@@aidanfriedfeld8889 Honestly at $2000 the Gibson AJ sig. LP standard silverburst wasn't a bad deal. It had the wrong pickups and a mix of custom and standard specs. Looking back now after all the price hikes, it seems decent. I'm very content with my Epiphone version with Frank Frazetta "The Berserker" custom art. I swapped in a Tusq XL nut with the proper string spacing, Gotoh keystone tuners and the EMG 81/85 ZW set. I wouldn't sell it for less than 2k.

IMO, a signature guitar is different than a tribute to a specific iconic guitar from an artist's past. If Kirk ordered one of these today perhaps he wouldn't get one with EMG's but if Gibson is going to label this as a Hammett "1989" signature then it should be authentic to that guitar. Why bother aging it if they're going to ignore other characteristics? Personally, I'm not a Hammett or EMG fan... far from it, but I'd be disappointed if I were. And then there's the price... basically upwards of $10k after tax for what, exactly?

I know. It's clearly just meant to be an overpriced decoration, so why not have it be accurate to the looks? It also strikes me how, yes, a lot of guitars are valuable for good reason, but imagine trying to resell a signature/replica that's not even accurate to the original. Something like this is only valuable because people agree it's "like the actual guitar", but like... it isn't lol

Love you trogly but, just my two cents, I don't think it's drama that people are vexed by this signature. I think It feels like Gibson is trying to push a Gibson collectable and not a Kirk Hammett collectable. I think that if I was a big enough KH fan and wanted to buy a replica of one of his guitars, I would want it to be exactly the way that it is in the videos and pictures that made me love it. I would feel ripped off if I shelled out 8k to get a guitar that has the wrong pickups and the wrong logo. Imo Gibson really needs to reevaluate their current priorities.

When you turned up the Piezo output and played:"Fade to Black", I thought it was just about perfect. And, I'm not even a Metallica fan. I have covered that tune in one or two bands. As of January 2024, I have recently played a Godin (belonging to a joint member of the band I presently play with) that includes a Piezo output (with full EQ) and the standard magnetic pickups- plus a synthesizer interface that I imagine works brilliantly but that I'm unlikely to utilize. I've enjoyed layering the acoustic output with the traditional one.

There are people on reverb and ebay trying to get upwards of $4000.00 for a set, lol. They’re entirely serving the collectors base, people like Trogly that collect everything they can, fawn over them like these things are their actual children and more often than not can’t really play but for damn sure don’t get out and gig the things. It’s why new bands play Fender or smaller brands over Gibson 5 to one, Gibsons aren’t priced for working musicians and they don’t care, they’d rather milk the diehards for $1000 “collectible” pickups with a fucking case than make a good playing, reasonably priced guitar. Salutations Austin! Nice Signature Les Paul Custom, I would rather it not have the Murphy Lab treatment, just brand new condition would be my preference, however, I do like the addition of the Fishman bridge with the built in pickup, but I might have been wired differently, such as a stereo Les Paul is, except with the piezoelectric pickup on it’s own separate output. In the case, it might be a good idea to use a magnetic latch to keep the storage compartment secure, so the contents don’t fall out all over the interior of the case, and potentially scratching the guitar. The pickups could easily be swapped out for those who want a different sound option. I think Gibson should offer a more affordable version of this guitar, without the Murphy Lab treatment, for working musicians, and also an Epiphone version for those on a smaller budget too. It sounds pretty good, as is, and I would not be surprised if a lot of musicians would like a Les Paul Custom such as one of these. Thanks for sharing this with us all! Gibson has NO reason to do better QC (they are going for the older look and crap QC makes it look played in, right? 😂) besides most are buying these to put on a wall, not play so why bother? Ok....done being sarcastic. Seriously, the story Trog told the other day about the shop lowering the price on a lefty LP that just WON'T sell is what people should do...stop paying the idiotic prices and the prices will stop being idiotic. This simply will NOT happen any time soon and again, Gibson has no reason to lower until we give them one. Until then, enjoy the LTD, S by Solar, Harley Benton, and other brands that are built well, play well, and are beautiful...they just don't have that name on em. I'm not bashing in any way either, I would buy Gibsons in a heartbeat if I could....truth hurts.

I really don't understand custom shop aging that isn't correct or believable. Paying a shit load of money for a 'relic', imo you should expect that it's done with extreme attention to detail, otherwise you may as well just throw some bricks at it and age it yourself. That also extends to the guitar.. as a custom shop model saying it's 'based' on a certain guitar, but then being so wildly out of spec with that model is just weird and makes it seem like a moneygrab

So I just noticed in the B roll footage, that the $50K Greeny's frets are between the binding. Anyone know if the real Greeny still has its original frets, or if someone extremely skilled has refretted it? I couldn't imagine a guitar that's been played as much as that one still having the frets it left the factory with.

It's one thing asking silly money for a really old guitar, that's like 'fair enough, I get it' but you can get a used LPC from the late 80's for a couple of Grand. Crazy that you'd devalue your guitar by sticking a Piezo in it yourself but when Gibson do it the opposite is true lol

@3:20 I think this is the biggest sticking point for me - Wino and this Kirk Custom are both "reissues" of guitars where actual original models are half the price. Surely anyone who wants the real thing will go and buy the real thing, so this just feels like a fairly transparent way to get money out of collectors who Gibson know will buy everything they release.
