Those commentators are so biased. It’s never the Bianca beating up Serena but it’s Serena not playing well. Did it occur to them that those unforced errors of hers is because how the opponent plays? She made errors because she couldn’t figure out how to stop Bianca’s returns. All those double faults are because she was trying so hard to ace her serve for a fast point. When you go for an ace, your margin for error is extremely low hence the double faults.

I just re-watched this match for the first time, Serena played better in that first set than I remember. She had two game points in the opening game, hit an ace that was called back for a let. The rest of the set was high level play by both. She hit more winners than errors and still lost the set. You probably could count on one hand the times that has happened in her entire career. I think after dropping the first set nerves took over in the second. Give credit to Andreescu her level never dropped and that crowd was feverishly behind Serena. Very happy for Bianca winning the US Open. It's refreshing to see so many different women players winning the Grand Slams. I can understand New Yorkers rooting for Serena. But I can't find myself rooting for her because of her poor behavior at some of the US Open matches. Serena cannot seem to get past given a warning or penalized a point. When that happens, she constantly berates the lines people or officials. She did so when she played Stosur during the 2011 finals. It happened when she played Clisters at the 2009 SF US Open. Most recently, against Osaka , during the 2018 US Open finals. Sadly, Serena has NEVER apologized for her behavior during those matches. What's amazing is, people keep rooting for her. Good for Bianca. Glad she kept her composure and won.

She has to find excuses for losing. A bad sport, ultimately. Everything has to be about HER, as seen in the way she tried to take the spotlight from poor Osaka when Osaka beat her in the US Open finals.
@kieranarmstrongproductions47433 жыл бұрын
Take the spotlight? The same ref who didn’t take a point away from Kyrgios for saying ‘bitch’ took a game from her for saying ‘thief’. She stopped the crowd from booing during the award ceremony AND Osaka said she consoled her after the match and called her at home to congratulate her personally. I can’t stand this constant double standard. She’s always complimenting her opponents even when she loses, she outright said Osaka played a brilliant match.

Anonymous Serena literally apologized after the Naomi match dude. And Djokovic hit somebody in the throat today with a tennis ball and people are trying to justify it. The double standard is jarring

@@footfault she is the top athlete in women's sport period. Nothing you say can change that and she can have a bad moment just like any other human or several bad moments to say she is finds excuses? how do you explain her career? all her championships not growing up being groomed in these elite tennis camp's with well a well off family but from COMPTON California. STFU I don't excuse her behavior nor do I excuse any other athlete who chucks a racket, commits flagrant fouls, fights or gets ejected from a game. oh wait that's always men right!

Bianca up 5 to 1 in the second set thinks "maybe I'll take my foot off of Serena's neck and let the crowd get more for their money by letting her catch up to five all." Then she says "ok, playtime's over" and promptly destroyed Serena.

This is to those that are saying that Serena has reached the end and that she's on her last leg. I've been watching tennis for a long time, even before the sisters came into the picture. I'm also a fan of Serena, but I'm sorry man the "Old Man Time" excuse doesn't apply to Serena yet. She's still as quick and as strong as ever. She beat most of the players soundly throughout this tournament and she's even playing smarter, cleaner and more accurate tennis now more than ever. Even before this US Open, she basically got her revenge as she handily beat Osaka at the Rogers Cup which shows that she hasn't diminished. As Chris Evert mentioned though, Serena has not faced anyone yet in the tournament with as much firepower until she faced Bianca. In this match, Serena was simply OUT POWERED AND OUT GUNNED by a player that hits as hard maybe sometimes even harder than her. Bianca is only 5'7 but is very strong and built like a brickhouse much like Serena is. Serena is still the queen of ripping winners from just about anywhere and in sometimes very awkward positions. But when Bianca is set and has time, she can also produce some amazing shots. Bianca only did 2 drop shots in this match when she normally does more than 5 in any other match is because Bianca realized that Serena can still get to the net very quickly even from behind the baseline. The fact that it takes about 3 more strides for Bianca than Serena to get to a ball is even more telling that the balls that whizzed by Serena was just hit with raw power from Bianca. Serena was getting praised everywhere and from every commentator of her current form and fitness before she lost and that it was pretty much a given that she would win the final. Credit has to be given when credit is due, and people are gonna have to give credit to Bianca's game and execution in this final. Serena basically got rattled by Bianca's power and started pushing, especially the first serves. Anything below 115 mph came back at Serena with authority and her second serves were just clobbered by Bianca. As Mary Jo Fernandez said, the elephant in the room was mostly Bianca and least likely the "weight of winning a 24th". Bianca is also one of the only, if not the only player around her height that can hit clean winners ABOUT 3 FT. FROM BEHIND THE BASELINE. Now that's some strength and power. People just have to accept the fact that a new, very talented and exciting player with a high tennis IQ that also has all the weapons has come into the scene. I just hope her injuries don't get the best of her. Just my 2 cents, peace...

All good and interesting points. But you still have to distinguish forward mobility (in the sagittal plane) and lateral mobility (in the coronal plane, sideways in popular parlance). To me, it is undeniable that Serena Williams has lost a huge amount of sideways mobility. In fact she never had the mobility of her sister Venus. You can see that clearly in the very last game of this match. She lets Bianca's returns whizz by her without making the least semblance of an effort to move towards the trajectory of the ball. Simona Halep would have been on that ball as if radar-guided. The surest way, and perhaps the only way to beat Serena (except when she beats herself) is to hit the ball where she is not, and oblige her to move towards the ball and hit on the run or off balance. Bianca Andreescu herself admitted to this when she explained in her after-match conference that her strategy had been to make Serena "work" for every point, that is first of all force her to move towards the ball, which mostly means laterally. And, what is amazing is that Andreescu didn't follow this principle systematically. At times she hit the ball directly into Williams's position, even into Serena's racket, when Bianca had the court all open to the side. Those were crying mistakes, and every time Andreescu lost the point. Of course, in the heat of instant response, it may not be possible to hit otherwise. As we saw in that great exchange of volleys at the net in the 3d game of the first set, when, after Bianca's dropshot, Serena proved that her reflexes could still be very good, to the exuberant joy of the crowd.
