The Beyer Mics being ribbon types, collect minute details that are missed by other type of mics, So they lend an awesome sense of realism to what you're listening to through them as opposed to say, a shure 57 or 58... I had an m500 a long time ago, and it was night and day different from a 58 or 57! I only used it for vocals back then, but recording a guitar with it or even a bass, would have been spectacular! The only thing better I can imagine would be a Neumann u87! SO MUCH MONEY FOR THEM, BUT SO WORTH IT!!!!!!!!!! The way they sound for vocals or guitar, or WHATEVER!!!!!!! My friend has one and I actually sang through it, one time-He's very protective of it!!!🙀😸!!!, And you know Brian may uses it for recording his amps, because trying to record or amplify Vox AC30 with a small diaphragm microphone is, well... ABSOLUTE DISASTER!!!!!!!!!! Just try to use a 57 on one... Go ahead... I DARE YOU 😸!!! You just CAN'T get a worse sound!!! You need a large diaphragm mic for them!!! A Sennheiser 409 will work VERY WELL, but not like the Neumann!!!!!!!!!! Sennheiser 409's are great for vocals also! It all depends on how much money you have to spend, now doesn't it?

Well I have both the M160 and M260 and both are spectacular microphones. the M160 along with a Neuman KM184 small diaphram fet microphone are wonderful together for vocals and for acoustic guitar. also I find I like ribbons as overheads as they make toms sound great and the cymbals not to harsh as you might find with a fet condenser microphone. that I will typically use for a room mike if working with ribbons as overheads microphones. Finally the M 260 is a more cardiode version of the M 160 just wonderful for vocals, I have used many time for live performance on vocals, but will experiment on snare top, I typically use and old Sennheiser 409 for snare top
