So does farsi have the same possessive form as Turkish. For example in Turkish. "Can (pronounced like the name John)" means soul or dear, but "Canim" means "my dear." Is it the same in Farsi?

Thanks to internet and Google search, anyone can lookup Sistan (Sijistan) and read up on it. Ancient Sistan region included eastern Iran (sistan-Baluchistan) and Southern Afghanistan (Helmand, Nimroz and much of Kandahar) with its nucleus between Helmand Valley in Helmand and Zaranj in Nimroz. Sistan doesn't include any part of modern day Pakistan. Stop embarrassing yourself... trying hard to be wanna be Iranic. Pakistanis are predominantly Indic people, and have always remained an integral part of Hindustan, geographically, culturally, and historically. Ofcourse today Pakistan has an identity of it's own as an independent Muslim majority country separate from present day India, but why deny your roots? I'm sure if you say to Iranians or Afghans or anyone who has read even a little bit of history that sistan is present day Pakistan, they will laughter at your face.

There is a lot of confusion here guys, this song is Dari. I have an Iranian friend and when I told her to listen this song she was like no this is not farsi. This is Dari which is a Darbari language. A formal way of farsi (court language) which is used in courts like a really high class farsi. The ones who speak Dari can understand farsi but Iranians somehow can't understand Dari. They are both 2 different languages. People in Balochistan which is right next to Iran speaks Farsi In Pakistan and some of the Afghans who have moved to Pakistan speaks Dari. However, 70% of Afghans speaks Pashto as their language and the rest 30% speaks Dari, Tajiki, Uzbek and others. KPK and Balochistan were the parts of Persian Empire before British snatched them and put them in British Indian Raj. When Pakistan was made these 2 provinces came into Pakistan and still people who live in these provinces speak their own language. Basically Persian is spoken in some parts of Pakistan which are closer to Iran and Dari is spoken in the parts which are closer to Afghanistan.

Pashto and Dari (Afghan Persian/Farsi) are the official languages of Afghanistan. Pashto was declared the National Language of the country during the beginning of Zahir Shah's reign, however, Dari has always been used for business and government transactions. Both belong to the Indo-European group of languages. According to recent US government estimates, approximately 35 percent of the Afghan population speaks Pashto, and about 50 percent speaks Dari. Turkic languages (Uzbek and Turkmen) are spoken by about 11 percent of the population. There are also numerous other languages spoken in the country (Baluchi, Pashai, Nuristani, etc.), and bilingualism is very common. Both Pashto and Dari are written primarily with the Arabic alphabet, however, there are some modifications. Pashto literature saw a massive rise in development in the 17th century, mostly due to poets like Khushal Khan Khattak, who is known today as the national poet of Afghanistan. Other noteworthy Pashto poets in history were Rahman Baba, and the founder of the modern Afghan nation, Ahmad Shah Abdali. Dari also has an extensive literature, actually, some of the worlds greatest poems have been written in Dari. Dari poems by Jalaluddin Rumi have been translated from its original Dari versions to numerous other languages, and is widely read even in the west. Many powerful kingdoms of the past such as those of the Moghuls in India, primarily used Dari in their royal courts.

I know the confusion coz I teach in a school with some Iranian and Afghani students. Dari and Farsi have similarities like Hindi and Urdu. Both Dari and Farsi are two dialects of the same language, holding the status of different languages. the grammatical basis are same but there is some difference in pronunciations, vocabulary and syntax, so some things the speakers understand of each other and some not. Same is the case if Urdu and Hindi.

Dari/Farsi is the formal language of Afghanistan and half of the population in Afghanistan speak it. The difference between Dari and Farsi is just like the difference between British and American English
