Bhairab dance (commonly known as Bhaila Pyakhan in Newar community) is the typical Newari Traditional Cultural Dance of Bhaktapur Nepal. Bhaila Pyakhan ( Bhairab Dance ) is a traditional cultural Mask dance of Bhaktapur Nepal. Bhaila Pyakhan ( Bhairab Dance ) is started at the time of Gaijatra (festival of Nepal) in Bhaktapur till Shree Krishna Janmastami. The mask dancers of Bhairb, Mahakali, Barahi, Kumari, Baishnabi, Betals, and others are performed the Bhairab Dance. Bhairab dance is the typical Newari Traditional Cultural Dance of Bhaktapur. The Bhairav, Mahakali, Barahi, Kumari, Bishnavi are played main role in this dance. Bhairab Pyakhan (Bhairab Naach) is an ancient masked dance performed by Newar community in the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal. Bhaktapur is also known as the “capital city of cultural dances, cultural and historical heritages”. There are many traditional cultural dances in Bhaktapur. Among them, mask dances are one of the most popular in Bhaktapur and the Bhaila Pyakhan or Bhairab Dance is most popular. Almost all of the traditional dances follow some kind of legend and traditional beliefs and same with the Bhaila Pyakhan (Bhairab Dance). The legend behind the Bhairav Dance goes as follows. Hundreds of years back, the evil forces and beings, Bhoot, Pisach andRakshasa, started to dominate the world. The evil beings, Daityas started destroying humans and the natural balance was threatened. Then the god Bhairava came down to earth with other divine bodies to destroy those evil beings for restoring peace and to maintain the natural balance. Bhaktapur Travel Jatra.
