Sometimes I feel he over does it and other times I feel like alot of the videos runtime is like basic stuff? Like ya touching up but I like when he at least attempts to implement road hierarchy in existing areas....and a bunch of places in this city where a change of road type would have fixed ALOT

Sunken bus stop fix: When you break bus lines by deleting a road with bus stop on it the stop itself sometimes hides deep under the ground so that in order to pick it or delete it you need to hover in its vicinity to find it. In order to make things easier all you need to do is to put a piece of any kind of road over the lost bus stop and it will attach to it making it easier to move it.

Hello everybody, here’s a few tea related name suggestions from someone who actually lives in New Zealand 🇳🇿: There is a region north of the eastern coast of Auckland called the Hibiscus Coast, I never realised Hibiscus was a type of tea (used as a sleep aid I believe) Also on the west coast of the South Island we have the Kapiti Coast (LITERALLY pronounced like Cuppa-Tea Coast) The Southern most and smallest island is called Stewart Island. Maybe a tea related pun for New Tealand could be Brew-It Island? And lastly I have few names for some districts or buildings that you might like to use in the future. (My apologies if any of these have already been used in Teaport) Prison: The Chamo-mile (reference to the Green Mile) Hotel/motel: Bed & English Breakfast Sewage treatment plant/area: Pu-erh Treatment Plant (Pu-erh or Pu’er is a Chinese tea) Beach/waterfront: Oolong Beach (Yes I know I’m not the first to suggest this one but I love this name so much 😅) Thanks for having a look. No, it means very poor zoning, poor transportation system, and NO ROAD HIERARCHY. Without these 3 things, a city won’t function to its full potential.

@@orppranator5230 ah yes, infinite monkeys at typewriters theory. But i would be cool if the game let you do some more road design directly. Mods let you do things like turning lanes already, but it would be cool to be able to make a custom road type were you can place whatever combo of bike, bus, car, and tram/rail lanes you want to like how real city planers will make a cross section of the lanes and sidewalk for roads. (Some idots may put a bikelane between car lanes but you could have bikers prefer "safer feeling" infrastructure)

Your videos seemed like magic at first. Took me a while to start understanding how you diagnose the underlying issues, and the importance of good traffic management in the game. I've been able to unfuck a lot of my cities by sitting back and analyzing them from a Biffa-perspective. Roundabouts are amazing tools. Lane maths is important. But also more subtle stuff like not placing junctions too close, not forcing industry through the main artery that also leads to residential areas - by leaving them with other routes too.

Somethings that I try to ensure when building a city: 1) If you have a roundabout make sure that the next intersection from the roundabout is far enough away to allow for about 10 cars to queue 2) Make sure you have a cargo station (rail or sea) next to each of your industry zones and also a couple spread around your city for commercial products 3) Start off small on your roads, but leave space for adding wider roads later, i.e. road -> 10 units

A while back, I binged my way through a BUNCH of your traffic fix videos. Because of them, I was able to come up with ideas for fixing my city's infrastructure and traffic problems and included it in part of a paper for one of my college classes. Couldn't have done it without you!

5:38 Check the lane-switching on the cloverleaf, Biffa... People coming on the highway only have the option to turn right back off immediately.

Hello my saviour, i would like to thank you so much for this stuff, every single time i was playing cities skylines i stopped at 80.000 population because of traffic, for info i had like 5% traffic flow. Thanks of you now i have 83.000 people with 81% flow. Thanks so much :) :) :)

I actually build my cities with traffic de-spawning turned off. It's frustrating at times, but it gives me a chance to fix traffic problems as soon as they start, rather than letting them go unnoticed.

You mean the non-highway segment in the middle of the highway? It'll slow down traffic a bit, but shouldn't be much of a problem

This city heavily reminded me of my very first city. It's clear this is a beginner city, with those right angles. The owner tried to fix the traffic as good as possible, making roads everywhere until it becomes a nightmare. Too much industry traffic unabe to leave or export the goods, so all the trucks were trying to get rid of the cargo in the Cargo Train Terminal, I also could see very few ramps to and from the highway. Another road connecting both sides of the city across the water would be nice too. I realized this map has a problem with the highways: there's only 1 of them, so all the traffic is forced to go through the only highway available, so if you increase your industries, unless you get rid of the cargo using airport hubs and cargo harbors, you might face a huge problem afterwards. I don't particularly like to use this map because of that reason.

@XxTroki TIME Still, because there's only one entry and one exit, all the trafic will be forced to go there. The best solution is either build really big intersections like the Stark ones or build a few new highways. I eventually went for this second choice, having an intersection going in one of the corners of the map and the other in the opposite corner, that more or less reduced the traffic, having the industry areas far from the city and it worked, 85% traffic was ok but the highways were orange and red, not with traffic jam but with traffic flow. The maps with 2 etries and two exits for highways are a big relief compared to this one.

26:04 trucks can only turn left, making them go through that neighborhood, so they can't go right back on the freeway.

The ctrl + S for TMPE lanes is conflicting with ctrl + S to toggle node snapping. That's why i reversed back to Shift + S for TMPE.

I hate looking at unrealistically long bridges and tunnels. I've seen worse than this city, but this is bad enough to object to. Please don't do that folks! Bridges and tunnels are expensive. That's why they are as short as possible in real life. It's too bad that Cities Skylines doesn't have more balanced costs. It should be prohibitively expensive to build long bridges and tunnels.

Your tips and tricks have helped me fix my city from 20% traffic to 75-80%. I may have had to re-work the entire city, lose 30k population from 50k and spend over 1mil doing the transformation, but it was worth it. (Back at 50k population and still st 75%)

Offices do not block the sound, we use them between commercial and residencial just as a spacer to keep those two distant enough for the sound to not reach residents. You can test this in a noisy area, plop some offices and see how it does not make any difference in the noise viewer. Plop a tree instead and see how much it changes

A little tip: If you're building junctions/roundabouts/curvy roads manually, turning off all the snapping makes life way easier

tbh why would u even build 4-way crossings or mini roundabouts when u can work with 3-ways and timed traffic lights much much better, not every road has to connect when every 2nd works just as well no ? i rly avoid having more than 3 roads meet each other, so if i rly have to, its time for a big roundabout ;) also, i now went so far to force post-trucks to use their own separated cargo-airport, which helps a lot for other cargo transports when the post trucks are no longer involved :)

One trick I've always used for an industry area that has high traffic is a large 3 lane oval about (10 grid squares wide) in the center of the industry area with entry and exit points on the oval ends and dead end spur roads with the zoned industry that connect to the oval about every 10 grid square. I do the same for a warehouse district or special factories. It keeps all the traffic moving in one direction and eliminates any turning across lanes of traffic.

No reason to force industrial traffic to only flow in one direction. But you do want to prevent trucks from blocking cross traffic when turning into a factory. Use a road with a median to prevent that. Also useful in commercial zones for the same purpose. Too bad Cities Skylines truck traffic is so unreasonable. It should be built into the game that trucks block at most one lane when stopping, and most factories and stores should have service entrances, loading docks or parking lots so the trucks don't have to block any traffic at all.

@@dlwatib I've tried the median thing, but then that messes up garbage/fire. And when traffic goes back to the main road from as side street they still want to turn left unless I make everything right turns. After realizing that the left turns were always causing the issues with traffic, and I was forcing everyone to turn right, I went with the oval about - which is narrow enough, the center portion is just a really wide median.

Im new to the game and my main "issue" is 65% traffic in my city. Watching you helped a lot but still i rarely get above 70%, i have no idea how you do that, but you are like Traffic God or something

Yeah, many comments almready about people being forced to take a turn they maybe don't want to take. The general issue in this map is that crossings and junctions are way too close together. That limits the flexibility of changing lanes.

The roundabout with the cross street inside is a common structure in my city, Turin, but they work in a slightly different way with a lot of semaphores. We have a strange road system here that cannot be easily replicated in CS

Hi Biffa! The deal with the wonky bit of four-lane road @ 20:30 has to do with Network Extensions 2. It happens when you upgrade a road that has both elevated and groundlevel parts. Where they meet the lane connections won't line up any more. Glad to see you useing the Vanilla+ roads for your new city!!

That has never happened to me with NE2. If anything it's because of the anarchy settings he had on/off when "upgrading" the road multiple times.

If you notice, most of these cities made that are having traffic issues are having jams in their highways. Basic understanding of road heirarchy should lessen these types of issues. Most common problems I see is that there are a lot of local roads connected to highways and arterial roads. Local roads should connect to a collector road before connecting to arterial road that is connected to a highway. Highways and arterial roads are made for mobility, so traffic flow should not be bothered by having too many roads accessing it. Always bear in mind that highways and arterials are for mobility purposes. Collectors and local roads are for access purposes.

Biffa on some roundabouts I have the enter junction option on with the give way signs. This has the citizens stop for traffic but keep going whilst there's nothing in the lanes they want. Give it a try next time. Could help eleviate traffic a bit more.

A smart thing to do when wanting to diverse industry traffic, is making the industrial zone connected to any road with a higher max mph/ kmh / , so that they reconise a faster way in/out. Make sure this road got quik acces to any highway, or roundabout leading towards a highway!

Every time I use one of those cloverleaf junctions I always take out the roads on the very outside of it. It makes them use at least three out of four clovers. Traffic moves much faster.

My favorite part of this map is that all the turns are done with the straight road tool. Not a curved road aside from the roundabouts. Even some of those are square lol

this is the perfect example of how not to use roundabouts in a city. Yes they are efficient, but not if the player just spams them at every possible location lol.

Little top tip, if you use Better Bulldoze mod, you can delete awkward bus stop nodes like that one in the roundabout with 1 click

This is one of the best city fix episodes in a while because of pretty much one thing - Biffa used 0 traffic-lighted junctions to attempt to fix traffic, and instead used good old fahioned roundabouts!

Cargo, roads with too many lanes,, buildings in roundabouts and roads running through roundabouts are primary villians most the time. 😉 Great fix. Really enjoyed it.

@ 11:09 Seven roundabouts in a row is horrible, especially the six tiny ones that don't have sufficient room for all the traffic to merge. Coordinated signal lights would be preferable. Biffa can make it work in Cities Skylines with TP:PE, but in real life it won't work. In actuality you really want the collector traffic to go straight through without stopping or slowing down unreasonably for roundabouts. Eliminate at least half of the intersections altogether (preferably 2/3rds). Make cross traffic do the stopping/yielding on all intersections that remain using stop signs or yield signs, not roundabouts. If necessary, prohibit left turns. Left turn traffic can make three rights instead.

Yes, I agree the whole second collector is unnecessary especially without roundabouts or controlled intersections. And way too many connections. Could have at most half as many.

for those two four-lane roads right next to each other, i think using a 6 or 8 lane road (or even a 12-lane road i found a great 12-lane road asset i'll edit and put it here if anyone wants it) would be better than the one road being so much more used than another one right next to it

That offramp by the cargo terminal I wouldn’t of reduced it to two lanes I would’ve left. It is three, but use the lame selector tool to make sure that the right lane goes off the two left lanes shift or stay left in the right lane becomes an offramp for the second exit that they put cause you need a queuing Lane
