Wow, who knew? I am just testing the return home and failsafe features, first time so this is actually quite useful! I’ve been hesitant to turn off my radio to check my GPS Rescue fearing that I wouldn’t regain control while the quad flies to the moon potentially. YOU rock Joshua, you the man!!

Yes and no. The main function of failsafe mode is to literally set the flight mode to failsafe through AUX channel when the RX lost connection for some setup. If you're one of those caveman who run analog RX protocol (PPM or PWM), those don't have dedicated bit to send failsafe flag to the FC. Even some receivers with digital protocol don't have working failsafe flag such as on L9R. The default failsafe on those receivers are just throttle cut, which might work for "drop" failsafe but totally undesired for things like "GPS rescue" because it's RX level failsafe, not FC level failsafe. This is when the failsafe mode comes handy, because all receivers have the capability to set channels to certain value when the RX goes failsafe and you just have to set it in a way so when the RX goes failsafe, the FC detect failsafe through AUX channel. Just my two cents.

we use failsafe mode for setting up team racing quads so that we can have multiple quads plugged in and all of them are disabled with the mode except the one we want to fly

Failsafe mode on a switch is also used by racers with multiple quads plugged at once practice sessions so you can fly several quads consecutively. It has multiple uses.

I've used fail safe with land as a last ditch oh $hit wen I first started and it's always just move around with my setup as an artifact I've just never removed it, I can say in all my years I've never had to use it because we train to just disarm, but for no other reason then artifacting it's still in my setup that's just carried over form the very beginning... 😅 🥃cheers🍻

I use failsafe when I want to go on an excursion through the desert to find my quad. I wait until its far away then accidently hit the switch so I can go walk through cacti for 15 min.

One of my friends sent his quad to me to fix and it had this same problem but he was running an XM plus and had failsafe set on AUX12 so the RSSI was constantly triggering the failsafe.. Lol, I figured it out after just fooling around with the settings and I happened to notice that the AUX switches still worked (which I thought was extremely weird because my friend thought it wasn't binding) so that is what led me to the AUX tab.

Huh, I've been using the failsafe mode to test GPS rescue on new quads. I always do the test in this order: 1. GPS rescue switch 2. Failsafe switch 3. Turn off quad (test GPS rescue while your quad is sitting in a field, not when it's flying lol) I'm shocked I've never run into a failsafe issue yet haha

Always wondered what that failsafe mode was for.

The key part for people is determining that instead of using Failsafe as a mode when setting that via aux channel, doing GPS RTH at the same switch setting for non-testing is correct (and ditto for Paralyze on team racing setups)

I have failsage on the same switch as arming, just on the other position. Not sure why, but I like the option to manually failsafe if i feel like it. I still have the failsafe setup on the rx and failsafe tab the normal way for rx loss.

I did this mistake once... Figured out with the OSD.

I had a curious thing happen with the fail safe but need to verify by trying it again to be sure. On my radio it would prompt "failsafe not set". Still I would fly for a couple of minutes and the drone would gradually lose motor thrust (over 3 seconds or so) and drop to the ground. But when I set it up on the radio "after much updating and switching out the radio micro SD card" it didn't do that....was quite nervous around trees to be sure but it didn't behave the same way....No? Yes?

Can you setup “get out of the frckn tree” on a aux channel? 🤪 I always do the props off power down the transmitter on the bench after a new build. I don’t use gps or stable mode and always wondered why that was a option.

Hi JB always very helpful I’ve set up all my switches like usual in mixer and inputs on my Tango 2 in the modes tab in betaflight the all highlight the yellow add range boxes on the left side when switched on Except GPS rescue ...right aid switch indicator moving but the box doesn’t turn yellow ... any idears 😊 Ok few days later I’ve tested RTH and it all works fine ...just doesn’t highlight yellow in the add range box in BF Just thought I’d let you know Thanks for all your help 😊👍

I've always set Failsafe on a switch or momentary button. I know I can just disarm, but I prefer to Failsafe if something goes wrong. I don't have ANY gps quads only freestyle and racing.

I have a frsky turanis. Bought the hall gimbals. Also saw a short throw racing hall gimbal for throttle that was for one of the other model FR sky radios. So long story short, I got it installed, only way it fit was upside down. So I looked everywhere trying to find out how to reverse the settings so throttle and yaw are reversed to correct the problem of having the physical gimbal installed upside down. No luck. Is there a setting to do this. I have since removed it but it would be cool to get it to work. Was thinking maybe I could reverse wires on the hall sensors to correct this but not sure if they work like that. Anyways input appreciated. You rock Mr.

Hi i have problem when switch i gps rescue mode on aux why is yellow highlight is not on ? Thats why i dont know if gps rescue is working or not ? I check gps sat is ok .but if i check on betaflight on mode is not yellow highlight even yellow bar at the top of yellow line.

I ran into an interesting scenario today. I had an AUX switch set for GPS Rescue and also had "set to active" value in the failsafe tab for GPS rescue. I also set an AUX switch for failsafe. After testing GPS rescue worked and then switching back to acro I proceeded to try the failsafe switch. It worked as intended but the trouble came when I went to switch it off. Since my GPS rescue was set to an "on" value, after I switched off Failsafe I was still in rescue mode. Not putting it all together in my head while flying and noticing I still didn't have control of the quad I tried to disarm and rearm from about 100ft up. That didn't work and I ended up crashing (no damage). I believe if I would have moved the GPS rescue switch through its positions I would have been able to then recover the quad. Is my assumption correct?

i do not see gps rescue in betaflight modes tab but i do see failsafe can i use that instead

I have a problem with my failsafe aux channel. When i am activating the failsafe aux switch, then my motors turns off. Thats good so far, but when i deactivate the failsafe aux switch, it wont let me arm the quad any more. I dont know what i can do. I have to unplug the batterie and replug it then it let me arm again. But i want to arm the quad directly after failsafe. What can i do?

I wonder what mode fail safe or rescue uses when lite up ? Can't you force fS to use angle mode only for say ?

turning you tx off to test gps rescue has so many problems. Watched my budy turn off tx gps rescue activated turns tx back on but the switches are out of starting position so he switches the switches to there home position tx powers up with the switch in the disarm position 😅 quad falls out of sky...

I use failsafe as an instant kill switch so I've got two different ways of disarming in the event of an emergency.

I tried Failsafe to test my GPS rescue, but since I was too close to home, it disarmed - this was expected. After disabling FS, it take between 30 seconds and a minute before I can re-arm the quad. Is this normal ?

If I try the GPS rescue mode via failsafe aux would it mean that gps rescue mode would automatically proceed without me flipping the switch of the gpsRM? and if so how do I regain control of the quad?, To what im familliar with is that you can manually flip gps rescue mode 100 meters away for sanity check to work. and then flip it gpsRM off to regain control. how about failsafe gpsRM? So question.. I got a new heli (OmpHobby M1evo) and this Radiomaster Zorro and I can't seem to figure out how to set aux switches. What I mean is, if we're talking FPV drones, we use Betaflight and under the "modes" tab, we can customize which "AUX" switch is say "arm-disarm" is and flight modes like "stability-acro." M1evo's Flight Controller can't connect to Betaflight, so how?? For example, i renamed channel 5 under the "mixes" tab to "hold," which doesn't really do much, because that's not telling the Heli's Flight controller that I want that channel to be Throttle Hold, or Idle UP, or whatever I want it to be.. Anyone know? ?

when the video is cut off, your radio remote is still connected and you can't see anything. Doesn't it make more sense to start gps recovery? so the gps device will bring you towards you and you will return to normal when the image comes

I changed from d16 to d8 on a frsky r-xsr and could not make it work Change it back to d16 and still does work even though the receiver is bound to the taranis , before any change everything was pefect, I tried with a new receiver and works ok, don’t know what happened, any idea?

I can think of two reasons to use a failsafe switch - recovering after getting your video stomped on (you mentioned this in your GPS rescue vid), and to safely recover from an actual failsafe. I am under the impression that if you have an honest-to-goodness failsafe, you want to put your receiver in failsafe mode so that you don't re-arm the instance you have re-connected, when your video might not be good, or whatever. By putting it into failsafe, the quad would continue to return home until you are prepared and make an affirmative action to regain control.

I hate screaming at these videos! Failsafe mode is Used a ton in racing. For team racing you can have multiple quads on the same video channel ready to go. They will all be in failsafe mode except one flying.
