Honestly I wish we'd spent more time with her as Jean before she goes Dark Phoenix. We barely got to know her in Apocalypse.

I am not sure why everyone thinks Fox is getting it right. In recent years, they've only got two X-men related movies right, that is 'Deadpool and Logan, and to be honest while Logan was a great movie, it really was not a great X-men adaptation. They just lucked out in my mind with a decent story, and a more mature format which allowed for better performances from great actors. Nothing in the actual X-men movies showes me that Fox learned their lesson. This film series reached its peak with 'X2'then again got lucky with 'Days of Future Past.' It's time for them to abort this thing along with their seperation from Singer.

I really hope this Disney/Fox merger falls through. I'm sick of vanilla Marvel. The X-Men films haven't followed the Marvel formula, and have thrived for the most part. Only X-Men Origins : Wolverine and X-3: The Last stand have truly sucked. If Marvel takes over, we'll have more boring origin stories and vanilla villains. I want something more for the X-Men. They deserve better than Marvel.

Still not a fan of Sophie Turner,, primarily her acting still comes off as incredibly cardboard like from time to time and obviously she’s gotten more acting lessons on Game of Thrones but that was not noticeable in X-Men Apocalypse...but hopefully she can deliver and make me a believer. There has been no build up to this iconic story. We barley spent time with the cast which once again seems to be choosen at random. Mystic is forced fed down our throats. When will this end. I have faith that Kevin feige knows this sucks.

Well…we got one scene where Jean went full Phoenix. And it was glorious. It looked like she was made out of stardust, glitter and plasma. It was a so-so movie. Definitely watchable, but not great. And it was an enormous shame we never saw Jean use more of her Phoenix powers or shift into Phoenix form. But again, the scene at the end where she sacrifices herself was absolutely stunning. I just wish we had more of it.

I agree with your suspicion of Simon Kinberg and what he has actually brought the the fox marvel properties and this is his way to prove to the fans that he's been on our side. I think he's gonna nail it.

Wait!? X-Men are now in the nineties? The animated series was in the 90s ... does that mean: WE GET AN X-MEN MOVIE close to the ANIMATED SERIES?

Why is it so hard for them to use teams that we would recognize from all those years of comics? Why do they think they can change the stories to be better. Trimmed for the constraints of the different medium, sure, but adding characters? And how are they shoe-horning Magneto into the Dark Phoenix story? Marvel Studios has done a great job of giving us characters that remind us of what we've read on the page. Fox has given us heroes that have the same name and usually some characteristic of the character. (Except for Deadpool, seemed to have nailed him...) Shame that they get to screw up the Phoenix story twice in a decade so we'll have to wait that much longer for Marvel Studios to redo it correctly.

There was that one extremely short-lived X-Men TV series, that had some good suits, the one with Banshee and Emma Frost as instructors at the mansion. That kind of design might work for a movie based in the nineties.

When Jessica Chastain said she wasn't playing Lilandra the first thing I thought was she must be playing the Phoenix entity. Maybe we'll see flashes of her in Jean and hear her voice when The Phoenix takes over and is causing destruction. She's incredibly beautiful and would have made a great Jean Grey. I really don't want any spoilers. As the movie gets closer to coming out I won't be searching anything X-Men related online, I'm avoiding Facebook and I don't even want to see the trailer because even that spoils a lot. Give me a date of release and I'm there.

Grace - I love you and your reviews - but this cast is on the weak side, and it would be very nice for Marvel's MCU to put it's touch on this franchise.... there are a few things that have been consistently missing in the X-Men films: 1: Storm. Halle is fine, but Storm is a 6', domineering, East - African and African American mix who doesn't take shit, and was one of the first - if not THE first - female superhero shown that was more than capable of taking on anyone. She took on the MEN when many of her female peers were still being written as victims. Her power set and ability to use it was always first rate, but the films have done nothing but show her second rate. Her hand to hand and thievery skills also exceptional - and what we have gotten was a consistently diluted (and I must say - lighter and lighter skinned) Storm. I strongly believe Chastain is playing Veranke, the Skrull Empress that basically started the Secret Invasion. I can see them using a skrull to pass as Jean, that way they would still have the “clone” storyline and that would be the reveal that happens halfway through the movie.
