12:55 - I feel it may be wrong of the Bhante to say that just because modern scientists say there is no such thing as the mind; that there is only a body and what we call the mind is just an activity of the body ...and therefore no mind, no self etc.. But just because scientists can't find it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. As Greg Koukl wrote: It's like the man looking for the invisible rabbit. He said, I have looked high and low and I can't find it, therefore it doesn't exist. If there are invisible rabbits, you are not going to find them anywhere. Why not? They are invisible. That doesn't prove they do exist, it just simply points out that you can't disqualify the existence of something by looking for it in a way that won't turn it up. You don't look for the mind in the brain and try to find a location for it because the mind is not something physical by definition . You can't conclude that it doesn't exist because you haven't found it after a century of looking. You don't find it that way. Peace

you think about this yourself.. don't get scientist's word.. the dhamma that was said by Lord Buddha can be understood by ourself. scientist's words are going to change day by day. how can we believe it. if you want to overcome your difficulties and get freedom and pleasure we should control our mind and maintain it . without mind we can't take an idea when there is no mind.

He seems to imply belief in rebirth, yet he mentions the mind as an activity of the body. Seems somewhat contradictory.

@@Ven.D.BUDDHARAKKHITHA Bhante expounds the nature of the mind that is actually the combination of body senses and brain activities which effecting electro magnetic field around any living beings, thus made imprints in the field like tape recording. These imprint will ripple like water wave as nature phenomena which is not self nor mind. This phenomena is carried on as long as a person continues to creates thought action and speech whether good or bad. When the man died the electro magnetic wave that so created by that person wil keep carry on even the body was dead but the phenomenal continues on and this is what conventional theistic thought believe that this is the mind or soul or what ever name that they can think of. So there is no mind it is just natural phenomena created by living things that have 5 senses to response to the environments both from without or within. During Buddha time no one understand about electro magnetic field like nowaday so the Buddha used analogy of lighted candle from one candle to the unlighted one and next one and so on. This is pure activity of passing on of conditions to the next. Life is always dynamic and is only a conventional experiece not an ultimate.

@@luvsuneja Ofcourse he implies of conventional rebirth. He actually did'nt explain about the imprint of electro megnatic field around everyone of us (he knew exactly what he is talking about) that can record and carry our thought, action and speech as natural phenomenal after the body died. Those imprints still carry on the opinion of self along with the person because of the attachment thus creates another form for that paticular experiencial world he is in wether its good or bad. This sustained phenomenal after person died made anyone who don't understand the Buddha teaching will assume that there must be the mind or soul that carry on but to the contrary it is actually the continuity of the specific condition called attachment of the excisting. It is not mind nor soul.

If nibbana is to be experienced then what does the Buddha say about the nature of that which experiences it if there is no self and existence is simply an illusion? I’ve never heard anyone explain this in a way that makes any sense. It sounds as if we live in an illusion and the one who experiences the illusion doesn’t actually exist! You say our own mind is the creator but then you say the mind does not exist! So what are we and why does anything matter? No self, no soul, no mind and existence is an illusion in which all we have is a body that dies and rots. Where does that leave us? Seems pointless.
