Beyerdynamic DT700 Pro X headband foam problem falling apart & terrible customer service from Polar In this video I'm showing a big problem with my Beyerdynamic DT 700 Pro X headphones and also talking about some really bad customer support and aftercare from Beyerdynamic's UK distributor, Polar Audio. First problem. The foam cushion on the headband if my DT 700 Pro X headphones started falling apart about two to three months after buying them. This issue with headphones just got progressively worse over the following few months, leading me to ultimately asking for a refund from Amazon because Polar Audio, Beyer's UK distributor, were really bad with their support. Second problem. Instead of just sending me a replacement foam headband for my 700 Pro Xs, which is a user replaceable part. Polar Audio made me jump through unnecessary hoops for my request for support and they were very slow responding. The whole process for requesting support, with the questions on the support request form, just felt like it was deliberately designed to put you off requesting support. Instead of just offering a simple solution of sending me a replacement foam band, the whole process became a farce with the headphones needing to be sent back for inspections. What really gets me is that the replacement foam band is €14.99 direct from Beyer in mainland Europe. Seriously, how much does this part cost Beyer to make? I'd guess a few euro at best. So for the sake of a few euro, Polar Audio, who I suspect is just a trading division of Beyerdynamic here in the UK. Forced me to rerun these headphones back to Amazon for a refund, so I could just buy the same model again. I'm going to guess that these headphones end up in a landfill site somewhere and become a drain on our already over stressed environment, all for the sake of a few euro. What a waste. Hi! I had the same issue, BUT PLEASE KEEP READING - I bought them around late December 2023. Luckily! I ordered a new headband a couple weeks ago and they improved the headband construction. The leather now has perforations to attach the leather to the plastic mountings and its glued much more heavily onto the plastic. The padding is also more substantial. Please give these new headbands a try! I'm adding mine today and I'll make more comments with updates.

I have the improved headband, unfortunately it still fails after a while at the ends where they didn't change the mounting. They still use the same glue which simply fails after a while. If I had to guess the glue simply isn't compatible with the combination of oils, sweat and heat. Why they keep using the same glue is beyond me. It is even more disappointing considering the simple robust construction used in the DT770 headbands.

My DT900 Pro X did this after 5-6 months as well. They sent me a replacement headband and now about 6 months later it has done it again. Great audio quality, and generally good build quality, but the headband is just pathetic.

I sent mine back and Amazon gave me a refund, so I bought a new pair of 700s. Although, I’m not overly confident that I won’t have the same issue with my second set. like you with your 900s, I like the sound quality. I just wish that Breyer didn’t skimp on the headband, they are not doing themselves any favours. Cheers, Dave.

@@DavidHarryUncut you will, it happens to every pair of DT700s and DT900s. I got a replacement pair and after the same 6 months it fell apart. I said fuck it and wrapped it with black electric tape, but it's a big oversight on their part still

Yep, same headband issue for me too. On my replacement band for the last couple of months and the covering has peeled away again. Either there's not enough fabric wrapping on the inside of the band or the glue isn't great. Or perhaps my head is so hot that the glue melts. Doesn't matter the reason, I haven't mistreated these in any way but there's no longevity to the band. So now I'm repairing it with super glue. And on a new band, I'm reinforcing it with super glue. No idea if this'll help!

i replaced the original headband for the same issue. bought 2 replacements from Beyer support. The 1st replacement also delaminated in 4 months. 🤦‍♂ At this point I'm going to look for some aftermarket headband solution b/c there's no reason to try to expect them to actually improve the problem.

My headband just fell apart on my DT900 Pro X. The Beyerdynamic web site says they are currently out of stock. 😡

I do see some 3rd party replacement pads for like $8 on Amazon these days. Might help, for those looking in 2024.

Ok, it can be replaced from time to time, but it costs about 30 euros in my country.I have already replaced two pieces of these bands in 1.5 years and it makes no sense, after 3-5 months the new one is damaged again. My headphones are out of warranty.The next failure is the cracking plastic from the inside of the headband, right at the entrance of the metal forks.Probably, during the application, the metal tip with the limiter presses on this plastic part of the headband and damages it.Beyerdynamic needs to improve this, because the headphones in terms of comfort, sound and detail are great, but their durability is hopeless.

Hi. The more I look into this the more that I see that many people are having issues with both of the newer designs. I too may also go back to my old 770s, which is a pity as I do prefer the sound of the 700s. It's really quite shocking what Beyer have done with these newer headphones. As you say, they are great in terms of comfort and sound but that's all quite useless and redundant if they fall apart. There's no way that Beyer with their experience in headphone design and manufacturing, didn't know about these issues before bringing the headphones to market. I'm also shocked by the lack of reporting of these issues by the "bigger" reviewers. Cheers, Dave.

Something so simple and they couldn’t even remedy that. Shout outs to Amazon in trying to remedy it right there by giving you a refund. But the company couldn’t even send you the replacement part which would have been cheaper on both ends. I’ve never owned those pair of headphones. Hopefully your next pair from them won’t have that same issue early on. Cheers!

Found this video because I've had my headphones for 3 months and this has happened to me too. I bought mine from Scan (UK) so I'll give them a call tomorrow to see if I can get mine returned.

Hi, Christopher. If you look at the comments on this video, it's full of people with the same problem. This is a serious design flaw by a company who otherwise make excellent headphones. Not that there's anything wrong with the audio quality of the 700s but the headphone and Beyer are completely let down with this stock/manufacturing issue. Hopefully Scan will do the right thing. ​@@DavidHarryUncutScan have requested some photos of the issue and will organise a return. I insisted that it's a user replaceable part though in the hopes that just the headband can be replaced. If I settled for the return it would have been organised already, but the idea of me fixing it has delayed this by a couple of days. It's my first venture into Beyerdynamic headphones, away from Audio-Technica and it's surprised me if I'm honest. I was told that Beyer headphones are top quality for their prices and while that's true for the sound, the build quality is lacking compared to other brands at the same price point. I'll let you know what Scan have to say, they should be getting back to me tomorrow.

That’s good news with Scan, at least one way or another you’ll get your headphones sorted. Like I said before, Beyer really have let themselves down with this bad design issue. Even if the headphones sound great, it’s the overall use of the headphones that also matters, especially if you use them every day as I do. It’s no good having great sounding headphones, or at least a sound that you like, if the things fall apart. I hope you get this sorted quickly. Cheers, Dave.

@@DavidHarryUncut Beyerdynamic has updated their headbands since launch of DT700 Pro X. I don't know if the glue has been replaced with something more lasting, but I just got a replacement headband sent to me and it has more leather material on the backside of the plastic part of the headband. The original just had tiny strip on the backside, so I assume that they at least use more glue now and has less chance of coming lose with time.

you search for help (because there is no headbands in stock) and you find a video with comments of dozens who are having the same poor quality issue, finally checked amazon reviews and its riddled with the same complaints... my 700's are less than 5 months old and the headband is a flap of fabric and a flap of foam... I thought the 700's were going to solve my problems with the 770's that had squished ear pads after a few months, cables that couldn't be replaced if damaged, and plastic that cracked where the ear cups attached to the head band... but all I've done is switch one set of problems for seemingly another... they can make amazing sounding headphones, they just can't make what holds that sound last... very disappointed and this 3rd pair (2x770 1x700) will likely be the last I ever purchase from them, I just can't sink more money into headphones that have issued after a few months... had I not experienced the past issues maybe I would be more tolerant of a simple headband and bought some glue, but over a thousand bucks in, the simple headband is now a much bigger issue to me due to frustration...

Same! with DT 900 Pro X Polar were useless. They wanted me to send the whole unit back to Polar and wait til they got replacements. My understanding is in EU Beyerdynamic just send you new headphone band part as they know there is a design issue that causes the headband to fail. I bought a 3rd party copy part. I'll avoid Polar in the future.

I just had my 4th band wear away. They've been replacing them so far, but this is a design issue. If they stop sending me new headbands then I'll probably try to drill some holes in one of them and stitch them. I didn't expect such shit quality from such a well known brand.

Hi. That's very disappointing, thanks for the information. I actually got a refund from Amazon because mine was still within its 12 month warranty. I then bought another set because I do like their sound. However, if this happens again within the warranty period, I'll just get a refund and get a different model, maybe even change brand. After having multiple pairs of DT 770's 880's and 990's failing because the "Slider Clips" were an issue I was excited for the 990 Pro X's Now I'm in exactly the same position. Between 5 and 6 Months of ownership and the headband has failed. Seriously considering not using Beyerdynamic ever again, either at home or in the studio.

I have dt900 pro x and the same problems with the headband fell apart after 6-7 months. Having open the headband I found the glue is not strong enough and finally broken and showed the sponge inside. Try to contact the dealer in Indonesia without any feedback. They just ask me to send it to them and wait for 2-3 months. I refuse it, because I use my headphone everyday for practicing my keyboard and music. Finally I found the "bekleed" (it's a small furniture workshop) and the owner was happy to make me a new headband with a leather. I hope it can stand the time. I believe beyerdynamic engineer is made a wrong design, too bad because I love the sound quality of this headphone. Probably will sell it after I found the replacement.

My 3rd replacement headband just broke again.. So terrible The original lasted 6 months, the free replacement lasted 2 months, and another replacement I bought lasted untill a week ago. Bought the headset in Jan 2022.

@@DavidHarryUncut I have emailed them about this issue, they didn't respond to my email, BUT they immediately sent me a new one to my adress. This time the design seems to have been improved. Over 70% - 80% of the length of the headband they used a wider patch of fabric, so it (hopefully) won't come off that easily. Only place where its still really thin is around the pull trigger. Let's hope this 4th headband is the final one I need lol

That's not true. They have way more glue on them. But it's still the same weak glue. It will fall apart and come apart. Needs to be spread out more. Idk but this is pathetic at this point. I'm about to be on my 5th one in my warranty period.

I am on my 3rd headband withing 9 months of owning the headset. I am going back to Sennheiser and will avoid Beyer in the future.

same issue, I went through 4 in two years. My Girlfriend however is still on her first headband with 18 months of use on her DT 900 pro x (basically the same headphones, but with open design - but same headband).

I just got my 700 Pro X today and the headband really hurts the top of my head. Even minutes after wearing them. My Sennheiser 280 and 380 never that this issue. Is there a replacement headband that has more padding???

Just happened after almost a year for me.. they use a really bad glue on the fake leather sadly, if you buy these headphones or get replacement headband for them then put on some of your own glue to make sure it doesn't happen.

I fixed my headband by applying new glue (super glue). The leather part came lose completely so I had to do it from scratch again. I bought my headphone from Thomann and first they wanted me to send in the whole headphone to get this fixed, I insisted that it was a user replaceable part and they agreed to send me a sparepart headband instead (thank goodness). I'm going to continue to use my repaired headband and keep the sparepart as a spare if it breaks again. The new headband has more leather material on the backside of the plastic, maybe it will hold up better over time compared to the original version.

actually it's the other way around not the most recent headphones but All Beyerdynamic headphones have all replaceable parts unfortunately for these DT700 Pro X and DT900 Pro X they changed the design with this stupid low quality headband that is much worse then the OG Models like DT770 or DT990 not Only that but they also made the earpads with stupid proprietary lock system meaning No 3th party earpads now finally there's 3th party earpads literally 2 years after release but theres only few types unlike for the DT770 or DT1770 there's literally hundreds of different earpads from different brands not so for these new models but now we finally have proper upgrade the new DT770 Pro X uses same drivers from DT700 Pro X has detachable cable and uses slightly modified version of the OG headband much better then DT700 Pro X plus you can change it for the OG DT770 headband if you want and you can use all the 3th party earpads you want cause they don't use that new proprietary lock system

They are fantastic headphones. Its a shame they are undermined by a small part that should simply be redesigned. The approach on the DT-770/990 line is the 'fold on, button top' style, and those things are bulletproof! I have had those for years and they'd have to disintegrate before failing. That they chose a shittier design for what is a more-expensive set of headphones is just bad decision making.

I have gone through 4 headbands in my total warrant period. My warranty will be up in Febuary. I just ordered another one in July, and it's already failing. Headphones are perfect for me. Headband is a disgusting way to make consumers constantly buy more product from you.

If you can fix them then that's good but there's no way anyone should be expected to fix an expensive pair of headphones by a reputable manufacturer, especially when the headphones aren't even a year old. Cheers, Dave.

Planned obsolescence is a common practice in the design of electronic products, whereby the product is deliberately made delicate or prone to rapid wear and tear. This intentional design flaw deceives the consumer into purchasing replacement parts at a higher price than necessary, thus maximizing the profit margin for the manufacturer. It is interesting to note that Beyerdynamic is aware of the issue and still sells the parts that wear down quickly instead of resolving it. I had the same issue and observed that only a small droplet of glue was holding the leather onto the foam pad, moisture in the air and oil from hair can contribute to the breakdown of the tiny adhesive they use.

i have 2 pairs of DT 700 PRO X and im buying from difrent stores.... i never had this issue...so.... try better to make then look bad. btw you can speak with beyer support and besides that there are replasement parts in their site so....dont cry like a baby
