You can do both on a smaller budget if you're savvy and can get to card shows or have a good LCS near you. Trolling the quarter, fifty cent, dollar bins can net you some really nice cards. When I was younger, I would spend hours at my LCS going through their dime bins. Maybe I didn't make tons off of it, but I would go to trade nights with some decent cards and trade bulk for a few better cards. Do that a few times and eventually traded up for, what was for me at the time, a SERIOUS card. 1989 Upper Deck Griffey (still a triple digit card and would have been too big a purchase for my 13 year old self) I was in maybe $5 in dime bin cards in total for what became my Griffey Rookie.

@snerdterguson I go to one bank, I get a $25 box of pennies, search it for errors or pennies that are in perfect condition, if I only find 5 in a box, I replace that 5 cents with 5 cents from my pocket, take the rest of the box to bank 2, cash them in and go back to bank 1 and get another box. Some pennies get sold anywhere from $250 to $40,000 depending on what you find. And you just keep recycling the pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, etc. If you never thought pocket coins could be worth so much, just look up the words MONDAY MARKET REPORT on youtube and watch one of those videos. Ill bet you may consider doing coins as well. Hahahahaa

Better off opening Robinhood account. Even start with $1. Nike stock if want to still invest in sports. VUG fund (growth stocks) if younger. Dollar cost average for intermediate or long term.

When I worked in a grocery store as a teenager, all the cashiers went in on a full pack of scratch off tickets and I think everyone lost $5😂

There's a great bit by Norm Macdonald about giving lotto tix as a gift and how it's the worst possible gift. Here's your present...nothing. Or even worse, they win some enormous windfall and your life is filled with regret from that day forward lol

I give around $10-$20 in scratchoffs (never play myself unless likewise gifted). Less impersonal than cash, thought that counts, while total if any bonus for recipient.

I've done some extensive study on scratch-offs. The best ones will return 80-85%. That is after accounting for all outstanding tickets. Typically, that means like 60% of all tickets have been sold, but only, for example, 1 in 5 top prizes have been claimed. The worse returns are around 50%. This is true for at least TX/CT

No longer put the dollar amount in bar card. Must scan the ticket. Also odds of tickets are on the back. Better odds if you buy 4-5 tickets in a row.

I've hit $5,000 from a $30 scratcher, I've never come close to pulling a $5,000 card out of a blaster.

Jabs as a PA resident I know for a fact that a book of tix is expected to have around 30% return. So you hit big that means how many books have less then 30% Also every tix is a winner....either you win or the state wins

Loved this lottery ticket/baseball card vid for a nice change-up(like the baseball pun? lol)! Your scratching technique is obviously that of a rookie (lol!), but it did get progressively better as you went through all the ticks! Practice makes perfect!

On most scratch offs, if it's a winner it will spell out the amount with single letters through our the ticket speed out, like a $10 winner would a (t) (e) (n) through our the Numbers somewhere

Well, if we learned anything from this video, it is that no one should buy lottery tickets or boxes, because you will 80% of the time never get your money back. This was a great example because you never received your money back once in this video.

With cards, you always, ALWAYS, get at least a small return. It may be a miniscule percentage of your cost, but if you get a bum auto, it still sells for a buck. You get a bunch of commons and you could mark it at a buck as a starter set. With scratch offs, you run the risk of a total L. Also, you usually, in boxes with more than a few cards, get some cards of guys on your team. You get a star player you're a fan of. There's still the fun and pure collecting aspect. I'm always pumped to pull a Yankee. Even just a common. I put then all aside and add them to my Yankees PC.

Face value on “winning”lottery tickets is guaranteed with sports cards you are lucky if you get half value on a single card..and if you can even sell it!

Love Paulie. Unquestionably my favorite Yankee I watched who started somewhere else. For anyone not around back then, the Yankees had probably the most absurdly clutch lineup in history. After the leadoff there was Jeter, O'Neill and Bernie Williams. And of the 3, Paul was the best pure hitter. And a great athlete, going 20/20 in his final year. He is the walking definition of Hall of Great, not Hall of Fame. The Warrior!!!

One Christmas I was getting off work at 6am and heading home and realized I didn't get my wife any stocking stuffers. I stopped by a gas station and bought her favorite candy and $50 in various $5 and $10 tickets. She hit a $500 ticket. Made our Christmas a little nicer that year.

The return odds if you bought all $1 tickets would have yielded a floor on expected return. Any gives lottery tickets returns 1 out of 3 times a winner (amount may be minimum.

The best way to win on the lottery tix is buy in 4s most of the Scratches are 1:4 some less I did the bouncing around with multiple different tix and getting smoked then I switched to the 4s and constantly win , good luck Jabs and keep up the great videos

When I turned 50, my employer had $50 worth of scratch off lottery tickets inside the birthday card. One ticket cost $20 and the other $30. I won $500 on the $20 ticket and nothing on the $30 ticket. That is by far the most I have ever won on a lottery ticket. I almost never play.

The odds for scratchers are better if you buy a few of the same ticket. Cards you need to spend money and time to sell. I like cards more but would rather have tickets

I get lottery tickets as tips sometimes I suspect that it's possible to scan whether they're winners without scratching them because none of those have ever gotten even a dollar. On the other hand I want to say at least 50% of the tickets I buy yield something, although very commonly not as much as they cost. But something. Watching you go through without getting even a cent back makes me wonder if you got scammed. If I was designing them I would make it actually very rare for you to get nothing at all on a piece of cardboard you paid 50 bucks for. Seems like it would be way better for business if you would get something, like maybe 10 bucks. Then you could feel like you won something and it was worth buying them, and I'm still $40 ahead

I think this premise was pretty cool. Not big on lottery tickets though. You should take the scratched tickets to the store to have cashier double check em through the scanner just in case you missed a winner.

@JabsFamily it's kind of funny that I'm assuming your from Pitts burgh where I've been numerous times. Once for a game in three rivers. I'm really no fan of a baseball team. I'm from Wisconsin. But I've watched a lot of baseball. More from my past than anything but I'm a steeler fan. I have tattoos and I have many photos where one of them is my mom kissing Franco Harris. My parents use to go to the training field every year. So I'm assuming also your a steeler fan? Lol a lot history in three rivers for baseball and football alike.

Both of them are luck of the draw unless your buying them with the odds in mind. All lottery tickets come with odds of 1:X number of tickets. Same as hits in baseball cards. If you go and buy 5 tickets where the odds are 1:4.5 then your probably gonna win something.

You definitely had some terrible luck with those lottery tickets! I get a few ever so often and overall usually get my money back or slight lose over a period of time. I did get lucky a few times and make about $60 profit over about $100 of tickets, but I've never gotten zero like that. Usually the more expensive tickets ($30+) are better of at least getting you most of your money back if you don't hit something good.

I've been getting scratchers since 1993 and the most i've ever won on a single scratcher is 20 bucks. Every other one i've ever gotten has been either a dud, a "free ticket" winner or i win back the price of the ticket.

Great video. Nice twist. Excellent way to change things up. Not every ticket is a winner, just like not every box will yield a golden ticket.
