It seems to be pretty common that there is confusion as to what graphic designers are. Graphic design is the design of text, lettering, menus, and logos - It's not heavily reliant on drawing or painting. What Dylan Cole is doing is called Matte Painting, and Conceptual Design / Illustration. Also: Fine Art is Not related to conceptual design/illustration, or matte painting AT ALL... so if anyone wants to study to create images like these... stay as far away from a major in Fine Art as you can!!! (Fine art = Modern, Abstract stuff - what you see in modern art museums. ...) This type of work (Matte Painting + Conceptual Design + Realistic Illustration) relies heavily on fundamentals - how the real world works visually: Perspective, Value, Composition, Color, Lighting, Camera lenses, etc. You will NOT find that in a Fine Art major, or a Graphic Design major AT ALL. It's a very specific and important set of tools that you have to research well if a college is actually teaching (or just saying they are...) I made the huge mistake of going to a university that did not teach the fundamentals.. Didn't even know that I needed to learn them.. didn't know WHAT they were. Went into fine art.. (when what I wanted, was to be a realism-based illustrator).... BIG MISTAKE... An expensive, uninformed mistake. All that I have to show for the "education" of fine art is a mountain of student tuition debt. Now having to "teach myself" the fundamentals from scratch - through concept art online talks/videos. So don't make the same mistake I did, if you're an aspiring realism-based artist. Study the Fundamentals, and don't get sucked into the trap of Fine Art or Graphic Design!!! That will be money flushed down the drain! Trust me!

Robert G Thank you - yeah, just recently found out about the site.. Really valuable information... Got sucked into a job prematurely, but when it's done, will dive in to learn. It makes no sense to keep creating mediocre work and spreading it all over the place...

Hey! I hope you are doing well now. Thanks for clearing these points out. It's almost 2023 and I feel like there are still too many people who actually can't differentiate between these.
