I love how BTBAM can fuck around like this and STILL make albums that are incredible. The best.

I've listened to it nonstop since Friday night, and after about 7 listens I really confidently believe this album will be looked back upon as one of the most important releases for the progressive metal genre. This is the definitive BTBAM masterpiece.

i love how tommy can still joke around but takes the music so seriously. i think he's what ties the concept albums together for them. "that's actually the end of the story..." like they didn't even know. he has it all mapped out in his head. holding the knife for "delivery" akin to an actor...that's part of the reason everything is so cinematic. the instrumentation has always been larger than life to me, but tommy is so versatile and thoughtful. this SHOULD be the definition of a "supergroup."

That sweet keyboard solo and Paul's 'impossible sound' from the other video totally should have been added in the final album. Trust me, most of us want even more completely weird shit in there.

I've had this album for a couple days now, and I must say, this is their best album yet. It blows away colors. The lyrics are genius, and the structure of the songs (and the album itself) is simply amazing. I will be buying the album on release day to show my support! Thank you BTBAM for being awesome :)

and to clarify, the instrumentation is what really made me love this band. but seeing tommy in the studio after hearing this album gave me even more of a respect for what he does. i mean, fuck, i always knew he was a brilliant vocalist and musician. but i couldn't help but approach these albums like him if i were in the studio with this band. their videos are so funny and cavalier; i guess its just nice to see someone in the band express how important the music is to them. certainly is to me.

Dat Miraphone. Also, ever since Ihsahn released "After", a lot of metal bands have been using saxophones in songs. The Faceless, Devin Townsend Project, Between the Buried and Me.... As a saxophone player and a metalhead.... I'm stoked. THANK YOU IHSAHN!

It definitely takes a few listens to digest, but I think it might be their best album to date. Thing about Colors is that it is more "colorful" I guess. You get lots of different sounding songs but I guess that is to be expected since it isn't a concept album like this. These songs are all supposed to tie into each other which I guess is why they don't sound as different as going from Informal Gluttony to Sun of Nothing.

Well, it's a dynamic but it's not always as simple as one being better than the other. Like the other guy said, it's an SM7 (not to be confused with an SM57), which has been used on a lot of records... Sometimes it works, and sometimes the condenser is way better, it depends on the song and the vocalist. Bottom line, use your ears and try things, and don't ever go by what you think you "should" use!

Anyone know what mics he are using in the booth? For the heavy vocals, it looks like a Shure SM7B for the extreme vocals. I think he might be using some kind of MXL for the clean vocals.
@chuckyLarmed12 жыл бұрын
Shure SM7B. It's practically an industry standard for screamed vocals now :)

In fact it's not even that subtle. It doesn't really sound like a sax at first though because its basically the high squeal sound that they use in some of Trioscapes songs.
