Was on the BFG All Terrain since the 80’s and loved them. Then one set Duratrac’s,hated them. Went back too the BFG’s and was really to try something better on wet roads. Switched to the Falkens at 3’s and was sold for what I thought was life. Now this,and I’m in the market now. The weight difference is REAL and interesting. If one had raised white letters, I make the choice for all the wrong reasons.

Your unbiased reviews of AT and Off Road tires are in my opinion, the best on the internet and are extremely informative for those of us shopping around for these type of tires. I especially like how you weigh the pros and cons of the tires you review and remind us what's most important, is matching the tire to the type of on or off road driving we mostly do. Your knowledge of AT/RT/MT tires is so helpful in choosing the right tire for our rigs for us who are less of an expert like you. It's very helpful how you explain how and why the details tire manufactures put into an AT/RT/MT tire. Thanks for your efforts, I'm a subscriber and keep the super informative reviews "rolling"!

Thanks for the great discussion. We waited for the KO3 but gave up at first snow and went FalkenWP RTs- pretty much the AT3 with more aggressive tread. Way better in mud but significantly worse both on dry pavement and in snow.

Thanks for the info! I just discovered your page last week. I drive a diesel Ford F250 and live on dirt roads (4 miles to hwy). Most of my mileage is highway, but I work in the oilfield, so I am in the mud often enough. I also haul a camper a fair amount. I need a tire that is going to do well enough on mpg on the hwy, but also a good enough mud tire (yes, looking for the best of both worlds). Thanks

Appreciate your reviews on these. I have been running the AT3w for a little over 45,000 miles now. Up until the last 3-4,000 miles, I have loved them, but they have been getting sketchy in the wet. Although the snow this winter they haven't been bad. But since I am not towing with the truck any more, that weight savings of the VFG KO3, if it is true, is a huge consideration. 8-10# of unsprung mass/rolling weight is a huge deal. Have to see if the new KO3 comes in the size I want (305/55-20 or 33x12.50x20) and how they are balancing out for people. Heard a lot of issues with balancing and vibration issues with the KO2's. I do really like the AT3w, never though they were loud, but they are heavy tires and the wet traction has degraded noticeably, and they still have around 12-13/32nd's left on them.

You make some very good points and reflect some of my personal thoughts. I have seen many sets of BFG KO2's that are loved and about as many sets that are hated. Lately I have installed some KO2's on some of my buddies F150's and they love them, wear great, quiet, great in snow. I have another buddy that just bought a 22 JK Rubicon with the eco diesel, at 22k the factory 285/70R17 KO2's are down to 6/32nds and he hates them. I have another buddy that drives a Dodge 3500 with a cummins , I put a set of 275/70R18's on his truck last March. They balance horribly and I think I rebalanced them 3 times. They were on nationwide backorder so I couldn't return them to get another set, but they finally settled in. In November I replaced that set with another set of the same thing. Over 70k and still had 7-8 32nds and he is always loaded heavy. I just installed a set of Falken A/T3W's on another buddies truck, a 2022 Silverado 3500 Duramax. He hates noisy tires, but he was really mad when he rock drilled a Goodyear factory tire with only 8k. I asked him how he liked the Falken's and he told me he wasn't thrilled with how they felt on the road, I am guessing tread squirm, kind of like what you said. I haven't heard him complain lately though. I have another hunting buddy that loves the Falkens and I put a set on his Duramax 2500 last year and he says they are wearing great and he tows quite a bit. For those of us that are tire nuts, it would be very cool to do a tire comparision new vs 50% to see how much traction changes as they wear. I am kind of curious as to why Falken has so many tread designs that aren't that much different, IE the Rubicon R/T .

I have a 2020 F250 7.3 on a Carli 3" level and am comparing these 2 tire brands again. First time KO2 vs AT3. I need 37 12.5 x 20's. I have always been a big BFG fan since the early 90's and even have a set on my Icon golf cart with the white letters out. I have tried just about every tire on my HD diesels for years and have shied away from BFG due to not lasting, not balancing and always seem smaller in size in comparision which irritates the sh!t out of me when it makes my truck look squatty. I ended up going with the Falkins and loved them...best tire I ever had, even better than my 2 favorite hybrids...Ridge grappler and X-AT. I need a new set in about 10 days before i leave on another trip and am looking at AT4 vs KO3. I tow heavy equipment into a muddy jobsite and tow a 17k boat but mostly travel on the road and hwy and tow shorter distances 2 times a week. Love the channel.

This channel is great! Love your work man. I'd like to get to where im doing what you do but with the smaller kore common sized tires instead of the big ones you run. There are some tire options you cover that im interested in trying. I did want to say that the discover rugged trek might be a good option that would interest many and surprise lots in performance compared to the others.

Your opinion Outdoor Auto.. i have a 2018 gmc sierra and a 2000 silverado.. i have at3w's on both of them.. i love them. Said thats the only tire im ever gonna run again.. one was made in Japan and one was Thailand. Seems i got better mileage out of the Japan ones.. anyways my question is.... I commute on i-40 about 25 min to work and back in total daily.. but.. i have a long steep gravel/red clay driveway to my house.. the wildpeaks with 4/32nds on the 2000 silverado went up and down thr hill better than my neighbors brand new trail boss with the duratracs.. he got stuck half way up.. i live in the NC mtns also so we get all the weather. Rain, heat, snow, ice everthing. The wildpeaks are awesome... I never have been a bf fan which i nevrr heard of Falken either yrs ago when my tire guy recommended them to me.. which would you choose between the 2 for my driving what i just described..!?? i like the deeper tread on the at3w but i raally like what they did with the new ko3 also .. they look alot better imo than the ko2.. would u just flip a coin in my situation? Whichever i think looks better ? What do u think? Best case if i can afford it is put ko3 on the 2000 and at4w on the 2018.. same size tire and wheels on both trucks.. sorry i was all over thr place with this hope it all makes sense lol

Go Niners! I have a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Elevation with the "basic" 4WD system. I hate the tires it came with...Bridgestone Dueler AT's. I want a more aggressive look. Leaning towards a Toyo. Specifically one of their R/T's or the AT 3. I like the look and there doesn't seem to be a huge weight penalty. Size is 275/60 R20. What I can't find about the Toyo's is information about noise and traction in water since on road driving is main use case.

What would you consider putting on a tacoma for snow? I live in the mountains in california. We get a lot of snow in the winter that gets compressed and icy. I m trying to get some falken at3’s 265/70/17 the at4 sipes look less grippy. Thoughts?

I’ve got a 2019 ZR2 with a 1.25 level kit and some cooper at3’s on a set of summer stock 18:07 wheels in 265/70/17. I also have some black rhino wheels that have some duratrac 265/65/17 on them that I’ve been using for winter tires and will need replaced before next fall and I’d like some more off-road, ice tires in a taller size. 255/80/17 rubbed so probably going with 255/75/17 but cannot figure out which off road, lightweight tires for winter/hunting.

So I was gonna move to a 255/80r17 for my 4runner. 33", light. But I have maybe 35k left in my current tires. This size becomes too heavy in the AT4W format. If they stop making at3w, I will move on to something else

Just bought the Faulken at4 w 265/70/18 I like them yes there heavy trying to find a good PSI to run I’m at 40 in the front 38 in the back I may increase to help with rolling resistance any recommendations. Thanks 2017 F 150 4 by 4

On a pervious video you reviewed the AT4 and I believe you said ot was 58lbs The model I'm looking into getting is I believe the same model you reviewed. 17" 28844913 P285/70R17 SL 116T Standard Online at Falken website, it shows it weighs 53.4lbs. I'm up in the air between the new AT4 or the AT3 in the same spec SL model 285/70/17 for my tacoma.

My BFG Ko2 are already need replacing and they are only @ 26,000 warranty for 50.000 but not happy !!!

I don't think the BF Goodrich KO3 are released on North America. You can get three sizes right now at Discount Tire and Tire Rack, but at the web page of BF Goodrich you cannot find any information there, so I think they are not release yet. I really want the BF Goodrich KO3 because the sidewalls are reinforce, they are affective in special with sidewalks that are tall and also very small parking space for a F150. I like the look and to be honest. I have put one set of four tires close to 70k miles not issue. I am currently on my second set of four tires, pretty close at 50K miles not issue at all. I do not know off road a lot but on Michigan they make are great on heavy snow, plus the ride is very good.

Id like your thoughts on the Cooper AT3, specifically for the occasional off roader...the camper or fire road people you've mentioned, who spends 95% on roads - in Wisconsin - I had these in Florida, and was surprised at their noise to appearance ratio. They looked nice, but were quiet. Are these ok on snow and snowy roads...or should I stick with something else? '23 1500 silverado LT 4x4

I need a new set for my Dodge 2500, between the Ko3 and AT4W which would you choose? Ko3 in a 315-70r17 looks like they will be F rated the AT4W will be a E rated in a 35. I don't tow super heavy but I do tow often and am in the 550hp territory. Just curios on your thoughts, I got 55k out of my last set of Ko2s but I've heard they went down hill from when I got them after they come out.

I am looking to replace my KO2s on my JLU. So far I run the KO2s on my jeep and F150 and love them. You mention the Baja Boss AT during this comparison multiple times. How are its road manners; steering response, noise compared to the KO2. My jeep is ~50/50 on, offroad.

@outdoorauto do you have any info on sidewall ratings? Gonna shop for tires soon for a LR Defender. Contemplating sidewall strength for weight trade off. I don't know what is overkill for an suv that might be offroad twice a year.

Was trying to check out the KO3 here in Canada, and according to the BFG website that tire is currently a GM and Ford exclusive OE tire. Available on all of three trucks lol. So if I want KO3’s then I need to buy a new Raptor, Sierra or Silverado. Like… what??? 🤷‍♂️🤣

Right now I don't know which to choose. I've had ko2 for years but I'm liking those at4w's. The only reason I would go at4w right now is because ko3 only have two different sizes and there's no telling when they come out with more options

How about hankook dynapro at extreme? 90% city/ highway 10% off-road… the wildpeak at4w is so heavy that mpg will likely be poor..the wildpeak at3 is discontinued confirmed. So getting the 3 now can happen but if you need another one or 2 in a year they may not be avail? The ko3 I worry won’t be a good road tire

Really appreciate your approach to reviewing tires. My question is why do folks talk about 32, 33, 35 inch or what ever when tires have specific sizes such as 275/65x18"? Yes, some are 12x35 or whatever, but, tires sizes change by millimetres, not inches.

Because tires are a wonderfully hateful mix of metric and imperial measurements with a math problem thrown in for good measure. But mostly tire manufacturers still group tires by overall 'height' in inches even though the vast majority of tires are in millimeters just so you don't have to do math to know if it should fit under a fender well.

The more I read it appears to me it's the off-road world that talks overall tire diameter. If their new truck comes with 33" they want 35"...or 40". Seem to forget all your all your comments regarding increasing unsprung weight and the gearing issues.@@spiv_gennedy

Toyota & Nitto both make LRF. At4w being a harder rubber compound will be awfull in the cold! Cupping is lack of rotation!

Where I live in Canada, salt is used and I drive fifty miles a day. What happens is initially you drive through deep snow, then icy snow and finally you plow through slush which is the worst. I want a tire that performs in these conditions and doesn't hydroplane in slush. Perhaps a dedicated snow tire is best, or maybe pizza cutters. Any advice is welcomed.

Upvoting so this gets to the top. Sounds like the Wildpeak RT *should* fill that gap as the most logical tire. The AT4W went more heavy duty with better mud performance. I need a tire that takes the AT3 and does slightly better on pavement, sound, and mileage but keep the greatness of performing in snow, ice, and rain.

You mention not running the A/T4W on a Tacoma (14:55) due to its weight. I'm wondering exactly this for myself, running the 255/85R16 (difficult size to find but a true 33" that can fit on a mild lift). Do you think re-gearing to 4.88's would negate the negative impact of running this relative behemoth (48#/33") of a tire? Thanks!

A stock tacoma should be regeared to 4.88’s. If youre gonna add weight and a true 33 id regear to 5.29. Search nitro gears on youtube and they have a few videos where they re gear their stock white tacoma. Im gonna regear to 4.88’s with a 265/70/R17. Trying to find discontinued falken at3’s. They have better siping than the at4 falkens

same here. lower profile brand and many sizes are not yet in production. only come on line a couple months ago. i asked about my size (265/75/16) and was told they won't even be made until 2025.

I snagged a set of at4 couple months ago when they first came out for my GX. Thing is great. Looks beautiful. (I’ve had ko2 before totally waited for ko3. Couldn’t keep waiting) might be a falken fan now

@@repoilify They were great in the winter. I haven’t offroaded with them yet. I don’t off-road much. Just summer beach driving with the kids. So far I prefer them. Only down side is the ko2 looks meaner and is def beefier. The same size would’ve rubbed very slightly on my vehicle. Was actually ready to address that. As I had ko2 before. But turns out these dont.

I don't think the Wildpeak AT4W is supposed to replace the AT3W, it's more of an alternative with both serving kinda the same purpose but with different main focus. After all there is no such thing like a perfect tire, it is allways a compromise we/you have to choose.

looking forward to Duratrac RT review! I have had to original duratrac and at3w and in deep snow the duratrac was unstoppable and better than the at3w. However the on road performance of the at3w was better than duratrac.

It's not exactly fair to say the BFG has been out 14 years...they did change the tire compound over the run so it's not exactly the same now as when it was launched. Same name but not the same wear and performance.

wildpeak at3w is better on lighter trucks i bet...the at4w seems better for alot of offroad stuff and towing....i have a 2006 mdx.. and considering at3w vs hankook dynapro extreme

Here is a comparison on tire dimensions from the manufacturers sites - for the BFG KO2 Falken AT/3W & AT/4W: 265/70R16 - KO2 30.6 Dia, 10.7 Width, 50.6 lbs / AT/3W 30.6 dia, 10.8 width, 42.3 lbs / AT/4W 30.6 dia, 10.7 width, 51lbs. neither of the Falken are LT's in the 70 size, they do offer the LT in 265/75R16 - AT/3W 31.7 dia, 10.4 width, 52.5 lbs / 31.9 dia, 10.8 width, 53lbs / BFG KO2 31.7 dia, 10.5 width, 53.7 lbs - Where you find the biggest differences is when you get into the oversize tires like the LT 285/75R16 (33's) - KO2 & AT/3W same 32.8 dia, AT/4W is 33.1 dia width is different for each - AT/3W is 11.1, KO2 is 11.3 & AT/4W is 11.6 - same with the weight KO2 58.5 / AT/3W 60.6 / AT/4W 62.6

Looking to do KO3 or Toyo ATIII. 295/70/18 or 285/70/18 on my tundra. Mostly on road driving. Occasional off-road on light trials, dirt roads. What one should I go with? Live in the NE so so have to deal with snow/Ice.

Is the KO2 really that bad? I really like the look of them, and I have the stock dunlops that I need to change out because they’re at 35000 miles and hydroplane a lot. Like way too easily. Is the KO2 worse?

The Ko2 is a phenomenal tire... its weakness is wet roads and ice... but in basically every other category it is probably top ten if not top 3... even mud... it isn't great but no AT tire is amazing at mud. Even in Wet and Ice it isn't bottom of the pack... so no it isn't "that bad" its really good... but people love to hate on a market leader and some of the criticism, while overblown, is warranted.

I'd love for him too. I'm in between the Nokian Outpost nAT (as the expensive tire) and the Milestar Patagonia A/T Pro (as the inexpensive tire) for my 1/2 ton silverado. Both USA manufactured also. The Nokian in TN, can't fine the information where the Milestar is manufactured at in the states.

I agree, BFG made a huge mistake delaying the release of the TA/KO3. Not like they haven't had over a decade to perfect it. Now that the competition has caught up and even surpassed BFG, idk if the KO3 will be enough to warrant my loyalty when it does finally come out in regular sizes. The Falken AT4W is looking like a big winner right now, but they're not without fault either. Why can't they do tri-ply sidewalls in all sizes? BFG did that with KO2 with great success. Really the only thing keeping me from immediately purchasing a set, the size I want doesn't have tri-ply. Maybe I should take another look at the Mickey...

Isn't it funny how there is never a "perfect" tire? One thing BFG did better then anybody was tough sidewalls... yet somehow flexible and not that heavy... that is a pretty amazing thing to pull off. But.... they need to get these new tires out and we need to know the sizes.

I'm there with you. Ive had KO2 and want something of the similar durability, good road manners, but just a bit better in muddy conditions. Unreal how many tires either don't come in my stock 265/75r16 or they're just 2 ply sidewall, even though they are in RT category. Thought I would go with Toyo RT trail, until I found out they're 2 ply. Now Falken does the same thing...so Baja Boss it just might be, or I may just buy KO2 again.

What I determined is bfg ko3 is for the 35% off road and 65 percent on road. The at4w are 50% off road and 50% on road. Then the baja boss are 65% off road and 35% on road. Just my opinion

Newbie here! I just bought the AT4Ws for my 2022 4Runner SR5P in 65/70r17. I beleive the load I got is running at 47lbs. Is that still a heavy tire to be running on a 4runner? Anyone got any insight?
