Excellent lesson! I agree with Jason and I usually skip tutorials where I cannot hear the tune within the first seconds. But in that case, your cover video did the thing right.

He's right. Learning to just strum with new chords takes time for beginners. But now that j know all of those chords from other song, I can easily switch to them without thinking. Instead focusing on the bass and strumming.

Yes frustrating they make it look easy but when I try it’s hard. I’m doing better but it really seems so tedious. But we CAN DO IT!!

@@Ausfaq 5 years late but you could play an Fadd9 which is like this: e: 3 B: 1 G: 2 D: 3 A: x E: 1 (use thumb instead of baring) Hope that helps

My F9 sounds so weird like it doesn't go with it. But when you play it it sounds good. I double checked to see if i have everything placed properly and i do. I checked my tuning to make sure but it just sounds off

In the song i can hear him alternating the bass notes way more. Or rather, the second bass note is more articulated on the down strums on the beats after the first beat, especially beat 3. I am unable to replicate that with this technique. Maybe i am missing something, but i dont think that is exactly how Elliott strums it, but i have been unable to figure out what he does. Nonetheless, great tutorial.

Yeah, that's a hard one. It's not the end of the world if you just play a normal G# (the E-shaped bar chord) :)

You are not crazy :) But I think this has to do with the guitar tuning... Elliott usually tuned all strings down a whole step - so when he plays an Am shape, it is actually the notes of a Gm (so if you are in standard tuning the 3rd fret of the e is right). If you watch a video of him playing it live you can see that Am shape. Then to further confuse things I decided to do the lesson in standard tuning, but with the hand shapes of Am. I chose to do that because I assume most people will not be tuned down a whole step, and they can tune down after they learn this if they want. And if someone is already tuned down a whole step they can just slap a capo on the 2nd fret and follow along for the lesson. Sorry for the confusion!
