This is one of the oddest passages in the bible. This is the most controversial subject yet, but I won't shy away from analyzing it. I take a comprehensive look at this passage and analyze it using the tools of letting the bible interpret itself, parallels, themes and of course using connections. Please like, share, and subscribe so I can continue to connect the Word of God.
The bible is the inerrant Word of God, on this channel we believe that the Bible is the truth. Although it was written by 40 different human authors, there was one common ghost writer and that is The Holy Spirit which inspired all of them. This channel tries to stay away from theology but instead focuses on a unique Bible Study approach by connecting the bible as a whole book using tools such as typology, parallelisms, and multiple-layered contextualized connections. Yes, God can operate on different levels at the same time, to mean more than one thing at the same time.
I enjoy a deep dive Bible Study, and always will cite scripture to back up the conclusions.

@@Hild1 yes that’s true, whatever Ham did was terrible, people have used this to justify racism but the races were created at the Tower of Babel….another result of rebellion. The curse of Canaan seems to follow the canaanites where all the Nephilim nations came from in the promised land. Ham was immediately and completely cut off from the family-that's as bad as a curse gets. And you can apply that lesson to the covenant of circumcision-if Israel walked away from God and His ways, they would be cut off-just as the circumcision if a symbol of a man's future lineage being cut off. Life, hope, and future are all in God's hands, not ours.

You may have gone down the wrong rabbit hole. There are so many things wrong with your analysis that I can't begin to list them. But the most logical thing you fail to consider is time element: The Bible says Noah "began to be a farmer" and he planted a vineyard. So stop there -- How long after leaving the ark did Noah decide to "become" a farmer and plant a vineyard -- one year, two, 10, 15...? Then, also how long after that would it take for the vineyard to produce grapes... one year... two years? I bring this up because you mentioned there were "only 8 persons saved on the ark" -- which is true, but wouldn't it be logical that Noah's sons and their wives began to have children after leaving the ark -- which means by the time of Noah's unfortunate incident there were more than three males on the earth? Another thing you forget to consider is that in the Bible grandsons were often referred to as "sons." Genesis 10:6 states the sons of Ham were Cush, Mizriam, Put, and Canaan -- so Canaan would be Ham's youngest son and thus Noah's "youngest son." So when Noah awoke and realized what his "younger son" (or grandson) had done is more likely referring to his grandson Canaan -- the son of Ham. Logical sequence of events -- so when Ham happened to walk into his father's tent and saw his father naked, he went and got his brothers, so that the two of them could cover their father's nakedness. They walked backwards and Ham may have "guided them" -- otherwise they would have seen Noah naked also. Another thing you failed to consider is that Genesis 9:18 names Noah's sons, and Genesis 9:19 states: "THESE THREE" were the sons of Noah, and "FROM THESE" the whole earth was populated. Then, one of the most profound statement that you seem to overlook is that "God cursed Canaan." Does it make sense to you that God would curse Canaan for something Ham did and not mention Ham at all? You've made this into an unnecessary soap opera -- when it didn't have to be. If there was some untoward deed such as Ham raping his own mother and having a child, the Bible would have told the story -- just as it did all of the other sordid tales -- Lot's daughters raping him and bearing sons; the men of Sodom trying to rape the two angels that came into Lot's house; Reuben raping his father's concubine; Judah thinking Tamar was a prostitute; David and Bathsheba and what he did to Uriah the Hittite; David's son Amnon raping his sister Tamar... the Bible will tell us what happened, we don't need made up stories... Selah

@@hayride5953 It is perfectly okay to disagree w/me since I'm in no way a Bible scholar. I'm not sure why they had to walk backward -- maybe the blanket WAS see-through as you mentioned (lol). Maybe to show respect -- I really don't know. I may, out of curiosity, go back to the book of Leviticus where God listed a lot of the "do not do's, do this" and see if maybe there was a regulation of some kind stating what to do if you accidentally happened upon a naked, drunk parent...

I wondered about this and thought there had to be more facts to the incident. This is amazing. We, as believers in the scriptures, need to quit looking at the Bible in a fairytale like manner and start looking at it as real events, which happened in history and encompasses a much larger message. The information contained is not just random information. It is a guidebook for us to find our Heavenly Father through is Son, our Redeemer.

I don't think this story is about incest, it's about dishonoring father and mother, which is also a capital sin. Western culture puts no emphasis on dishonoring a part but God says it's extreme ly serious. Ham made fun of his father when he talked to his brothers,he dishonoured him and shamed him. Noah knew God's laws and knew how God would react and simply prophesied to that fact.

And Noah began to be a farmer, and he planted a vineyard. 21Then he drank of the wine and was drunk, and became uncovered in his tent. 22And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brothers outside. (NKJV) In this text we discover: 1) Noah became a farmer. 2) Noah planted a vineyard. 3) Noah drank of the wine. 4) Noah got drunk. 5) Noah got naked. Then in v. 22, we read that Ham saw his father’s nakedness. If this is to be taken as Ham raping his mother, why all the detail of Noah getting drunk and naked? All of that could have been skipped for it would have had nothing to do with Ham’s offense. Furthermore, if uncovering the nakedness of one’s father is “code” for having sex with one’s father’s wife, how come it is written that Noah’s other two sons put a garment on their shoulders and walked backward into Noah’s tent so as not to see their father’s nakedness? Are we to interpret that as meaning that Shem and Japheth walked into their father’s tent backwards so that they would not commit incest with their mother? And, given the nature of the crime of incest, it is doubtful that Ham would have told his brothers about it. Also note that when Noah sobered up, he realized what his son had done to him. Ham did something and he did it to Noah, not Noah’s wife. Ham was likely a sexual deviant of some sort. He DID something to Noah. He did not accidently walk into Noah’s tent. It is also important to note that once Noah sobered up and realized what his son had done to him, he issued the blessings/curses. Your insistence that this was an end-of-life blessing is without Scriptural foundation. Yes, other blessings were recorded as end-of-life blessings, but we cannot force that pattern on all of them. Noah’s words are recorded as though they were spoken shortly after he sobered up and realized what had happened but sometime after Canaan had been born, for how could he have known of Canaan’s existence had he not already been born? If Canaan were the offspring of Ham and his mother, Noah’s words would have needed to be spoken at least nine months after the events in Noah’s tent, and if they were, indeed, an end-of-life blessing, that would have needed to be near the end of his life, unless you want to assume that Noah never did or said anything about his son’s horrible conduct until many years after it happened. But the record does not support that. The more plausible explanation is that Noah cursed his son, Ham, in the name of the name of the son of Ham that Noah foresaw would most fully express the sexually perverse nature of Ham. After all, Sodom and Gomorrah were Canaanite cities! In fact, it could be that the events in the tent were far enough after the flood that Canaan had already been born and had shown his perverse tendencies. I have read that it was a known practice to curse someone in the name of one of their sons. And this make sense for it seems that Canaan’s brothers and Japheth and Shem are one and the same. It might be argued that this would support the idea of incest. However, in chapter 10, the sons of Noah are listed as Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Canaan is not listed as Noah's son; he is listed as Ham’s son. So, it is not as though whatever happened in the tent caused Ham to be written out of the lineage. Rather, in the blessings/curses, Noah refers to his son, Ham, by the name of the son of Ham who would prove to be most like Ham. And it is not surprising that the Scriptures would belabor the point that Ham was the father of Canaan, for it was the descendants of Canaan who had occupied the land that God would later give to the descendants of Shem through Abraham. Since Moses wrote this as the Israelites were in the wilderness, he was simply making it obvious that the Israelites were going to dispossess the descendants of a specifically cursed people. As to the nakedness of one’s father’s wife being equated with the nakedness of one’s father, it is important to read a larger portion: Leviticus 18: “7The nakedness of your father or the nakedness of your mother you shall not uncover. She is your mother; you shall not uncover her nakedness. 8The nakedness of your father’s wife you shall not uncover; it is your father’s nakedness.” Note that specific mention is made of one’s mother separately from one’s father’s wife. Also, the nakedness of one’s mother is not called the nakedness of the father, but is mentioned distinctly - she has her own nakedness, so to speak. So, Leviticus 18.7 refers to “biological parental incest” while 18.8 refers only to a sort of “legal parental incest,” for the woman involved is not related to the offender in any but a legal sense. It should also be noted that to uncover a person’s nakedness did not merely mean to take the clothes off of someone. Later in Leviticus 18, uncovering the nakedness of one’s granddaughter is prohibited. Does this mean that a man would be prohibited from changing a granddaughter’s diaper? No, it is rather clear that uncovering someone’s nakedness (or purposefully looking in on a person’s accidental nakedness) included the idea of sexual purpose. So, the meaning of the passage in Genesis 9 is most likely that Ham purposefully looked at his father’s nakedness with perverse pleasure (and maybe did more since it would appear that Noah was not just drunk, but passed-out drunk) and when Noah sobered up and realized what Ham had done to him, he issued the blessings/curses found in Genesis 9, cursing his son, Ham using the name of the son of Ham who would express the greatest tendency to Ham’s perverse nature.

However you could talk to a rabbi and ask for his take on this. It does make sense though but I stand with God's word...it is infallible even if we don't understand it. Look is intentional. Saw is unintentional. It is a sin to be drunk. It is a sin to be in drunken nakedness. It is a sin to curse someone. I walk in on my boss comiting a crime. I relay this info to a couple of co-workers. The co-workers refuse to examine the crime while actively covering it up. What outcome do you think will happen when boss finds all this out? The entire Bible gives zero bad character references to Ham. The entire Bible is absent of saying Ham had sinned. Not a single honorable story is told about Noah after this point. Noah started the new word by planting a vineyard and getting drunk. Although it is clearly written people still cover for the sins of Noah and smear the whistleblower. This story plays out to this very day. And btw this is the first mention of servitude or slavery mentioned in the bible and was prophesied before it took place. Thanks Noah!

I AGREE. If God didn't say rape then it WASN'T! The Bible was clear on the rape among David's children..... why would he be vague here? He saw his fathers naked body.....PERIOD. That was the sin. That's why the other brothers covered their father's body walking backwards. If seeing the nakedness alone wasn't the sin, then walking backwards to cover their father would have been unecessary. Mom wasn't mentioned AT ALL. If there was anything incestuous, that sin would have been made clear, just as it was among Lot and his two daughters. God promised to route their entire line from the face of the Earth. Let's not add to the scriptures. Better to just leave it alone and take it for what it says.

@@hayride5953 Exodus 20:5-6 KJV - Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, VISITING THE INIQUITY (sin) OF THE FATHER'S UPON THE CHILDREN UNTO THE THIRD AND FOURTH GENERATION OF THEM THAT HATE ME; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS. To love God is to OBEY GOD. 1 John 5:3 KJV - For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. To HATE God is to INTENTIONALLY disobey. One of the VERY FIRST commands given to Adam and Eve was TO COVER THEIR NAKEDNESS.... also called COVERING THEIR SHAME. It was sin...... period! And a very COSTLY sin as God had to KILL an innocent animal to cover them when they became aware that they were naked. An awareness they gained by DISOBEYING GOD. And when she had first covered her shame with figleaves, she gave thereof to A'dam and he ate, and his eyes were opened, and he saw that he was naked. And he took figleaves and sewed them together, and made an apron for himself, and covered his shame. And ELOHIYM cursed the serpent, and was wroth with it forever. And he was wroth with the woman, because she hearkened to the voice of the serpent, and did eat; and he said unto her: I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your pains: in sorrow you shall bring forth children, and your return shall be unto your man, and he will rule over you. And to A'dam also he said, Because you have hearkened unto the voice of your woman, and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat thereof, cursed be the ground for your sake: thorns and thistles shall it bring forth to you, and you shall eat your bread in the sweat of your face, till you return to the earth from whence you were taken; for earth you are, and unto earth shall you return. And he made for them coats of skin, and clothed them, and sent them forth from the Garden of Eden. And on that day on which A'dam went forth from the Garden, he offered as a sweet savour an offering, frankincense, galbanum, and stacte, and spices in the morning with the rising of the sun from the day when he covered his shame. And on that day was closed the mouth of all beasts, and of cattle, and of birds, and of whatsoever walks, and of whatsoever moves, so that they could no longer speak: for they had all spoken one with another with one lip and with one tongue. And he sent out of the Garden of Eden all flesh that was in the Garden of Eden, and all flesh was scattered according to its kinds, and according to its types unto the places which had been created for them. And to A'dam alone did he give the wherewithal to cover his shame, of all the beasts and cattle. On this account, it is prescribed on the heavenly tablets as touching all those who know the judgment of the Torah, that they should cover their shame, and should not uncover themselves as the other nations uncover themselves. YOVHELIYM (JUBILEES) 3:28-37 את CEPHER And AFTER THE FLOOD.... Noah reiterated the laws of God to his sons and grandsons.....one of which being that they were required TO COVER THEIR SHAME (nakedness). And in the twenty eighth jubilee Noach began to enjoin upon his son's sons the ordinances and commandments, and all the judgments that he knew, and he exhorted his sons to observe righteousness, and to cover the shame of their flesh (nakedness), and to bless their Creator, and honour father and mother, and love their neighbour, and guard their souls from fornication and uncleanness and all iniquity. YOVHELIYM (JUBILEES) 7:20 את CEPHER This also served as a VERY IMPORTANT prophetic picture where the promised seed of Eve (Jesus) would later COVER OUR SHAME (sin) by his blood on the cross. To be "covered (clothed) in righteousness" is to "put on Christ's righteousness". Not to mention.... in his drunken induced sleep some extra- biblical books claim (testament of Noah) that Noah had a dream where the decendants of one of his sons would sow darkness (evil) among the Earth. That son turned out to be Ham. Nimrod, who led the people of the Earth into sin was a decendant of Ham. PLUS Canaan STOLE land alotted to Shem's son, Arphaxad. (Book of Jubilees) And Ham warned Canaan that he'd be CURSED by God if he continued to settle the land that wasn't his. And he proceeded to do so and was later CURSED. That curse came to fruition when Arphaxad's decendant, Abraham was promised the land, that would be recovered by Jacob and his 12 sons, the rightful owners. Shem was blessed to have ALL of God's Holiest Sites land in HIS inherited territory. Canaan stole one site which would later become Jerusalem, and where God would place HIS house and HIS chosen people. The seed of Eve was to come through Shem's line. The seed that would REDEEM mankind. And that seed would die in Jerusalem and then reign in Jerusalem where God's throne (Temple) was. Canaan... ignorantly put himself in opposition to God with his selfishness and thievery... no doubt tempted by Satan himself. Thou shall not steal...treat ur neighbor as yourself.... laws he also broke. Hope this offers some insight, brother. God is just and not to be questioned. Prior to Jesus.... sin came at a VERY high cost. God didn't play. He just FLOODED the Earth, killing everbody and this fool acting up already???🤦🏾‍♀️

“Comparing Lot’s daughters with Ham” is excellent biblical research. We read scripture and notice these reoccurring themes like the slaying of children 2 years old and under in both old and New Testament, and don’t always stop to make the connection. But blessed is the one that does! The “uncover his nakedness” in Leviticus 18 is a bombshell! But that’s because I never read (studied )Leviticus. I will now! All scripture counts and is interconnected with all other scripture. Old and New Testament! There is no “small talk”, no filler, no chit chat, in the Bible! Every line has dunamis power.

It's also possible that the major infraction was not viewing his father naked, but telling his brothers about it and thus publicly humiliating his father. Noah found out what had happened while he was passed out presumably because his other sons told him. He knew that every single person on the planet now knew that he got drunk and passed out naked. We even know about it today, thousands of years later. I don't like extrapolating unknowns in the Bible by use of patterns. Patterns do exist in the Bible, but not everything fits into one or fits the way we think it fits. There's no harm in not trying to figure out everything that's not explicitly stated in the Bible. Some things that aren't stated just aren't that important. I think the story is very straight forward in light of the presumed patriarchal culture of the time. Remember in Leviticus, striking or cursing your parent was punishable by death. If your father spit in your face, you would be disgraced for 7 days. Presumably raping a parent (much worse than just striking one) would also be punishable by death.

Thank you my friend, I am comforted by the history in the bible as well. God chose many people to deliver His message to the people and those people were constantly rejected. It's part of putting yourself out there, you get the bad with the good. Even some Christians who don't know how to disagree without being disagreeable. This is a path I must walk as I think its where God is leading me, no matter the flack that comes with it. Jesus' path was not an easy one either. But thank you very much for the encouragement. Wow this is review was well done. Thanks for sharing! To the readers, Lets not forget that HAM also had 3 other sons in addition to Canaan. They are Put (Libya), Mizzriam (Egypt), and Cush (Sudan). Which also represents dark skin people of mainland Africa. This curse was not upon those lands (3) but only on Canaan (Israel). Very important to note. Also, equally important to note, lets not forget that the European colonizers of the 16th century used this biblical "curse of Ham" to justify the Atlantic slave trade and so did the Confederates of the South in USA prior to the Civil War (1861 -1865). Grounds which some use to this day to justify so called inferiority of dark skin, and colored people. Which is simply a fallacy. African people, The Holy Bible is not disconnected from our historical heritage. We are beautiful, intellectual and highly loved by our Lord God. AMEN. So he arose and went. And behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace the queen of the Ethiopians, who had charge of all her treasury, and had come to Jerusalem to worship, Acts 8:27

I have heard in the past what you are describing, and agree it is a wrong world view. That is why I constantly stress that everyone that professes the Jesus Christ is their Lord and Savior is my brother and sister in Christ. Period. We are all God's children and he wants us all to come to him, although we know that not everyone will make it. But in no way does that imply any kind of color barrier to the Gospel of Jesus Christ being readily available to everyone. The sins of Ham and his family, have already been paid for in Egypt. All who call on the name of Jesus, are united in the Body of Christ. African people are loved and cherished by God. The only tidbit that I will say, that it's historically understood the Cush's descendants settled into Ethiopia. God Bless

If Ham seeing the nakedness of his father means that he raped his mother, why did Japheth and Shem walk backwards to cover Noah with a blanket? You have too much emphasis on what you see as repeated patterns, and not enough consideration of the plain reading of the text. He "saw" the "nakedness" of his father and told others about it. Might just mean he saw the nakedness of his father and told others (instead of helping his father by covering him). His brothers then covered Noah respectfully as a servant would do. Because Ham didn't help his father in his time of need, Canaan, likely Ham's firstborn and favorite, was cursed to be the servant that his father refused to be instead of the family ruler Ham would have prepped him to be. Canaan may also have had the same haughty nature as his father. Shem and Japheth are said to be brothers. They likely were brothers as in that they got along and worked together- both of them worked together to cover Noah, so they must have had the same attitude. Genesis 9:22 calls Shem and Japheth the 2 brothers of Ham. The evidence is not there that he was disowned, and the idea that Ham raped his mother and was disowned is not reqiuired by the text and also adds nothing to the text. Ham had no compassion and did not help his father in need, and so Canaan was cursed to be the servant of "his brethren". The phrase "his brethren" in verse 25 is referring to Ham in verse 24, not saying that Canaan was brother to Shem and Japheth. The two verses are saying that Canaan will be a servant to Ham's brethren who are Shem and Japheth.

You missed a key part of biblical truth. "A curse without a cause cannot come". You have also either missed and/or discounted the idea that Noah came out of the ark, became a husband man, planted a vineyard, harvested, aged said wine in order to become drunk from it and consumed said wine. All of these, obviously, took TIME. The order to be fruitful had already been given. It is quite possible that Canaan was already born and was of some age when Noah curses him. Ham is not cursed. Noah's wife nor a rape is either named nor mentioned in the passage and cursing the innocent would violate biblical principle. So, your interpretation has some large holes in it. It speculates and ignores some key elements of scripture.

The language of "nakedness" is found elsewhere in the Bible. Leviticus 18: 16-17 "Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy brother's wife: it is thy brother's nakedness. [17] Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of a woman and her daughter, neither shalt thou take her son's daughter, or her daughter's daughter, to uncover her nakedness; for they are her near kinswomen: it is wickedness." If Ham saw "his father's nakedness" that's not referring to Noah, it's referring to his wife. That's why Ham's brothers backed in without looking. They were trying to avoid looking at their fathers wife (who's NOT necessarily their mom). Seeing this nakedness most likely means Ham had sex with her while his father was drunk. This was also most likely a way to belittle Noah and take over as leader. It would make sense that she got pregnant and the baby was Canaan, hence the curse.

I don't think that Noah got drunk intentionally, and I don't think Ham did anything particularly bad at this point in time. I think alcohol was a new thing to them in the world AFTER the flood. I think Noah got drunk by accident and Ham was following him around partly to make sure he was alright and partly for humor. I think the brothers may have covered him up so that Ham wouldn't see him and keep looking at him. He was already IN HIS TENT which is the place to be naked. I think Ham ' saw his nakedness ' which was ' viewed his nakedness ' which turned into ' viewed his nakedness a little too much ', so they covered him up to keep Ham from looking. When he came to, he was mad at Ham for harassing him and dishonoring him and it brought to mind the real reason for any ' curses ' which was Ham bringing a woman with heavy nephilim DNA concentration onto the ark. That is why he said that Canaan was cursed, because he showed signs of being a nephilim. Just my thoughts and trying to give Noah more credit for being the last righteous man left before the flood. People are so quick to reduce righteous Noah to a shiftless bum drunk, and Ham into a mother - raper.

I don' t accept this "theory," as you so aptly call it, about what happenned to Noah in his tent. The scripture clearly says that he became drunk and was NAKED, in his tent. Ham saw his nakedness and told his brothers. His brothers walked backward with a garment and Covered THE NAKENESS OF THEIR FATHER. That is clear as day. What you are saying is pure speculation. There is no mention of his wife even being in Noah's tent at that time, let alone being raped. I will stick to the plain reading of the scripture and not rank speculation, because that's just what this is. You're reading into the scripture what is not there.

That text is plain and clear enough for anyone to see that it has nothing to do with anything in those verses that you used from Leviticus. There are those that play fast and loose with the WORD OF GOD, personal interpretations, opinions, and theories have no place here. GOD'S WORD MUST BE HANDLED WITH CARE. They said there isn't enough information to reach such a conclusion. While I admit that the theory isn't explicitly found in the text, I still think there's enough information to support the theory. I don't know if the "firstborn curse" and the genetic lineages have anything directly to do with it, though. Those seem to be incidentally related at best.

Genesis 10:21 gives opposing birth order in different translations. Some translations (NASB) says Shem is the older brother, and I believe this must be correct. In order to fulfill the pattern of passing over the first born to bless the second, Shem has to be the second oldest - and not Japheth. It is important to note that Shem is also the first son Noah blesses, and also attributes his faith in God to Shem. Also, Shem's line eventually yield's David and Jesus Christ - therefore Shem must be the second son and not Japheth. Furthermore, the pattern of second born receiving blessings and glory is also fulfilled in Jesus as he is the second man that God personally creates after Adam, who was the original accursed firstborn that fell directly from God's grace. Jesus brings God's children back to eternal life through his atoning sacrifice and resurrection. Ham, Shem, Japheth.

I went over this with someone else, the top 5 translations of the bible in terms of usage all have Japheth the elder. There are 2 of the top 5 that have Shem as elder than Japheth. Then I went to the Torah, as the Jewish people wrote the OT, and the Torah says that Japheth is the elder. So majority of translations have it Japheth as being elder. I read Hebrew myself and I read the original text as Japheth being older, and agree with the KJV and the Torah.

This is a perfect example of eisegesis. Genesis 9 is not about Ham having sex with his mother, it’s about Ham literally seeing his father naked. Scripture has no problem talking about Ruben’s intercourse with his father’s concubine so there wouldn’t be a problem specifically saying if Ham did this with his father’s wife. Yet scripture doesn’t support this theory and Ham and Ruben are not parallel stories. Neither are the many other examples that are being used to try to force an untrue narrative. The incorrect explanation of why the land was called Canaan but not explanation for a land being called Mizraim. If we’re to use the same “theory and eisegesis explanation” then we would assume Mizraim also came about the same way. (Which of course is untrue). Scripture plainly explains that Noah got drunk from his vineyard and became UNCOVERED in his tent. (“And he drank of the wine and was drunk, and [He] became uncovered in his tent.”) Ham SAW his father and Told his brothers. His brothers then covered their father’s nakedness (notice how they didn’t cover their mother or cover intimacy). When Noah awoke and knew what Ham did he cursed Ham’s youngest son who more than likely had already been born. Noah being drunk in his tent (yet no mention of his wife) supports the context that Noah was drunk and naked. Scripture says it’s shameful to be naked. If uncovered meant intimacy then Noah would have uncovered his wife, but as scripture says Noah became uncovered in his tent. Or the brothers would have been covering “intimacy” or their mother like this video has incorrectly explained. How does covering “intimacy” or covering a sinful act like this occur? Why isn’t it mentioned that they covered their mother? Why isn’t their mother not mentioned at least once in the chapter? 16:09 Ham is mentioned as the brothers of Shem and Japeth: “And the sons of Noaḥ who went out of the ark were Shĕm and Ḥam and Yapheth. And Ḥam was the father of Kena‛an.” Berĕshith (Genesis)‬ ‭9‬:‭18‬ ‭TS2009‬‬ 24:00 God didn’t lead them to Egypt it was the Israelites disobedience that led them there. 28:40 Genesis 9:24 says younger son 30:30 It wasn’t only sons as your “theory” conveys because grandchildren were also included as Jacob’s grandchildren Manasseh and Ephraim were sons of Joseph yet were given a blessing and accounted among the tribe of Israel by their grandfather. It’s not uncommon for grandfathers to bless/curse their grandchildren. Ruben although he did what he did, did not have his son cursed by his father, where is the “parallel context” for that? It wasn’t written that Lot’s daughters seen their father’s nakedness so how is this a “contextual parallel”? And although sinful it was a different circumstance for their reasoning in doing that with their father.

What is your interpretation? Do you believe that Noah, a man, finding that he had simply been seen naked by his own son, another man, then placed a curse on his _grandson_ for that reason? If that is your understanding, i.e. that he only been viewed in that tent, what then, do you reckon Noah knew/perceived when he awoke from his drunken slumber which (apparently without yet having been informed by the other two brothers) led him to conclude that something had been done/acted/effected/worked/produced (Heb: [Qal verb] עָ֥שָׂה־] to him by his son?

@@mytwocents777 My interpretation is what Scripture says. (Genesis 9:22 “And Ham, the father of Canaan, SAW THE NAKEDNESS of his father, and TOLD his two brethren without. 23 And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and COVERED THE NAKEDNESS of their Father; and their faces were BACKWARD, and they SAW NOT their Father’s Nakedness”). Ham SAW his Father’s Nakedness, Ham didn’t reveal or UNCOVER his father’s nakedness. Noah had uncovered himself (Genesis 9:20). We can’t add or take away from The Word. We also can’t say or believe something as seeing his father’s nakedness was something simple and insignificant when Scripture teaches us that nakedness is something shameful (Genesis 3, Exodus 20:26, Revelation 16:15). We also have to remember that The Heavenly Father’s ways are higher then ours. He knows the heart and intentions of man. Using the context provided by Scripture we see the act Ham did was see his drunk father’s nakedness and tell his brothers. Did Ham know his father was drunk? Most likely. Did he enter into his drunk father’s tent purposefully? Most likely. But even without these two “likelihoods” we see that Ham told his brothers. The correct thing to do was done by his brothers (covering their father’s nakedness). One “parallel context” the man in the video could or should have connected is 1 Peter 4:8. The brothers love covered their father while Ham was unloving by exposing his father.

@@LivForYahuah Respect. I acknowledge your reasoning for all of your points. I personally believe the Genesis reference to shame for nakedness to have been a direct conseqence of sinful thought having entered man's mind from Satan, rather than a sense of shame imbued by God, as they had been created by God, and lived, in a naked state without embarassment up to the point of their transgression. The Exodus reference is sensible for a priest in a solemn and holy place of worship, especially given the original sin's effect of depravity on the human mind, and that in Revelation refers to avoiding being caught off guard which might result in a public display of nudity (or perhaps, more symbolically, an exposure of a shameful, impure lifestyle) at Christ's return. However, I do think, despite whatever cultural mores there might be anywhere, that it is quite natural, not to say that it is desirable but moreso that it is inevitable, for two members of the same family household other than the married couple to see each other naked by accident from time to time. To go and mock and brag about such an encounter is certainly improper. However, what strikes me about this story is Noah's harsh proclamation on Canaan (who, in the superficial reading of the account, had nothing whatsoever to do with it), and the peculiarly repeated emphasis on the paternity of Canaan through this story and in other verses as being Ham's. I think there has to be more to it than what we see on the surface. Agreed that we must not add to or take away from scripture, but provided we are not literally doing so (as a translator might) but rather taking certain hints to come to an understanding of a text which may purposefully have been left obscure by the author except to those willing to dig further to uncover the deeper meaning, I don't think this constitutes that sin.

@@mytwocents777 Thank you, And much respect to you as well! I agree that shame came about due to sin. Although it came about because of sin doesn’t disqualify it from being something shameful throughout the Bible and today. Nakedness being once innocent and pure is now viewed as impure and shameful which caused God to cover their shame/nakedness that Adam and Eve now had knowledge of. (Covering their shame to me also represented covering their sin and The Messiah covering our shame/sins but I digress lol). I do see Exodus also being relatable to us and all people of Christ because we are called to be priest and have priestly characteristics (1 Peter 2:9). We are representatives of God when we walk everywhere upon this earth and must carry ourselves in a way that doesn’t shame or dishonor our temple/body nor our God. I do see your point about Revelations 16:15. Although it was used to mainly show an impure life at Christ’s return, the analogy of comparing nakedness and shameful exposure to an impure life at Christ’s return still stands as nakedness representing something negative, which is why the comparison (naked/uncovered and shame vs clothed in Christ and purity) was used. Accidents may happen but instead of avoiding his drunk father’s tent and/or fixing an “accident” by covering his drunk father, he didn’t cover his father and also broadcasted his father’s nakedness to his brothers. His actions seems more purposeful and wrong rather then accidental. The proclamation of Canaan is insightful. Possibly the sins of the father was laid on the son. Genesis 9:25-27 may support this because it shows the blessings of the children of the two sons who covered Noah, while the other son’s child is cursed. Or was Canaan already wicked and instead of being blessed was given a curse? Scripture doesn’t explicitly tell us this and we may not have the exact answer to why right now. But we also can’t add or elude to something that’s not even there. Especially if another theory of what occurred is well supported by Scripture which was Ham seeing His father’s nakedness compared to a less Scriptural supported and eluded theory that Ham slept with his mother. The repetition of Canaan being Ham’s son occurred twice. Could’ve been to add context and clarity. We must remember it was a narration by Moses being told. Also, while many focus on the statement of Canaan being Ham’s son and being cursed there’s little focus on Shem and Japheth’s sons being blessed by Noah but many don’t jump to other conclusions or theories surrounding them.

Prophets do not have incest. You shouldn't believe this nonsense about rape and pregnancies from incest. Some people just invented this. Canaan is also a people not only a person. Cannan people are later bad (meaning did not worship God but perhaps worshipped idols) and then, later, holy Abraham was given that land. It is possible that one of the son's of Noah was an unbeliever and didn't get into the ark. S

Canaan was the youngest of Ham's 4 sons, the fact that, just before relating the case of Noah’s drunkenness, Canaan is abruptly introduced into the account (Ge 9:18) and, in describing Ham’s actions, the record refers to him as “Ham the father of Canaan.” (Ge 9:22) That the expression “saw his father’s nakedness” may indicate some abuse or perversion that involved Canaan, is a reasonable conclusion. For in most instances incest or other sexual sins are meant when the Bible speaks of ‘laying bare’ or ‘seeing the nakedness’ of another. (Le 18:6-19; 20:17) So, it is possible that Canaan had committed or attempted to commit some abuse on the unconscious Noah and that Ham, though having knowledge of this, failed either to prevent it or to take disciplinary action against the offender, and compounded the wrong by making known to his brothers Noah’s disgrace. God’s foreknowledge was at work, and since the curse expressed by Noah was divinely inspired, and since God’s disfavor is not expressed without just cause, it is likely that Canaan had already manifested a definitely corrupt trait, perhaps of a lustful nature, and that God foresaw the bad results in which this characteristic would eventually culminate among Canaan’s descendants. The most obvious evidence of the justness of the curse placed on Canaan is thus seen in the later history of his descendants, for they built up a particularly sordid record of immorality and depravity, as both Biblical and secular history testify. The curse on Canaan saw its fulfillment some eight centuries after its pronouncement, when Canaan’s descendants were subjugated by the Semitic Israelites, later coming under the domination of the Japhetic powers of Medo-Persia, Greece, and Rome. Because all of the sons and grandsons of Noah would eventual take possession of land the rape theory isn't totally valet based on the presentation.

If Noah’s wife had been raped by Ham while she was conscious, there would be no need for her two other sons to come in and cover her up. She could cover herself up! It seems to me that maybe she got drunk along with her husband and didn’t know what was happening. This would reinforce the parallelism of alcohol as with Lot and his two daughters.

Amazing!! Mind-blowing! This is the first time I've watched your channel and I am blown away by your scholarship of God's Word. Scripture definitely contains patterns and parallels, and you have used this truth to a greater extent than I've ever seen or heard. (I went to Bible School and taught Bible classes, but my knowledge is far from exhaustive.) Thank you so much! It all makes perfect sense now. About ten years ago, I heard a Rabbi talking about this passage, and he alluded to the concept of the r@pe of Noah's wife. Even so, I never grasped the patterns of Genesis having to do with the firstborn cursen and how that translated to this story. God's Word is so fascinating and exciting when you finally see His truths. When you showed the Fertile Crescent and how it creates a rainbow across the Middle East, it brought tears to my eyes to see how God's blessings are faithful and true. What a magnificent picture. I don't know how I've never had your channel pop up in my yt feed before today, but you've gained a subscriber. I can't wait for more. I intend to binge watch everything in your archives. This is probably the most accurate explanation yet. Keep in mind 2 principles that never cease to be in play. 1- The explanation to scripture is in the scripture. And… 2- God buries truth that only the diligent gets to uncover. That’s right! If you think you understand a passage because you read it once or twice, Or heard it in a sermon or a video, Just know that you’re probably wrong about it’s meaning. That’s why the scripture you thought you understood 15 years ago is not what scripture is saying. And you go “oh. I was wrong about that!” All true Christians experience this. This gentleman has connected some serious dots in this video. Now it’s my job to research.

The so-called curse on Canaan was simply prophetic announcement to bring Ham Down to earth. The evil example of Ham filtered down, by example, to his descendants.
