It was originally written by Stevie for Jeff for Jef playing on Stevie's Talking Book. "How did it end up on Stevie's record Talking Book rather than on Beck, Bogert and Appice? First, Jeff Beck's record was delayed for a variety of reasons. Second, when Stevie's bosses at Motown heard this song, they knew it would be a smash and made Stevie put it on his record"

Maybe a bit of a collab Jeff Beck and Stevie were hanging out together in 1972, and Stevie was supposed to write him a few songs. Ironically, it was Jeff Beck's drumming -- not his guitar playing -- that inspired Stevie to pen "Superstition." Here's Jeff Beck quoted in an Ultimate Classic Rock article: “One day I was sitting at the drum kit, which I love to play when nobody’s around, doing this beat. Stevie came kinda boogieing into the studio: ‘Don’t stop.’ ‘Ah, c’mon, Stevie,’ I can’t play the drums.’ Then the lick came out: ‘Superstition.’ That was my song, in return for playing on Talking Book. I thought, ‘He’s given me the riff of the century.'”

All true. There is a video on here with Stevie telling that story as well. There is also a video here with Stevie and Jeff playing it together ;) .

It was written by Stevie Wonder for Jeff Beck. However they had a fall out because Stevie was forced to release it first!

This kind of music was my occasional escape from my parents love of country music. Such nostalgia. So much potato~

If you look carefully you can see that the video and audio are from two different live performances. The original audio from the video is not that good so this mashup gives a much better listening experience while still giving an idea of what their live performances looked like. I think the video maker did a great sync job given the source material. In my opinion the live version is much better than the studio version. It has way more energy and this song deserves that.

@@markabusireactions easy to miss in a video that blurry and screwed up. Somebody left that magnetic tape on top of a big speaker or something else with a big magnet in it... for like 30 years.

The song "So We've Ended as Lovers" is another that Stevie wrote for Beck. And it's awesome. Check out the live version at Ronnie Scotts with a 16 year old Tal Wilkenfeld on bass. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ot1omaWDxL7NgKc.html

"Jam session" you say? Yeah, I'm pretty sure Beck improvised his part entirely on this track. I mean, he's playing the line much of the time... but any time he's off of that line... he's just making that stuff up as he goes 100%. Stevie's version or this one? That's like asking if I prefer Pizza or Steak better. The answer is if you try to take either of them away from me, I'll strangle you.

Great suggestion, but Tal was 20 (days before her 21st) when 'Live at Ronnie Scott's' was recorded.

This was great. I agree, even Stevie could _see_ this version is better.
