Visited the National Railroad Museum in June 2024. The museum is well organized, well run and is well maintained. Was a great time.
This visit was part of our larger tour through Wisconsin and UP Michigan:

@johnbanicki7232 NRM was definitely worth the stop. Seeing the GG1 was pretty cool. Pennsy fans have a lot to look back on and be proud of.

@irishfaire Thanks! We did... The railroad museum was pretty awesome. Has to be one of the top 5 or 10 in the country. But I have to admit... the Legendary Tour at Lambeau Field was the highlight of the Green Bay stop!

This was a great tour! I hope one day Frisco can get to this stage too. They also have a GG1 by the way. "Bust my buffers." 😂 They have a very impressive collection there.

@TwoRailfans I agree. It would be nice to see a roof over those pieces at Frisco. Do they not have shelter down there for any of their collection? I need to get down there. I'd heard about a GG1 at Frisco. It seems odd for something to be so far from home. But then the Dwight D. Eisenhower and the GG1 at Green Bay... "Bust my buffers" comes naturally having been exposed when Milo was much younger... Sort of surreal to see equipment adorned that way here here in the middle of the USA!!!

@@blackhillsandeasternrailroad the long term plans include a roof, but at this time everything is still sitting outside. The just recently within the past 1.5 years extended the tracks to the end of the property and added concrete walkways. I'm not sure if the planned roof with be a fully enclosed building or not, or how far into the future that might be. Progress is being made but it is VERY slow and the Texas sun is brutal. I was surprised to see a GG1 too, but the collection they have is pretty diverse.

cool place and a nice tour :) i would guess the FM was a VO-1000 and the alco was a century class, could be wrong.

@mysticrailroad The platforms built so you could tour the car interiors and locomotive cabs really upped the value of the visit. I'll go with your assessment on the FM and the Alco. And you might be right to mention the Century class. Alco lasted a bit longer than I was thinking when I made that comment.

ha I already found that I'm wrong about the FM- the VO-1000 was a Baldwin so I'm not sure what that FM was...maybe a trainmaster H-24-66. I will make it to that place eventually!

@@mysticrailroad It is easy to confuse FM with Baldwin. Neither had very much success in the North American diesel locomotive market. They both ended at about the same time too.

Nice video, witty. So much great equipment and in excellent condition! C430? How much equipment is operational and how much track to run? Do they offer a take the throttle option? LIKE 👍

@rickdee67 Glad you enjoyed the video! Not sure, but I'm guessing all of the steam engines have been stuffed and mounted. I like that the most valuable parts of the collection are under a roof! We moved on from the museum pretty quickly, even though it was outstanding! Didn't find out if there was an 'at the throttle' option, but I'm guessing not. The museum operates a loop of track around the perimeter of the grounds. That GBW S-1 was the only loco running while we were there. My guess is that M&St.L SW engine runs too and maybe that CN E unit?

GBW #315 looks to be an Alco C-430.

@garymartz7587 Interesting... so from my limited understanding of alco model numbering, 'C'entury series 4 axle, 3000 horsepower. This was one of Alco's last gasps, correct? Would have competed with the GP40/GP40-2 and the B30-7. 3k was approaching the limits of how much horsepower could be applied the rails with four axles.

@@blackhillsandeasternrailroad I'm no expert on Alco's. I do believe you are correct. Our local rail line WNY&P has four such models operating one of which is painted in LA&L. I understand their days are becoming numbered.

@garymartz7587 I looked up WNY&P, having never heard of it. Looks like a super interesting line & roster. A few ginormous GE engines and a bunch of ancient Alco power. What fun to model!
