The government should rename the Teesta project as "Monga Alleviation Project " excluding the name Teesta from the project. That will automatically exclude India's attempt to enter in this project .

How Bay of Bengal is within the indian sphere of influence. There are many other countries around the Bay of Bengal. So its a wrong statement by the foreign secretary.

The strange matter here is why India wants to go into the Teesta project ? India is not going to increase the water flow of Teesta river and will continue to divert water on the upstream as usual and that has been clearly stated by the west Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee when she said she has the love for Bangladesh but she can not agree to implement the Teesta water sharing agreement. So , the matter is closed. Now the Teesta Project which is under progress is a completely different matter and India should have no business what so ever in this project. The proposed Teesta project is about storing the flood water which comes into Bangladesh during the monsoon period and when india opens all the gates of Teesta barrage to save that part of india from flooding. Under the Teesta project China will build number of water reservoirs along the Teesta river far inside Bangladesh and far away from the Teesta entry point in Bangladesh. These stored water in the reservoir would be used during the summer time for cultivation. So the poor people of north Bengal can earn their living. Alongside these canal shaped reservoir there will be small industries built which will create the opportunity for employment for the people of north Bengal. China has done the detail study on this project for two years and already completed their project plan to the bangladesh government long ago. So the clear question is how this is going to affect India in any way ? Bangladesh is an independent country. What Bangladesh does inside its own territory is none of India’s business like what india does in Kolkata is none of Bangladesh’s business. So why India suddenly wants to jump into the Teesta project now after maintaining more than a decade of silence on Teesta issue ? in fact it can not named as teesta project anymore , it should be named differently to make sense for the people of north bengal. The project should be named as “Monga Alleviation Project” instead of Teesta project , so the very name of Teesta will not be there and India will have nothing to tag Teesta river onto the project. The government should immediately rename it as “Monga Alleviation Project” and get rid of the name Teesta from this project.
