Believe it or not. This movie was the highest grossing film of 1984. It beat out Ghostbusters, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Gremlins and The Karate Kid. That's how insane Eddie Murphy's star power was at the time. Also, I can't wait for you guys to react to "Beverly Hills Cop II". It's a great sequel.

Eddie Murphy was a super star back in the day, I still rank Delirious as one of the greatest stand up comedy performance of all time. I’ve never seen any comic drip with as much charisma as he did that night.

BHC is the epitome of the 80's small budget movie. Comedy, good plot, decent action and actors that don't take their lines so seriously, Music was on point and the entire time keep you wanting more.

Inspector Todd was played by Gil Hill, who was a real life police inspector in Detroit. Billy Rosewood was played by Judge Reinhold, who was also in Fast Times at Ridgemont High and The Santa Clause.

2 years before this, Eddie starred with Nick Nolte in 48 Hours, but I think this is the movie he's most known for. The soundtrack is terrific. And like a true 80s movie, it's rated R, but they never waste time with a cheap romance between Axel and Jinny Summers. They're just close friends. I appreciate a movie like this, with Eddie clearly playing a horny young guy, that doesn't get bogged down with a shoehorned romance that wouldn't have made sense for the characters or the plot. This was a movie initially made for Sylvester Stallone, but he wasn't comfortable with some of the humour, so they took the structure of the film and made Cobra for him, giving the role of Axel Foley to Eddie Murphy.

This film was so huge at the time. The theme song was everywhere.

The soundtrack to "Beverly Hills Cop" is absolutely fierce. The song in the beginning with the police chase scene was "Neutron Dance" by the Pointer Sisters (one of my favorite songs) and the song playing in the beginning of the film was "The Heat Is On" by the late Glen Frey from The Eagles. Then there is "Axel F" which is the instrumental theme that was played throughout the film. Eddie Murphy's supervisor Inspector Todd was played by Gil Hill who was a police officer in real life. I hope you guys watch the sequel "Beverly Hills Cop 2" from 1987 which is actually quite good.

48 Hours put Eddie Murphy on the map… Beverly Hills Cop made him into full blown movie star! Funny moment - the scene where he walks by the guys on the street, laughing at their outfits… it is exactly what Eddie was wearing in his concert film Delirious….

I saw this movie in the theater when it came out. The entire audience laughed all the way through the movie.

Eddie Murphy, Stallone and Schwarzenegger pretty much owned the 80's, it's primarily where all three made their names, other than Stallone who started a little earlier with Rocky. It's hard to go wrong with any of Murphy's 80's flicks, they're all good. Trading Places and BHC you've both now seen. Look into his other flicks from that decade, the guy was that good. Check out BHC part 2 when you get a chance, nearly as good as the first one. Fun reaction as always you two.

Fun fact, Insp Todd was an actual Detroit police officer, Insp Gil Hill in charge of homicide. He was offered more roles after, but declined and the Beverly Hills movies are the only ones he was ever in. Another great reaction!

Here is a fun fact about Beverly Hills Cop 🙂The lead role was meant for Sylvester Stallone but Eddie Murphy ended up getting it because Stallone wanted to change too many things in his rewrite of the film. Sylvester Stallone ended up making the rewrite into a movie called Cobra! The difference between Beverly Hills Cop and Cobra is enormous, there is no way that anyone can guess that it is a rewrite without reading about it.

The “Rolling Stone reporter” scam he pulled to get a cheap room in the Beverly Palm Hotel always has me in hysterics, no matter how many times I watch it ✋️😂. The humour in this movie NEVER gets old, especially with “Serge”, the worker at the art studio 👍😁

Couple of cool notes: the scene with Axl and Serge was all improvised. The guy playing Axl’s boss was an actual cop. You should also check out Midnight Run by the same director, one of my favorites from the 80s. Hilarious.

This movie is such a classic! Every line delivered by Murphy was just chef's kiss great! It was the perfect vehicle for his quick-on-your-feet comedy! Beverly Hills Cop II is pretty good, too!

One of the funniest action comedy movies ever made! Originally, Sylvester Stallone was going to star and write the script for the movie, as his version of Beverly Hills Cop was more darker, violent, and action packed, lacking the humor. When Paramount executives read the script, it was immediately rejected and Stallone turned his unproduced version into the 1986 thriller COBRA.

Gil hill was literally a Detroit police officer when this film was made and Eddie Murphy. An absolute Genius of an actor. This is possibly his #1 movie ever in his career

I was in grade school when this movie made it to cable. My mother couldn't stand me watching it because of all the vulgarity. Funny enough though, the thing that made me laugh the hardest wasn't vulgar, at all. Rather, it was when Axel mimicked the other cop saying, "We're not going to fall for the banana in the tailpipe."

I remember seeing this at the theater for the first time. The opening police chase is one of the best car/truck chase scenes in movie history, IMO. The scene in the car between Billy and Taggert about the red meat was improvised by the two actors during their screen test when they were trying to find the best duo. The thinking was that a partnership between cops is not much different than an old married couple.

BHC is the perfect mix of action and comedy. A HUGE hit when it came out and is still loved today. The 2nd one is almost as good too.

Eddie Murphy started his comedy on Long Island and did quite a few gigs the same time as Jerry Seinfeld (same clubs, same night) back in 1978. In 1982 he was hired to bring SNL back to life after they lost their original cast from the first 5-6 years. He also release comedy ALBUMS, called Delirious in 1982, Comedian in 1983, and RAW in 1988. He started in movies in 1982 and became the biggest box office male for the 80s. He had an incident with a transvestite prostitute in the early 90s and went away, came back as a kids movie actor.

This one is right up there among my top Eddie Murphy films.

I was eleven when this came out, and it's been one of my favourite movies ever since. Hilarious comedy, great action, and a classic 80's soundtrack (especially Axel F by Harold Faltermeyer, which was my favourite tune for months afterward). This is one of my grandmothers favorite movies. And what I find so ironic, she loves Eddie Murphy for his movie, thinks he's wholesome, adorable and funny, but she's never seen his stand-up. 😂😂

In case y'all didn't know, the scene with Eddie walking down the street and he passes by the 2 guys and laughs at them, those 2 guys were dressed in Micheal Jackson's red and black outfits from his THRILLER VIDEO, except Michael didn't wear the matching leather pants in that video. In reality those 2 guys were actually friends of Eddie Murphy's and he was actually surprised to see them in this movie that's why he laughed at them.

The price of the Beverly Hills Hotel is currently about $250.00 a night for a single room. A suite can be as much as $2500.00. This movie followed Edde Murphy's debut in the movie 48 HOURS. You guys really need to look at that movie. His successful career was launched on Saturday Night Live a few years earlier and included a comedy concert film called DELIRIOUS. Sometimes, you guys are as funny as Eddie. Like when Asia starts fussing at BJ about something random. I did notice that BJ NEVER, NEVER, fussed at her. But that's the way love goes. Enjoy

Great reaction! One of my favorites from back in the day. Another unforgettable role by Murphy is in a shamefully underrated movie called Bowfinger (1999). Steve Martin plays an aging, never made it film director trying to scam his way into a major movie deal. And Eddie has a great dual role as two brothers: one is an over the top Action movie star, and the other is a nerdy, socially awkward nobody who isn’t close to his brother. Eddie is perfect and completely opposite in both roles. It’s a crazy story with a great cast that was largely neglected, as sometimes happens. It would make a great reaction.

BHC is such a classic, glad you added it to your channel. The sequels are also good too. The killing of Michael Tandino was so dark. For an action comedy, that scene was very raw and realistic and really bothered me when I was younger. I was not expecting such an brutal death that was just so unflinching in it's execution. Honestly though, it really set the tone for Axel's motivation and it's such a great film. Great reaction!!
