For the exception of beginners, I believe that the luck of the dice, plays a very big part in determining a match, against ANY player, once you've learned how to move around the board, with a full understanding of how the game the game is played. Having said that, the more doubles that a player rolls, the more likely they are, of winning. No matter who they face. Therefore, Anyone can bite the dust depending on the roll of the dice.
@bennemann
@bennemann 9 ай бұрын
That is true. Magriel mentions in his seminal book from 1973 that part of the fascination of backgammon is how a beginner can beat a world-class expert if their difference in luck is great enough. The expert's higher skill can minimize the chance of this happening and stack the odds in his favor, but that's all it is: stacking the odds. It's not guaranteeing the odds. This is why matches of backgammon last several rounds: the more rounds, the less influence luck has, and the more the skill difference can shine through.

At 14:28 he throws a 2 and a 4. Then he proceeds by moving 2 checkers from point 2. How does that work? Can you split a 4 over two checkers? And a little after that the game ends. Why? I'm sure you've learnt this by now but during the bare off in this situation for example, since he has no checkers in the 4 point, 5 point or 6 point he is forced to take a checker off of the 2 point. if he had no checkers in the 4 point but a checker in the 5 point he would be forced to move the checker from 5 - 1

@Codename: Rebirth.Ok let's analyze the first game. 0:17 The girl plays wrong 4/3, you don't play on 24/21. you play on 24/20 and on 13/10. 0:42 The doubles that the Vietcong plays are: the first two correctly but then he has to play one of his checkers from 24/20. 1:10 the 6/6 that the warrior plays are wrong. He has to take two of his checkers from 13/7 and from 11/5 so that it makes five doors and game over. 10:00 he thinks for a minute how he will play 6/4. Fortunately after a minute, a miracle happened and he played it right 11:35 Two minutes he thought how will play 5/3. Luckily after 2 fucking minutes he played well again. How long does it takes to think about this simple movement? .Competitors.Are you listen to me?? Change the fucken rules.Our nerves are broken 13:25 wrong playing by the girl. not from 12 /4 one checker. You have to play from 12/8 one checker and from 4/1 the other. why? Because if girls dice has 5 or 6 in the next throw she will not be forced to take the checker that threatens the opponent in his area, which he did, of course.hahahah. Because brinking the vietkogk 3/1,4/1,5/1,6/1,his checker will be exposed. Tragiiiiiiicccccccccc After my words ,you believe tha the first game was good??? Bye

I am new to this game and wanted to know why they beared off their checkers the way they wanted at the end of the round? I've read that there are very strict rules of how player must bear off checkers. For example: if my dice were 2 and 3; and I have a checker at 3, then I must bear off that checker. And if I haven't got any checkers on 2nd triangle, then I must move the checker that is closest to the 2nd triangle, but further away from the border of the game board. Did I misunderstood the rules? Can you please explain? :)
@tgwnn
@tgwnn 11 ай бұрын
No you don't need to bear off a checker from the 3 point. If you can move another checker with a 3, you can do it. Or sometimes you can move the checker off the 3 with a smaller roll and bear off something else. The only strict rule is that if there is a move that uses both dice, you must make it.

How do people improve at backgammon? I can't find coaches, learning websites, or even 1 person that knows how to play. Shouldn't you be able to play stronger people to improve like in chess? But where are the players? It seems like no one plays backgammon. I've seen more Pokemon Trading Card and even Smash Bros. Melee tournaments than backgammon

I play at this site cardgames.io/backgammon/ You get to play against the computer or other people (recommended, because the computer makes some questionable moves). It's no frills but simple and straightforward. The dice rolls feel pretty random. You can give yourself a name, and you'll see some of the same people show up regularly. It's also really easy to set up a match. Most of the people you'll face play quickly enough that you can finish a game in 8-10 minutes. Many of the players there are good, and I've gotten to see, and try out, different styles of play.

You can move and reverse your moves so long as it's still your turn. Usually the end of your turn is indicated by you picking up your set of dice (as backgammon comes with a set for each player) but as they are sharing the set, it is indicated by them punching the clock (or what I assume to be a player's clock, but can't be certain as it's off screen).

You disagree with the rule of allowing more than 5 checkers on one point? But that IS the rule in standard backgammon. The 5-limit is not played by many people, and it has disadvantages later in the game, where it can prevent and turnaround by stopping the winning player from exposing a checker in the bear-off. Also, stacking 5 or more on one point is mostly a disadvantage strategically, as any backgammon Grandmaster will tell you! And, believe me, they KNOW the "unknown unknowns" of fun-players ;-)
