From the movie The Rose basically it was about Janis Joplin who was called the Rose. The ending after the song was heartbreaking

It's a lovely song, with lyrics I've come to appreciate more deeply as I grow older. Bette does a wonderful job of modulating her voice for expressiveness, not turning this into a bombastic power ballad as many other performers might have done. She lets the simplicity & sincerity of the music move us.

I'm not sure if anyone else has commented on Bette Midler's journey into success and her rise to stardom, but it started in the early 70s with Barry Manilow actually (before anyone knew who either of them were) Barry played the piano, while she sung. She was 'The Divine Ms. M.' back then, and later had back up singers called 'The Mermaids' (Katy Sagal, from 'Married With Children' was one of the Original 'Mermaids') and she played at small venues, venturing off off off Broadway shows. Her 'break out role' actually was the song you just re-acted to 'The Rose' from the movie 'The Rose' in 1979 and then her Critical Success in 1989, 'Beaches' which you re-acted to her song & probably most notable one, 'Wind Beneath Your Wings' which is a movie I recommend. Anyway, thank you for your thoughts and words on the songs you both re-act to. (as to negative or nasty comments, what other people think of you, is none of your business, but I understand why you addressed this... I personally wouldn't even give it any attention at all....but again, Thank You, from a fella in Boston.
