Beverly Glenn-Copeland moved from Philadelphia to Canada in 1961 to study at McGill University. Trained as a vocalist, he released a self-titled debut album in 1970, now a collector's favorite, before earning a spot as a regular contributor on children's TV show Mr. Dressup. Over 40 years Copeland remained dedicated to forward movement, writing plays, composing soundtracks and writing music that channels and celebrates the varied cultural influences of his own background. His 1984 self-released electronic album Keyboard Fantasies was reissued in 2016, its visionary approach resonating with the ears of a new generation.
The Red Bull Music Academy is a global music institution committed to fostering creativity in music. We celebrate music, its culture, and the transformative minds behind it. Begun in 1998, the Academy has taken the core principles that underlie its annual workshop for selected participants and applied this curatorial approach to events, lectures, and city-wide festivals throughout the year.

Dear Glenn, We met in Huntsville some years ago.. When my daughter and I left your home I hugged you, and said I was afraid I would never see you again ,but you reassured me otherwise. My opera singer daughter, Suzanne Kilgore was with me, and while talking all together in your living room, I noted the similarity in the two of you, your mutual animation and enthusiasm. I said that it was as though you had emerged from the same womb. My daughter has passed. I cannot believe or accept that, but I wanted you to know. Primal Prayer will always be my most treasured cd. I am so glad that Suzanne was able to meet you. It will remain a highlight of our time together. My closest friend called me several days ago to tell me that her husband had been listening to this incredible voice, - turned out it was YOU!!!! I had given her ( years ago) your Primal Prayer album, so she was very excited to find her husband - who has a Paul Robeson-esque voice- listening intently to you - I think it was a radio program. This in New Hampshire!! With eternal adoration, Cathy Flear, Beeton Ontario (former Don Heights member - where you performed, and entranced us all.)

Write what you want to write and not what society seems to want you to. Hallelujah, dear Universe and Amen to that.

Greetings Beverly, such pure joy to absorb your state of being...albeit recorded. I looped back to when you played for our dance classes at Pavlynchenko Dance Studio in the 1970. You inspire me-having received $9,930- your value does not depend on you being paid. If you don't know your worth the world will always pay you less. One Love

It's so nice to hear about an African American life not stymied or totally polluted by Jim Crow laws or other sufferings of the 50s era. Thanks for this. Embrace life.

I am so happy, but kind of embarrassed at the same time, learning just today about Beverly through a friend. Love on the first sight! Now going on the wild ride to discover his work. Already hooked by the songs I listened too. What an inspiration!

Brilliant talk. But such a shame the music wasn’t included. Was there no way to obtain the rights?

How she s'pose to say my generation ain't it? It sounded cute and funny, but we're the hip hop generation. We breathed life back into her generation. She literally wouldn't be doing this very interview if it weren't for our contributions.

Ummmm you missed the point. He's talking about the state of the world. Not music. I'm gen X too and yeah... no we aren't the generation to change the world. Granted, our generation has had some bass ackwards upbringing from the Boomers. The result of that is that we've been very materialistic, misogynist, sexist, selfish, prideful, homophobic, religious and disconnected from authenticity because of what somebody else's impression of us.
