In the Flesh is the debut novel by Mallorcan poet and playwright Carla Nyman. It follows the dark and hilarious escapades of a mother and daughter who murder the latter's boyfriend and decide to keep the body.
It’s a wild ride akin to an early Pedro Almodóvar film (think Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown) and is a delicious combination of comedy and horror, recounted through various voicemails and communications that the narrator leaves for the local judge in the hope that he will acquit them both of their crimes.
Translator bio
Beth Hickling-Moore is a translator, writer and teacher. She translates prose and poetry from Portuguese, Spanish and Italian into English.
Her work has recently been published or is upcoming in ‘Modern Poetry in Translation,’ ‘Circumference’ and ‘The Hooghly Review’ and she is a 2024 mentee for the PELTA emerging translator mentorship. Her debut novel in translation will be published in September 2024.
