I mean this with no ill intent and I express my condolences that this sort of violence is taking place in your country. As an Australian, we may not have a say in your election, but we most definitely hold stakes, being one of your closest allies and with a great history between our two nations. In 2009 I visited the United States of America for the first time, and did so on and off for several years very frequently. I would praise your country to my fellow Aussies and was proud of our alliance. It's a democratic republic. There are a few different kinds of democracies, a Republic can be one. Demos means ppl. The US constitution protects the rights of the Ppl to pursue their own meaning (happiness), so America is a democracy in that sense. And the government is of the ppl, by the ppl, for the ppl, so it's a democracy in that sense. But it's not a direct democracy in terms of how laws are past. But America is a democracy. It's a democratic republic.
