It basically mimics ice skates. Put chains on the rear tires and that will help the rear end from kicking out as easily

Change how the chain is mounted like in the shot with the bike chain broken down into 10 pieces. Going through the spokes like tire chains would be more effective

The chains are smooth in that direction. If you had short bits welded across between them (like a ladder) it would work much better for stopping. It might put you into the windshield.

I think doing that would make them more like traditional tire chains, and those are very effective for acceleration and stopping. Personally i have never used them on the steers, but I've heard it makes for a really rough ride for the driver at least in a semi

You should use chainsaw chains. The direction of the teeth would determine grip. Careful not to get cut.

Great works sir ! Just a thought about improving the braking with the chains, I’m thinking if maybe every 10 or so chain links you inserted an appropriate sized bolt and nut through the chain link so , the end of the bolt protruded through the chain link about 5 mm , essentially making the chains like spiked tyres. Given the nut and bolt would be slapping the road every rotation it may require a dob of weld on the nut/bolt to secure the bolt from coming loose or crush the end of the bolt in a vice .

I love the paint work on this vehicle! For stopping improvement the chains should be attached radially. I suggest an experiment with radial chains on the drive wheels, and like you did here for the steering wheels. For a second experiment, add the chains radial all the way around, then add chain like you did in this video over the top.

Id be interested in seeing 1 chain on each but not in the middle. Like all on outside or all in inside or one out and one in. I theorize this will not limit the contact of the tire on the ground as much, so braking would not be effected as much. And the offset for steering may allow for a quicker ability to grip.

Obviously you need 3 chains per front wheel to increase contact area, some of the chains also need to be thinner. This is because of the angle of the tire changes when you are steering. Normal snow chains on rear wheels would help with braking.

Cut a groove into the tire so the chains sit a little further in, just like the studs. That way you have more contact with the rest of the tire.

Might stop faster if you turn the steering wheel slightly (slightly!) left and right. Ice skates, after all. Next time, try putting crossbars under the chains at regular intervals. Reinventing the tire chain, but for fun. Mostly, I'm curious how long those bike chains will last, especially if you hit pavement. But there are heavier chains . . . .

How about just put two regular chains (not from bicycle, motorcycle or chainsaw)? Tire pressure will hold them in place and may be they would not get skids. Well anyway in tractor regular chains without any spikes will be enough, better than without them anyway. But there was some ladderstyle between them also...
