The immortal First Lady of the American Screen herself, Miss Bette Davis, headlines this crackerjack episode of General Electric Theater about an aspiring author who is determined not to let a high-minded professor crush her dreams..no matter to what lengths she must go to stop him.
Originally broadcast on March 10th, 1957, With Malice Toward One was written for television by Hagar Wilde from a story by Vivian Fletcher and helmed by Golden Age TV director Jules Bricken.
I was blessed by an eBay collector who provided me with this footage in 2006 and am forever thankful to be able to share it with my fellow Bette Davis fans! Please note, though, that the opening credits and Ronald Reagans G.E. Theater introduction were not featured on this tape. Although Miss Davis has indicated that she was less than full satisfied with this work, fans should relish yet another missing link in her vast catalogue of performances!
VIVA LA BETTE!

“But I’m a murderer....not a robber”. The patented Davis cackle. Priceless.

Betty Davis, Joan Crawford, Barbara Stanwyck, Doris Day, Rita, etc. Love these old movies and they don't have the technology we have today. I'll take and old movie anyday.

Him: " Would... $ 10,000 dollars please you? Her: Oh, immensely ...but I'm a murderer not a robber. " What a great line! ROTFWL!

It must have been such a treat to see these titans of Hollywood on the small screen back then. Bette played everything like it was top tier material and always gave it her all.

A brilliant ending. Bette Davis has more class and wit than many other actresses in every performance, even small parts such as this.

The story is a bit over the top, but Bette makes it work. I think the composer here had a little fun - when she tears the letter, he plays the theme from Davis’s great movie, ‘The Letter.’

Arrogant he was; at one point he was flirting with her thinking she would drool over his position. Probably though he would get a convenient lay during the seminar. She knocked him down several notches.

Among many other superlatives, I must say that Bette Davis was a hard worker. She said once that this is how she wanted to be remembered. "She did it the hard way." - Jack Warner

Daniel not sure about that one because it would seem odd how he sends a letter and then winds up dead and murdered at that. That's what makes the end of this so perfect because he's been fooled.
