The eleventh episode of Better Call Saul's final season "Breaking Bad" continued Gene Takavic's story in Omaha, Nebraska. After getting bad news from Francesca about the situation in Albuquerque he made a poor choice and decided to try to contact Kim. We can't hear what they say to each other but he sets him on the path to using scamming to cope.
In Episode 11 Jeff's mother Marion who is played by the legendary actor Carol Burnett makes another appearance. Also, Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul reprise their roles as Walter White and Jesse Pinkman. They make their first appearance in Better Call Saul.
The biggest question now that we've reached the final four episodes is what will happen to Kim now that she's left Albuquerque.

Yep, spot on. Jimmy will always be "Slipping Jimmy" no matter how many times he tries to play it straight just like the Blue and power were for Waiter. I also wonder if they ever found Lalo and Howards' bodies in the floor of the lab? If Gene/Saul gets caught, will they ask him about it? Also wondering what Kim is doing now? Is she a lawyer working out of the plumbing place like Jimmy was working out of the nail salon? Does she still have the fish?

“But he made it clear he couldn't stay No harbor was his home” I think this lyric from Brandy is telling…”Gene” is about to lose the “safe harbor” of his “disappearance” by the vacuum guy because… I also think that the name “Gene” is Saul’s-I-mean-Jimmy’s name in Nebraska because being a criminal - well, really a a “Criminal lawyer”, aka, A Lawyer who is a criminal (thanks Jesse) - because it’s in his “genes”.

This episode told us that Gene is early stage Walt. He’s truly Breaking Bad now, in that his morality is being compromised. If what made Gene so angry on the phone call was that Kim was going to the authorities, then Gene now has a countdown on his life, just like Walt did with his cancer diagnosis. So he’s going to live his last few months really living and damn the consequences. Notice Gene now physically resembles early seasons Walt with moustache and glasses, and he even has a sidekick whose name sounds like Jesse.

I thought it was interesting that right before Gene entered the mark's home they showed the scene of Saul entering JP Wynne to enter into business with Walt. It seems to illustrate to me the suggestion that he is walking into a big mistake due to hubris, greed, or just the need for another score.

They’re really starting to shape this ending into a crazy one. The overall vibe is just dark, very reminiscent of the end of breaking bad. Even the most wholesome of things, are slipping into darkness. Marion for example, she looked genuinely bummed out when Saul just walked away to go out with Jeff and even more so after she saw the guys meeting in the garage. I don’t think Saul is going to be busted at the house he broke into immediately, that would be too easy. I think it’s all going to unravel very fast yes, but I think Marion will still play a role in sauls ending its no coincidence it showed her getting more suspicious.

That dog definitely left hair on the floor in all those houses. Gene will find the cancer guy dead or dying, and he’ll eventually get caught because cancer guy’s death will be investigated. The broken window, the barbiturates in his system…they’ll somehow link that dog hair to all the other houses and realize it was the same guys doing it. They catch Jeff because they remember him and the other guy at the bar, or maybe his buddy gets caught and gives them Jeff’s name. Jeffy tells his mom in lockup who Saul really is, and she shows off that nasty side of her we saw in her first cold open.

I highly disagree. The scenes were clearly painting that Saul was ALWAYS HEAVILY involved in his own demise. Fans always said it was Walt's fault, when in actuality Saul was always incredibly involved and pushing to do more. It shows he knew that Walt had potential, and that Saul was going to throw gas into the fire to make it bigger. Walt and Jesse NATURALLY feel like fanservice because it's been years, but honestly they're just a spice to showcase Saul's inevitable downfall after seeing they could be pitched to get him more money (giving further context to him hunting Walt's info down and tracking him to school)

Addiction was a big theme in BB in a larger sense (group of people addicted to Walt and Jessie’s meth) and this is seeing a different kind of addiction destroying one person’s life.

Jimmy asked her if they could try again now that he was never going back to being Saul and has a new identity. Kim gets angry at him because she has a new life with a new man and has moved on from being a lawyer. Jimmy was hoping to convince her to move to where he is and start over again with him as Gene. She refused and told him to take care and that she loves him but they are still bad for each other. After she hangs up, he completely loses it and busts the phone booth and becomes self destructive slipping Jimmy and wants to keep riding the high of scamming the system as a way of compensating for loosing literally everything that matters to him. But psychologically he is screaming inside to be caught by the police and taken back to Albuquerque, New Mexico where he will be again Saul Goodman and face prison. I think Kim will visit him one last time in prison and the end will be him in prison practicing law similar to Shawshank Redemption Andy Dufresne and accounting. Remember Walter White in Felina did what he loved till the end a similar ending with us panning away from Saul giving law advice to criminals what he loves. Gene is going to die that was why he was in the grave and Saul will live on as a crook in prison where he belongs. I think the moment Jimmy/Gene becomes Saul again after being in the custody of the police the image will go to color and the show will end with Saul Goodman persona in charge.

Great analysis as always, Pete. I think Marion is going to be pivotal. She not only was visibly hurt when Gene didn't join her for Schnapps, she looked very interested in seeing the other side of him (out the window) when he's yelling at his "partners" over not finishing the identify theft on the cancer patient. Jeff is her son and she doesn't want to see him going to prison. And the introduction to her (in the grocery store) made her seem very hard boiled indeed, no slouch. This is set up for disaster, but as you say, Gene two episodes to either figure something out or go down hard.

This is the biggest thing I got from this episode: we don’t know yet what Saul heard on that phone call, but we will find out, possibly next week. Whatever it was that he hears drove him to such a dark place that the thing he could do was go back to the “drug” of Slippin’ Jimmy/Saul Goodman/Viktor. He does not need money as he still has those diamonds in his box; he’s doing this to hide his pain. And much like he had with Walt after Mike’s warning, he could have backed down or gotten out of the game, but is so beyond saving that he could not resist breaking bad yet again.

@@felixgardner7265 Definitely possible. But I think he heard that she's in prison. Gene's conversation w/ Francesca where she mentions the shell company she gave up to the feds, coincidentally containing approximately half of what the Sandpiper settlement would be... He was very, very upset about that. Much more so than the other stuff she'd mentioned. I'm thinking maybe they could go back to the end of the Jimmy/Kim break-up scene and continue it. It felt, intentionally, unfinished. Unresolved. Jimmy could walk into the bedroom where Kim is packing, and they could either have a blowout argument. Or, I think more appropriate and likely, they have a civil break-up and Jimmy convinces Kim to take half of the Sandpiper settlement, to be set up in a shell company account named Tigerfish, to be able to stay afloat since she's no longer practicing law. And somehow, his new scam of drugging these marks and selling their personal identities for profit, is related to being in service of Kim. Getting her bail? Don't know. But like you said, these folks are good at surprising us. Best show in the history of television. Endless love for all things BCS.

What has occurred to me this episode is that Jimmy/Saul/Gene is a talented salesman, marketer and businessman - he has no need to con. His early grifting days could be chalked up to dumb youth and cheap thrills, then later on, righteous revenge on Chuck and Howard etc. Now we see with the cancer guy, the grey lines are gone: He’s simply a criminal. Gene could have had a home-based internet business, buying things off AliExpress and selling online, keeping a low profile. He could have been a freelance copywriter for sales ads. Instead, he chooses crime.

Okay, hör zu, Kim, wieso reden wir überhaupt darüber. Wir beide sind zu clever… English translation: (The beginning is inaudible…but it’s mid-sentence and he is already upset about what Kim must have said): “(…) you have no idea what I did or didn't do, okay? Why don't YOU turn yourself in, you don't have to be considerate of me, I can only be hanged ONCE. Okay, look, Kim, why are we even talking about this. We're both too smart...“

I’m never right. But I thought the call to Kim’s work led to him finding out she was being locked-up by Feds (guilty spouse?) and now Jimmy/Gene is collecting cash to bail her out. Like I say, I’m never right with these things

Excellent, excellent work Pete. Great review/ideas. One thing: You're convinced that the conversation he had in the phone booth, that we weren't privy to, was with Kim because of Gene's explosive reaction. I'm not so sure he was speaking w/ Kim (but, of course, it's a possibility...), and I can think of another reason he'd have have such a huge reaction to whatever that conversation's substance was. The scene was very reminiscent to me of another classic phone booth conversation scene from a film of which I see many (or at least a couple/few) parallels to BCS. I will be re-watching last night's episode tonight, and will in particular be looking at the phone both conversation scene very intently. Rock on...

Did anyone else think that the way Marion got up from bed to look out the window towards the end was telling? She seemed suspicious/ concerned about what was going on with Jeffie & Gene. Maybe she’s the one who alerts the police regarding the teaser of next weeks episode?

The way BCS elevates BB and vice versa is incredible to watch. Its been long enough since BB it almost feels like its Sauls show. Well this IS Sauls show but its just so amazing to watch these characters grow

Been waiting patiently on your breakdown as usual and you didn't disappoint. I thought the rage in the phone box came from Gene not being able to get hold of Kim...but it's now clear that he did. As you say hopefully we'll see her in next week's episode, I have no clue how this is gonna end and I'm happy with that.

It is not at all clear that he did, not even close. He may have been told she does not want to talk to him, he may have been told she is no longer there or even dead. He may have but that does not change the fact salespeople love seeing people like you.

Hey, Pete, I'm surprised you didn't talk about Marion's obviously pained and prolonged reaction to Gene roughly demanding that Jeff take his drink outside and leave Marion indoors. It seemed like it's setting up to have her become pivotal in the climax. What do you think? 🤔

The more and more Im becoming a fan of this breakdowns as the show continues to unfold to us, and I love how much you understand what the writers intentions really are.. Only thing I was specting more is your opinion about Marion watching Gene and Jeff discusing in the middle of the night and how can She be an important role going into the finale.. I need to rewatch the episode, but the superficial feeling that I got was that Gene would forget about Saul and be Jimmy again going after a possible reencounter with Kim.. PS. According to Wikipedia (as of right now while I type this), the title of the next episode is "Waterworks." Given how much they employ double-meanings, I wouldn't be surprised if they did show Kim working at a sprinkler shop in Florida, coupled with a highly emotional moment that might start the 'waterworks.' If this is the case, I hope it will also answer how Jimmy/Saul/Gene knew she was there.
