happening in the story, it's all just fan theories and educated guesses. SM has never confirmed or denied any of our theories and they have left it completely up to fans to figure out what is happening and to create the story. And oftentimes, because the story is not in order, we discover that, with the introduction of a new MV or performance, everything we thought to be true has been turned on its head and we now have to rethink everything. (We only hope that someday SM will come out with a book or movie that will explain the whole story, so we will know whether any part of our theories were correct.) This video did exactly what it was intended to do, which was get you to want to listen to the whole album and hopefully want to buy it. ;P If you want to see and hear the full versions of some of these songs, you should look up the MV for "Mmmh" and some of his live performances. As part of his promotions for his album he has also performed several of these songs, such as "Mmmh", "Reason" and "Ride or Die," live. Plus, he has dance practice videos for both "Mmmh" and "Reason" if you want to see the choreography better. There is a reason why Kai is considered one of the best dancers of all time, and you will understand even more why when you see his dance practice videos.
