The fact that anyone in the United States lacks electricity, running water, etc. should be considered by all of our politicians to be a national crisis and they should have all hands on deck to rectify the issue immediately. But unfortunately they care more about lining their own pockets than serving the people

Why should they have to pay for power at all? Incredible.

I was 9- 60 years ago- when my grandmother in rural Mississippi got an electric stove. I remember how excited she was...so that must be a tiny piece of how exciting it must be to get electricity! Congratulations!

Oh. The good ol'days. I am navajo. I miss hauling water, cutting wood for winter and living off the land. Winters are tough especially for the old, sick and young. I'll admit it, there was a winter when my grandmother thought we weren't going to make to summer - a lot of snow, about 3ft of it blocked the door. I'm not sure why the Navajo nation- we have our own government- is taking forever to make a difference. Please don't bring up Casinos as a form of reparations, that's a myth. It goes back to the US Government.

This makes me cry because all my life I never understood why we don’t have power yet we have all these coal mines on our land. I never thought the cost falls on the families on the land. Which is dumb bc yes we are a sovereign nation but does not the US government promote the general welfare?

I've recently been watching videos on the brutal colonisation and the horrors and atrocities committed against these beautiful American Indians. I have deep respect for their ways of living and rich culture. Listening to the elderly lady speaking filled my heart with such sadness and pain. Their ancestors lived in balance with the land for 10,000 plus years which was resource rich and was stolen from them. It is so sad and appalling the living conditions they have been forced to endure even to the present day. Polluting their environment with coal mining and electricity lines on their land yet not suppling each and every home with electricity at no charge is appalling treatment The true history of what happened to Indigenous peoples all around the world should be taught in schools and be required reading. I'm all the way over in Australia and wish to help get their land back and see them once again thrive in their cultural practices and revive their languages.

I agree, I just wish more people in the US had your sentimate and empathy. I live on the Navajo Nation in Window Rock capital of our Nation and due to beareucratic red tape I was not able to transfer the utilities in my name after my father passed in March 2023and my power was shut off. So it has been almost 3 months during the hottest summer on record where temperatures where at 100 degrees and I had no air conditioning. Despite calls, emails to tribal officials no one has returned my calls.

Add on your list Cyprus, an isolated island, had solar panels in 1973-74. And how long is it we began using them? Also, who came out to be more civilized? So yeah, that too …

I have a fraction of native DNA, and what was done years ago to the native Americans was so wrong, and what is still going on is so wrong, I would like to help if I could, I am not in much of a better situation, but I have skills I picked up over the years, I live of grid, these ppl need to get forklift batteries, even used ones will help alot, they still have life, they just will not run the lift for 8-10 hours, and most can be setup for any voltage, 12,24,36,48v, or seriesed for more, and there is probably good wind for powering a wind turbine, to generate good power, it seems many small wind turbines is the was to go. Between 500 watts and 2500-3000 watts, and can be bought for about $1200 average, and can even be built at home, it could rally help ppl in the reservation, maybe build a neighborhood power plant from solar and wind, its what we all need to do, to save our planet, putting up 6 or so 3kw wind turbines, and a large solar array, panels can be bought used , in good working condition, in Az, for $0.40 per watt, the power could be sold to the ppl, to help pay for the system, a house can be run easily on a 3kw, inverter, build a central power plant, with the batteries and inverters, and if the houses aremy too far away simply wire it up, or build smaller powerplants between houses to cut down distance, and for houses out on their own, a 3kw turbine and 3 kw of solar would be plenty, I wish I had that much!! Just some crazy thoughts from someone who is only trying to help with ideas!

When it seems simple as what you described the tribal politicians turn a deaf ear. They have plenty of money for their relatives but fir the average Navsjo out in the boonies they don't hive a shit. Each election they all promise the world but once in office you never see any progress. Same old shit different politician.

I find it not only sad but Shameful that the Leaders get so much Federal money yet the tribe members get little to nothing. A couple of yrs ago the federal gov't started a program to give over $33Million to the Navajo nations ANNUALLY. Where that money went is,,well, who knows. Add to that, the TAX FREE Casinos and Tax free cigarette market from these reservations combined make BILLIONS and the Peoples get hardly anything from it. Navajo peoples should be living comfortably with all the gov't funding, casino and tax free markets on the Res. But as I talk to the people living there, drive through the areas where the Res is located. all I see is Empty Wine, Whiskey and Beer bottles along the highway like a solid carpet of GLASS. NOTHING has been done to address the Drug, Organized Crime and Alcohol problems these People face. And NO ONE on this comment sections says a damn thing about it. DISGUSTINGLY DISTURBING.

Off the grid, people are always impeding progress. They want something in return for the right of away through their supposed land. People always want a house built or something for the electricity to pass through. NTUA's wifi is always dropping now and then.

So glad solar is the blessing needed for these peoples ? Solar is the future for ALL Americans ,out here in rhe rural Oregon solar is showing up on more and more roof tops ,but the batteries are expensive for some of us too so how come the casinos do fund them for you guys or great more jobs for you people by inviting more tourists and resorts to help with income? That while desert and can't grow crops or raise lamas or something good riddance

The entire privy seems too much. It was not that amount when they went through. The people were ask to be educated in dealing with electric and the supply was to have a stationary place there. All the lack about the going through had answers. Cost seems frivolous unless cruelty is reason. All material is less than .

Get some money back from the white man at the Casino's, Reservations are on such desolate land and it's not fair they have to live in such poor conditions. Many prayers for the Navajos The outside world has forgotten who was here first and the American people have been brainwashed into believing it's their land.

Navajos are nomadic people. We have livestock and grow crops. This type of lifestyle does not accompany living in communities. Yes, the government sends money but there are layers of red tape required by the US government that hinders many needs of the Navajo.
