She was a genius, without a doubt. Her face was better than beautiful (in say the Vivien Leigh mold) Else-wise, she'd never have been able to play SO many varied roles!

Listen, i'm a 19 year old guy and i think she is absolutely beautiful. She's glowing! I love how she looks on the Dick Cavett show too, with the beret and glasses.. She's spectacular :) "But y'ar Blanche! Y'ar in that chair!" - They don't make them like her anymore.

Kim Carnes sang a song in the early 1980's named "Bette Davis Eyes". I enjoyed listening to it, although I didn't know much about Bette Davis when I was in junior high. I certainly do now. She is a wonderful actress!

As Charlotte Vale said to Jerry's little girl in Now Voyager, when the child was heartbroken over being unwanted, unloved and filled with painful awareness that she was not very pretty, "You may not be beautiful in the way you wish to be, but if you develop your character by becoming interested in other people, you can have something ELSE -- something much BETTER -- something that will LAST. Those are not the exact words, but they carry the point. Bette, had the "something else."

@lorrainewands Nicely put. Your comment reminds me of something Jimmy Stewart said about It's A Wonderful Life which which was not a success when released but which, over the years, had become a holiday favorite. He said Capra would be touched to know that as he was so proud of the movie and was disappointed it was not a hit when released. Robert Osbourne, I think, chalked it up to WWII being over and a public intent on moving forward whereas this movie takes place in the past.

ladyvee7110 It's Cloris. Aside from being a very busy actress at the time, she had been one of the stars of a 1977 TV remake of Capra's "It's a Wonderful Life" called "It Happened One Christmas." So that is a tie-in between her and Mr. Capra.

You know, for an actress, Bette was never very good at speeches. Im surprised she looked at her notes so much and kept looking down. I would have thought she would have read it over so she could maintain eye contact! I thought she would have memorized it like a script...
