Because the ICC is a trash political court that they never signed onto. When it was formed in 2002, they claimed that they would only have jurisdiction in nations that ratified the Rome statute and agreed to be under its jurisdiction. However, them claiming jurisdiction in Israel means that they are declaring that they can judge any leader, from any country, even those that never agreed to be under the court (this includes the US too). Basically, do you want an unelected and unaccountable court, staffed with people from nations like Iran and Pakistan, to have unilateral jurisdiction over nations that never agreed to their terms? Because that's why people in the US and Israel are so upset here--the court is declaring itself above the sovereignty of every nation, not just the ones that signed up for it.

War is awful, and innocents die in event eh best perpetrated war. That said, the fact is that Israel has fought in dense urban combat, and achieved a 2:1 civilian to militant casualty ratio. This is nearly 2x better than we did in Afghanistan (3:1) and more than 2x better than we did in Iraq (5:1). It's also FAR better than the international average (9:1). This means that it is impossible to indict Israel for its conduct in its war, without indicting ourselves far harder. So people can say what they want about Israel, but any accusation they make against the IDF can credibly be made at least twice as loud against the US.
