You know, Better Midler, is unique beyond words. This song is brilliant. Her album brings out the song differently but the words you never forget. Never ! I have had them in my heart since the 70s. I enjoyed your reaction. Bette has so much range and variety with every song she takes you on a journey. I hope each of us travels far by listening to her subtle brilliance.

She could be a comedian....hey, she is a comedian, an actress (on stage and screen), a songwriter and performer, a dancer, an award winner, an all round star!

I've seen her in concert a couple times. She is quite an entertainer. This is the sort of thing she does in her shows. It's like she's having a conversation with you. She does such a great show.

This is definitely one of my favorite Bette songs. Never fails a evoke an emotion. Usually a tear.

No, Bette is NOT in character , This IS Bette Midler. She is totally direct, straight down the line, and doesn't mince her words !
@Monad012 жыл бұрын
He also said she was authentic, which contradicts him questioning if she is playing a character. I'm not criticising Nic, just an observation. I'm not saying a character cannot be authentic either, nuances and all that.

Bette is the ultimate storyteller, her monologues come from her heart she can touch you at every turn! Her interpretation of this brilliant John Prine song must have made him proud! RIP the great John Prine!🙏❤️☮️

This was her "Live at Last" concert, if you liked this then I HIGHLY recommend getting the DVD or video to experience the whole show. I finally got to see her in concert back in 94 or 95 and boy I tell ya, she doesn't just stand there singing, this woman is a true entertainer and can put on a show you won't forget.

11:20 "I forgot where I even was." That is probably the greatest compliment you could ever give an entertainer. To be so captivating and have you so utterly transfixed that everything else just melts away is a talent few performers have. Bette Midler is *definitely* one of those people. I had the privilege of seeing her on Broadway in her short run in Hello, Dolly! and it is the greatest theater experience I have ever had. I was so enthralled by her outstanding performance that my cousin finally had to hit me in the arm because she had been trying to tell me something for several minutes and I never heard a word. Bette is utterly unique and there will never be anyone else like her. I also saw her years ago on her Kiss my Brass tour and really does swear like a sailor. She is so bawdy, so beautiful, so funny, and so immensely talented. I absolutely love her.

I am so thrilled to see someone doing this piece from bette Midler. she is one of the greatest talents America has ever produced. this is a marvelous example of how wide ranging bette's talent just is. she can have you howling with laughter one moment, and crying full-on the next. brilliant. I loved seeing this again, I haven't seen it in years. this Cleveland concert of bette's from the early 1970's is magnificent. what a show! thanks for posting! I liked and subscribed.

She sponsored community gardens in NYC and beautified it everywhere. She won the Tony for Best Actress in Hello Dolly a few years ago! She plays all kinds of characters in her shows and her jokes are hysterically funny.

A friend of mine happened to be on the same overseas flight as Bette sometime during the early 80's and she spent most of the flight telling jokes and stories and bustling up and down the cabin talking to everyone who'd listen lol. Live At Last is the album to get to know if you want to hear all her talents 😊

The song was written by the late, great, country/folk singer John Prine. John's lyrics were consistently brilliant - in a few simple words, he could get to the heart of the matter and touch you in the process - a poet for everyman. Bette actually can sing, but that was not evident here and was not the point. Give Prine's version of Hello In There a react, and you will be touched even more. And for the fun side of John's lyrics, give a listen to the live version of In Spite of Ourselves, with Iris Dement.

The Rose by Bette was a fave of my nanna’s. I sang it to my nanna a day before she passed. I had to use an app to put in all my harms etc and have my dad play it for her, because I couldn’t go and see her personally because of Covid. I still find it hard to even listen to that song now.
