Had a guy in Maryland selling stuff on EBay he didn't actually have, like candles and Disney world tickets. He collected over 60 thousand dollars over an 11-month period. eBay won't do anything. they most probably still get revenue from it. The number of times I have pointed out campervans that are just fraud in the UK and tried to have them removed so potential buyers are not fooled, but days later still seeing them for sale is ridiculous. Seems eBay puts all the onus of these illegal activities down to seller beware and buyer beware...eBay won't have anything to do with it.

I live in England and had a sale, posted it through Royal Mail and if I remember right because of the cost it sent it recorded delivery which basically means it’s tracked and signed for, anyway a while after it was delivered and I mean weeks I had a message from the buyer saying they hadn’t receive the item. Luckily Royal Mail sent me a picture of the delivery card with date time and signature. I sent the picture to the buyer never heard a thing after.

Sellers can get it too by purchasers claiming they never got the item or that it arrived broken. One lady bought a pair of Danish Christmas angels for her collections. So just by coincidence, the one she originally didn't want arrives broken so I have to refund her her money. How do we know she didn't break the one she already has to get her remaining item for free?

One of the worst things that can happen is when an item is shipped USPS Priority Mail and the tracking number says the item is delivered but the buyer never got it. It’s USPS fault, but it’s rare they take responsibility even though they scanned it then put it in someone else’s mailbox. This happened to me as a buyer and a seller. The seller had refund me because as buyer PayPal sided with me because the seller through out the tracking number and couldn’t prove delivery, and as seller I won the claim because my receipt showed the package was delivered, I felt bad though because I know these things do happen, and buyer or seller is left no item or their money back.

I agree, the USPS is horrible and they can pretty much get away with anything with impunity because there is little to no accountability. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/i9OlYKuZ25zVgHU.html I, and many others, can personally attest to how horrible the USPS is. The most we can do is complain about it here but there is little more that we can actually do about it because they own your mailbox and only they can deliver mail to your mailbox.

I (a US buyer) bought an item from a US seller. The seller squeezed a shirt into a tiny package with the wrapping tight all around the item. In opening the package I inadvertently cut the garment. It's VERY easily done when sellers package items this way. Since then, I don't use scissors to open any package. I tear them open with my fingers. Poor packaging is a leading cause of damaged items.

A similar thing just happened to me also. Sold a Levi’s Sherpa Jacket in New w/Tags condition and the buyer had a DE Address. Roughly 3 weeks after the item showed as delivered they wrote to me saying they received item but it was very dirty and missing Tags, I knew right off the bat they were trying to pull a fast one because I inspect everything I ship and remember specifically packing this item out since I had to customize a box for it, Jacket was folded nice and neat inside a sealed poly bag to protect it from elements so there was no way it could have gotten dirty and miraculously the Tags gone missing. I stayed professional and told them I would be happy to accept a return on the item and I never heard from them again. I think they were fishing for a discount or refund. I was thinking I can sell Jacket as used worst case scenario so I wanted the item back regardless if I was going to have to issue a refund to this buyer in DE. I think we as sellers need to call their bluff when this happens and request item be sent back for a return, I bet most will just drop it after that. Thanks for your video and research & Congratulations on your new baby!! Julio

I'm in the UK but got scammed through ebay after selling a Football (soccer) shirt in 2020. I packed up and shipped the shirt, then 2 full weeks later the buyer messaged to say that I'd sent them the 'wrong item'. I shipped them a white England 1998 world cup shirt, adult size. They enclosed a picture of a red, child size shirt and shorts. I knew straight away that I was being scammed. I told them straight up that I'd never owned the item they had pictured, so could not have sent it to them. They insisted and as ebay now automatically refund the buyer (and withhold your seller fees) if you don't 'settle' before a time limit I had no option but to refund the buyer. So he kept the £35 AND the shirt...and sent me some useless tat as a "return". Beware, ebay is now like the wild west as buyers know that ebay sides with them. They try and pull all kinds of tricks...and ebay will not help sellers.

I put it in my ad that I do not give partial refunds, but I will give full refunds WHEN the item is returned. I sold a beautiful vintage Pendleton shirt to a guy, who claimed it had HUGE holes in it, which I knew it didn't because any wool items I literally inspect with a magnifying glass for moth holes. I also took more pics than I posted, so I had pics of the inside seams in the area he claimed was damaged. He sent a pic, that was not a hole, but just the inside of a seam where he picked a thread loose, blown up about 5X. He refused to send it back for full refund, insisted he really loved the shirt so he wanted $40 returned, which would have made his purchase $10 including shipping. NO! I looked at his store, and he only sells high end vintage clothing at really high prices. He wasn't getting many sales, but the ones he did were outrageous! Obviously, he's buying valuable items from other eBayers and scamming them, then reselling what he stole. His feedback had many complaints that he did this. He got removed from eBay eventually, but probably just started a new account.

I do a lot of sales where buyers utilize freight forwarders. It's a completely legit business, and they actually provide a lot of benefit to us sellers because as you point out, the customer loses buyer protection on the item. Whenever I see a freight forwarder being used, I do a little fist pump and know that the sale is final.

Yes but how will you know if they are using a freight forwarder?
@cphine
@cphine 2 жыл бұрын
@@Fighter4Street I've been on eBay for 20 years, so I've started to recognize a number of the companies. Most I've seen used are in Miami and Portland. Many have an "id number" or "reference number" as part of the address. If not, you can sometimes tell by seeing if you have the 1.65% international credit card fee added to your fees but are shipping to a domestic address. That's not foolproof, but a decent indication. Ultimately, if you have a return request from a foreign country but shipped to a domestic address originally, then that's a freight forwarder no doubt and you can deny the return.

Oh my gosh, Ashley! This is so crazy because this exact same thing happened to me. About two years ago a woman bought a snowsuit from me. A child’s snowsuit which was in beautiful condition. I live in the state of Delaware, very close to New Castle Delaware….and when it showed that the buyer lived at 8 McCullough Dr. in New Castle, Delaware, I thought, “Wow! that’s a coincidence.” So, when the woman emailed me and stated that the snowsuit was in horrible condition and she no longer wanted it and wanted to return it. And, it was at least a month after she had received it. Now, I knew it was in beautiful condition. It looked barely used when I shipped it. I told her to go ahead and return it and I would fully refund her. She stated no, she didn’t want to go through the process of returning it and she lives in Georgia. I was confused because I thought she meant Georgia, the state. She said no, I live in Georgia, the country. She stated that she buys a lot of things on eBay and gets them shipped to that address. She told me it would be too expensive to send it back and would Like me to pay for the return. I told her that I would not do that, however she was welcome to return the item for a full refund. This led to her threatening negative feedback for me if I don’t refund her at least partially, and she did eventually leave me negative feedback. I did go to eBay explain the whole situation, and they did remove the negative. eBayers definitely should be aware of that address here in Delaware, because the same exact thing happened to me. Great video! Thank you for sharing. And your little guy is adorable 🥰

Great video Ashley, unfortunately there are alot of freight forwarding companies out there that help international buyer with lower shipping cost and fees. I know of that one in Delaware, one in Miami and another one somewhere in California. Sometimes you can look at a buyers feed back for the month and if feedback is in the hundreds for one month, typically eBay buyer ID is associated with freight forwarding company.

I would suggest that you Report this Buyer to eBay so that they can mark this sale if any other issues come up. I am sure how it works since she used a Freight Forwarding company but I would hate to see her try to file a chargeback on a credit card later. Also I would download the delivery confirmation information and save it just in case. Have seen other Sellers mention customers like this waiting until the Delivery Confirmation is no longer visible on eBay and then claiming they didn't receive it. It is sad that you have to watch out for scams like these. I am glad you looked into it and said no.

When I was selling a few years ago I sold about 120 items over the course of a year. The prices ranged from $12 to $355. I had a problem with one buyer out of all those. That buyer insisted that "gold plated" meant solid gold and demanded that I not only refund the purchase price but that I let him keep the gold plated item as well or he would leave me negative feedback. I notified eBay of this attempt to extort and they prevented them from leaving me negative feedback. The important thing is to do 100% of all communications through eBay. I never give out my personal email address. The buyer insisted that we talk over the phone but that is also outside of eBay official communications channels so you have no way to prove what transpired in the conversation. If all communications go through eBay then eBay reps can review that and use it to determine if they should allow the negative feedback or issue a refund etc. In the long run I didn't lose any money and I kept my 100% feedback rating. All the items I sold were jewelry and coins. Some were gold plated and some were solid gold and some were sterling. So it varied. The coins were copper or silver. The item in question were 21kt gold plated earrings. I sold them for $20 which I was happy with since I paid $12 for them and shipping on such items is fairly inexpensive. On items over $25 I get insured. There is usually enough in my margin to cover that without too much pain. I'm thinking about making KZfaq videos though since viewers rarely scam the channel into refunding money. Plus the margins are much higher usually.

Another thing to bear in mind. I recently bought an item via eBay. The tracking number said it had been delivered to me, but I never received it. I've been a full time eBay seller since 2013. I can tell you for certain that if a buyer uses a reshipper, they void their buyer protection. eBay will usually have your back on that, particularly when a buyer acknowledges they had the item reshipped. The only time they might not have your back is if there's no way to prove they used a reshipping service. The person you were dealing with does sound like a scammer, but not all people who use those services are scammers. It's just a way for people to purchase your items when they're in a location you don't ship to. I've never cancelled an order because it was going to a reshipper, and I've never had an issue with it.

I did once about ten years ago. I don't ship outside the U.S. and the person was in Canada and I didn't know. They lived just over the border from a crossing point in New Hampshire. Somehow they got a U.S. post office box and so I shipped the item to that post office box. They drove across the boarder to pick up the item then drove back. Then they wanted to return it and so I agreed and it shipped from Canada. I don't do business with anyone in Canada so I refused the delivery and it went back to Canada. They then complained to eBay that I was trying to get out of refunding the purchase. I informed eBay that the only package I refused delivery of was from Canada and that I never sold anything to anyone in Canada. That is when they explained to eBay what they were doing. eBay told them they could drive across to the U.S. and ship it via USPS if they wanted to and I agreed. But they took so long doing it that the package arrived three months after the deadline for returning and I had forgotten about it. When I opened up the package with the New Hampshire postmark I realized what it was. I contacted eBay and they informed me that it was too late and the buyer was not entitled to a refund any more. I contacted the buyer and informed them of eBay's decision. I told them if they wanted to send me money to ship it back I would send it to the New Hampshire address. They then sent a torrent of scathing emails because it was too late to leave me feedback. I notified eBay and they suspended their account. eBay told me the official reason was their banned method of receiving packages violated terms of service. Then I blocked further emails from them. Now it is part of my disclaimer that not only do I not ship to other countries but if the buyer reships or travels to the U.S. just to pick up packages or if they return an item from outside the U.S. they will not get a refund. But I also have a disclaimer that I do not give refunds for buyer's remorse. I had a lot of people buy jewelry from me then return it because they didn't like it in person. I always post multiple high res photos of items clearly photographed so there is no question of quality. Just too many people like to buy a bunch of things, have them shipped to them then return all but the one they wanted all at seller's expense. That's fine for Amazon or other big sellers but I can't afford to throw away most of my margin to looky-loos.

Also beware of postage calculators that fail to recognise if a domestic shipping address requires additional fees for shipping depending on the building or facility ie a gated community. Ebay just sees the geographical location according to the zip code but when you take the item to the post office to send you find the cost is almost doubled. I had this happen so I got dinged for asking the buyer for additional shipping cost to cover the association delivery fees not included in the original calculation. So I cancelled the sale refunded what he had paid and still had to carry the ding of negative feedback. The difference being if I just paid the additional fee and ate the loss would have cost me 10.00 more dollars out of my pocket beside giving them the item free.

Amazing information, thank you. I'm elderly, verging on ancient and looking to sell some stuff on eBay so found it very informative. Happy New Year to you and your family. 🙏🙏🙏

I was recently scammed. Sold a 200$ plus 50$ shipping huge cast iron skillet. The buyer asked for a return because apparently it didn’t sit flat on her glass top range. Her request included photos of thanksgiving dinner made in the huge skillet. Dang I guess I got had. I sent a label anyway. I will just re scrub it re season it and re list it again. Movin on~no hard feelings. Just a drag.

That buyer should know Never use a cast iron pan on a glass top ! It could have been worse for them the glass can crack.

@@joannbass2505 What are you talking about, you can use cast iron on a glass top, just have to be a bit careful. But older cast iron is notorious for not being flat bottomed.

wow, definately a good address to keep in mind. I remember one time I encountered a bad seller though - she did a terrible job of loosely packaging two glass items together and one was heavy and smashed the more delicate one in the box. It was a two part item so of no use with half of it smashed to bits. It was a "fairy light" that has a heavy glass base and a very fragile glass shade over the top and you put a votive inside. I told her what happened and she basically told me tough - you didn't purchase insurance so you're just out of luck. I didn't have an option to do that? she said there was nothing she could do so I was out $60 bucks plus. If she had packaged it properly it would have been fine. It was her fault and she knew it and didn't give a damn. I bet you would never do something like that.

eBay would have backed you. It is still the seller’s problem if damaged in shipping. Insurance protects the seller if it doesn’t arrive to the buyer I damaged or at all. As both buyer and seller in different transactions, I contact eBay if there is a problem. They even paid me back shipping on a scammer. Follow their polices and contact them if there is a problem.

I would like to think most people wouldn’t do that, just for a repeat customer aspect. But at the grocery store, they bag my watermelon and eggs together, really? You can’t fix stupid, it’s illegal! I rebagged the items before I left the store, with a bewildering look on the baggers face!

I learned a very important lesson from this video: that baby is SO ADORABLE! I watched this entire video even though I have never sold anything on eBay and never will simply because I was waiting to see that cute little face again! Thank you for sharing that adorableness with us!
