Worth noting that the original/oldest Clair sprite actually resembles Jasmine’s official sprite - so it looks like when they redesigned Clair, they kept her bottom half and used it for Jasmine, which is pretty neat

Beta Jasmine looks cute, I hope they revive that design. It's really cool to see a bit of a story change for the game.

Honestly an event where you could just randomly skateboard with Red would have been cool

That corrupted sprite sheet really felt like creepy pasta material before the cleanup. Feels like G/S was going to be way bigger, which is crazy considering it still feels big in the final version.

I should point out that most of the sprites seem to be designed with the Super Game Boy or more specifically the Super Game Boy 2 in mind; as a result the artist are using color differently as opposed to the Game Boy Color intended final product. Also many of the beta sprites were to busy to be cleanly readable on even modern PC much less a Game Boy or CRT.

Some comments I have on this video: For the Kung Fu Master, I wonder if that was supposed to be for Karate King Kiyo (or maybe Karate Master Koichi)? I'm also surprised that the Rock Climber class wasn't reused for X and Y, considering that was the theme of the Cyllage City Gym. Since Red was a Gym Leader, I wonder if he spoke at this point in development rather than being a silent character. It would be interesting to see what Imposter Professor Oak and Imakuni would have done in this game. Imakuni probably would be the victim of a regional difference, as he probably wouldn't have made it into the international versions. I wonder if Giovanni was cut as an Elite 4 member as the big twist of him being in such a major position wasn't as effective the second time. The Soldier may have been cut due to the same reason the whips were, not because he was particularly violent himself, but because he implied violence via military service and war. Not that this would matter now since an ancient war was a big plot point in X and Y.

The Kimono girl was flipped because the fold of her kimono on the beta sprite was the wrong way, which is reserved for the dead. South Man looks like Samurai from the anime, who is a bug catcher.

I really wish they stuck with the original region besides the ugly Kanto city. I've explored it and seen it and it has more life to it. There's a tropical area, a snow area, overall is more diverse. The original Team Rocket story seems to have been way better with Imposter Oak and Giovanni returning. It's a shame that the Johto region was made pretty lackluster in order to include Kanto

Could Silver's sister have been Green as we saw in the Adventures manga? It would have been cool to see her introduced a whole generation before FRLG.

The 99 Giovanni sprite had the same red tint as the two dragon leaders earlier on The rocket ones also had the same tint

Something I noticed about the Guitarist sprite is that the beta appears to be using the head of the Gen 1 sprite but is partially drawn over with what looks like an early version of the final design, with the nose and mouth being on the left side rather than the right and a white line where the neck line would be. It's a shame we are left with this WIP version rather than what came directly before and after this, but still interesting none the less!

Red as a gym leader would be quite cool. I think thet reworked it and made blue as the gym leader

I don’t know how old you were in the 90s (if you were alive) but the nineties were all about extreme sports. Surfing, skateboarding, rock climbing, roller blading. The 90s loved all that stuff. If you were there you remember. lol I barely have memories of the 90s but I remember all that. So the skateboards might just have been to appeal to kids. Lol

I have a theory about gold and silver, that they were originally aimed towards adults. But when Pokémon Had a massive boom among kids, they had to tone down the game to make it so that if any kids who enjoyed any other Pokémon media brought the games they could not be blamed for subjecting them to violence, sexuality ect.

They should've had Karen replace Pryce, and Lorelei stay in the Elite 4. I think it would've been good to have both a steel and a dark-type Gym leader in the game, considering they were brand-new types at the time. Maybe it might've been interesting to have Kurt replace Agatha ... Then again, maybe not (lol) He would've been way better than Giovanni, anyway ... lol I think Will was just created as an answer to a problem they didn't really want to solve ... Still, he looked pretty cool lol
