Then proceeds to kill her man how long can he hold his breath before his death then she proceeds to sing Caro mio ben (Italian opera) where I take that as she’s talking to the cops after because caro mio ben is basically saying “you’re the love of my life, without you I am nothing” I take this as she’s playing the damsel in distress. “I didn’t kill him, I love him, without him I am nothing!” She ate that and yall saying it wasn’t good are basic and ya poonani stank.

i find that people that aren't feeling Cowboy Carter are used to Beyonce being in one lane. A lane that has a shelf life of 5-10 years max. Even when it was clear from DIL that Beyonce was something entirely different than standard R&B fare. Those of us with expansive taste and range with music, actually enjoy it. If people were paying more attention to the symbolism and what Beyonce said when she said this isn't a country album, it's a beyonce album - they would've got it. Can't believe at our big age that we still go into things with HIGH expectations when our range isn't as high. And to still say that with an artist 8 albums in - is wild to me. people were complaining that she doesn't sing enough - she opens Cowboy Carter SINGING DOWN! and she does it different ways and styles throughout. She didn't do the rap trap thing that much on this album. she had country, gospel, a llittle rap, vocals, harmonies, vibe records, uptempos, down tempos and a few duets. Still not iimpressed? with the hybrids of sounds, feels, energy. sorry to hear that.

Thing with `Jolene` though,is,the whole begging part makes a whole lot more sense in the context of the relationship being discussed than Beyoncé`s version using the same framework. With Dolly and Jolene,I always perceived it as two women in a precarious situation. Dolly understanding her man is shutting down emotionally for Jolene and seeing why,and Jolene being unsure of what to do with herself and her understanding of the couple. So Dolly begging Jolene isn`t only for the sake of her man but herself as well,as she feels like both her and Jolene would lose themselves if something came to pass. Even though she secretly KNOWS something will happen,like foreshadowing tragedy. Beyoncé`s version treats the relationship as if Jolene`s someone hanging around them and she`s hard to get rid of because she wants Beyoncé`s man so bad. The whole begging part vulnerably reveals Dolly`s insecurities which are obviously there,considering this song exists. Beyoncé in the song,meanwhile,is trying hard to mask those insecurities by acting tough which,in turn makes her seem pathetically petty,rather than strong. And also,y`know,the man she`s fighting so strongly for...is Jay Z 😭.
@andreacollins32043 ай бұрын
If you actually listened wheh she says she’s a creole banjeee bitch from Louisiana you will get that it’s not about jay z. This is from her mother’s point of view.
@HeiRo5003 ай бұрын
Honestly, I think that’s just a cultural difference between how vulnerability is expressed. A lot of people mask their vulnerability by being “proud” and narratively with the album, it perfectly sets up Daughter. Plus, I think of this rendition to be more from the perspective of Tina than Bey. Also Jolene doesn’t really exist so putting hyperrealism and making it be a “girl, nobody wants Jay Z” moment I think is missing the point. A fictional story with fictional characters, so the narrator doesn’t necessarily have to be Beyoncé so much as Cowboy Carter (being a character that as a listener, we should divorce our ideas of who Beyonce is and get into the story. Other artists get to have fictional stories in their art but typically genres aimed at Black people, I notice are always taken extremely literally)
@raemarie56653 ай бұрын
@@HeiRo500 I totally agree. I saw no indication that it was about Jay Z and saw no need to relate it to him. Cowboy Carter doesn't have the full story telling that Lemonade does but there is a bit of it with a portion of the album (from Bodyguard to Daughter with, in my opinion, a brief moment with Tyrant.) In Bodyguard, I felt like Beyonce was talking about a woman in love but possessive and that possessiveness and insecurity shows itself in Jolene. I think some of the critiques of the cover forget that insecurity shows itself in different ways (i.e. the cultural differences that you mentioned). Possessiveness is a toxic trait so it shows it's worst face in Daughter where she kills Jolene and then uses Caro Mio Ben to say that she basically can't live without her husband. With Tyrant, it looks like Beyonce is singing about a woman who is envious of Jolene and wants her to teach her her ways. I simply saw this as a toxic but fun bit of storytelling.

Omg a slower and lower tone song sounds “eerie” WHO WHAT HAVE THOUGHT!?!?😳😐 empressives opinions are so dumb, her saying beyonce only made the album because she wanted her lick back is so bogus. There are THREE ACTS, they all have meanings. She made this album to take back a genre that was stolen and appropriated😆

I’ve come to realize that people do not earnestly listen to music like they believe they do, they just want to be contrarians. Especially when it comes to Beyonce. You do not have to like the album in the slightest, you can believe that its the worst album of 2024, but it’s very telling when people just keep talking about how bad or lackluster it is as people are continuously praising it. People already believe she is overrated, so her making a “country” album with critical acclaim is just going to reinforce that belief. Some people in these comments doing that exact thing, it cracks me up. These people do not have honest critiques about the album, they just want to slander it just cuz 🤷🏾♂️

I have mixed feelings with this album. On my initial listen I didn’t like it tbh, it seemed too long and convoluted. BUT I’ve heard it about four times now and the album is definitely a grower. My faves are Yaya, 16 carriages, bodyguard, 2 hands 2 heaven, and river dance. My biggest critique of this album is that it seems manufactured, the lyrics seem surface level or empty and most songs offer no depth. But Beyonce really sines with the vocals on this album, the harmony’s and the way the vocals are constructed and layered is definitely the standout aspect of CC. The album is an experience and I’m sure it’ll continue to grow on me,
@DefinitelyKitty3 ай бұрын
I encourage you to go back and just read the lyrics. You may think they are surface level because the meanings are going over your head. American requiem talks about the history of country and taking a stand, my rose talks about accepting your flaws through all of your beauty, alligator tears can be interpreted in many ways, some people theorize that it’s her talking to her children and adoring them and doing anything for them despite their fake tears others think it’s a metaphor for Beyonce being in a love hate relationship with America/how’s she treated in the industry (google what are crocodile tears), Yaya is very political telling ppl to take stand but keep the faith and vote. She also addresses her linage in Yaya because her mother’s maiden name was spelled incorrectly and she reclaimed by naming Beyonce with the correct spelling. Dessert eagle is both a sex position and a gun and pretty sure she talking about both in the song lol. If you don’t understand the reference they can certainly go over your head. You always have do research when it comes to beyonce albums. Everything has a meaning with her, she is super intentional.

If empressive actually did research since she has so many followers instead of talking out the side of her neck with false information.
