I’ve lived in Idaho my whole life and have hunted it for 55 years. Most of our land is public domain. Most is National Forest & BLM . That means it belongs to everyone in the nation & ur all welcome to help me hunt it.

I'm currently planning my very first out of state hunt to Idaho. 2025 is when I'm going, gotta get all my gear and do my research. Any tips, tricks, information for me? I'm going for mule deer, grew up tenting and hunting in PA but have never hunted or tented outside of my home state. I'm looking at the central part of the state near 36, kind of right off of highway 75.

The guy who got that big buck is like 1 in a million chance. Usually someone traveling that far to an unknown area with an OTC tag and never shot a mule deer has no chance to get a monster. Just wow.

Why is it that some shooting a smaller buck triggered so many locals and "expert" hunters? SMH. Like they don't account for the most small bucks killed every year. I'll be going out to Idaho in 2020. Can't wait. Great video fellas, fun watch.

Great trip. I love Idaho. When I wanted big and broken hunts I left Montana by crossing the Divide, looked in the Selway and did similar hunts. Men willing to put the energy in that you do is what these large public land tracts are conserved for in addition to to the other “multiple uses” in the TR doctrine for management.

@@talisikid1618 You completely missed the point of the discussion. Or are you just unhappy to see so many people moving into Idaho? Perhaps you need to study a city like Boise. There you will find the left wing progressive marxists like mayor Lauren McClean, and the president of Boise State, Marlena Tromp, a radical lesbian leftist marxist. Now ask yourself this: Who the hell voted for these radicals? Surely it wasn't the newly arrived - no, these were long term residents of Boise who did this. The people moving out of Washington, Oregon, and California are primarily CONSERVATIVES who are literally fleeing left wing tyranny.

I’m not huge fan that we allow non residents to get two tags because this happens all too often. First tag gets used on a dink which takes away from numbers and building quality age class. Don’t blame people for taking advantage of the rules though. Great job on the video. Always love watching them when they come out. It slightly eases the pain of the off season haha.
@45auto
@45auto 5 жыл бұрын
I appreciate your view but if non-residents are allowed 2 tags it is because there too many elk for the carrying capacity.
@idaho4allguns836
@idaho4allguns836 5 жыл бұрын
We can't blame the hunters for taking advantage of a system that there state doesn't offer and Idaho doesn't care about. Idaho is way to generous with the 2nd deer tag for residents and non residents.
@paulhaislip8435
@paulhaislip8435 5 жыл бұрын
45 Auto I don’t know if they always set carrying capacity according to science. There’s a balance between tag allocation/opportunity vs true carrying capacity. I think many of the units could have a much higher carrying capacity but they have to balance it out with opportunity. I don’t think it’s all on science. And I admit I could be wrong. I like to see the evidence based science on how they set carrying capacity. Honestly, I don’t really know. I’m just basing my view off observation and some units just get hit harder than others so that skews people’s view too.

What a great video of what Idaho will be like. As I mentioned in the trailer for this one, my Army bro and I are planning on doing an OTC mule deer hunt as our first western hunting trip. Definitely big and broken as the title says. What a blessing for that deer to expire next to a mountain stream with actual clean water. I for one am not that confident nor trained in such long shots, so hopefully I can get closer. My Army bro is trying to set his 7mm Rem Mag up for possible long shot. Not sure if that Browning Hells Canyon Speed is a 300 WM or 7mm Rem Mag or something else, but great shot, that is what lots of practice and knowing your equipment does for you. I would be happy just to see some animals within range let alone take a buck like Brandon did or be as amazingly lucky and blessed to have one's first mule deer be that absolute stud non typical like that guy from MD with that giant dropper buck. Something in between would be sweet obviously as well for my bro and I. Great job guys, I always enjoy your hunt films. Grats to Brandon on that buck and some juicy mule deer backstraps.

@@GOHUNT you guys are welcome I definitely did. Okay the Long Range not the Speed version. Makes sense for what you are doing. Can't go wrong with a .284 caliber for all around or long range hunting and shooting applications including that newer hot high BC round in the 28 Nosler. Thanks for the reply and answering my question. Good luck this upcoming season including your extremely busy season as of right now. aka application season.

From what I know they want samples but its not required so I don't think it would matter. If you get stopped at a check point they may do it, but it is a question to be asked if your gunna do a Mount, they probable wont. I got my deer tested and thats the first thing he asked me, if I was ok with it and not mounting it. They wont if you dont want it done.

I just watched this again. Second time. I just stumbled onto it. But now I'm going to bookmark it. It's just a nice quiet peaceful video. Music's OK and that country is simply so beautiful. And great attitudes. But you know, Brandon, Lorenzo thinks he's better than you. He thinks he looks like that movie star who worked with that woman who was the star of Pretty Woman. An he's conceited. And there are times when you're doing something, talking smack, that you can tell he's just about to burst out laughing at you. Not sure I'd want to sleep in the same tent with him.

What rifles are you guys shooting? Optic?
@GOHUNT
@GOHUNT 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Thomas. Thanks for reaching out and for checking out the video. Brandon and Lorenzo were both shooting Browning X-Bolt rifles in this video and if we remember right, both were 28 Nosler. Optics on the rifle, Brandon shot his buck with a Vortex Viper PST Gen II 5-25x50 which is a super solid riflescope. If you have specific optics questions and want to talk with someone directly on the team, you can always reach out to Cody Nelson at optics@gohunt.com and you can see all the riflescopes we carry in the goHUNT Gear Shop here: shop.gohunt.com/collections/optics/riflescopes Best of luck this fall!

@@GOHUNT I'm so pumped to get out and do this style of hunting. I've backpacked my whole life. Hunted my whole life...now I'm going to combine the 2. I grew up in Northern Idaho, Pierce to be exact. I'm used to brush hunting, and I'm ready for something new. Just snagged the Hells canyon speed in 300win mag. This season can't come fast enough

@@thomasknapp7236 Pierce, ID is in beautiful country. The logging was going strong, when our family lived in a tent there summer of 1954. Daddy was hauling logs to the little saw mill. Us kids ran wild that summer. We found some mules, chased them for a couple of days, and finally ran them into an old, roofed, hay lean-to. We eared one down and oldest brother had one heck of a short ride. We spent days swimming in the creek, berry picking, and poaching when necessary. A family of six with teenagers can eat your folks into the poor house. It was one of the best Summers we ever had.

Just curious as to why no one was in any orange during rifle season?

Great question! In Idaho you are not required to wear orange.

How did you get 2 deer and 2 elk tags.
@GOHUNT
@GOHUNT 5 жыл бұрын
The state allows hunters to buy a second deer and elk tag for hunting in general season units if nonresidents don’t buy all the tags allocated to them.

Using my kids account. Anyways I hunt in Idaho around the Frank church areas. We use long range guns and practised with them all summer. 338 edge and shoot deer from 400 to 1000 yards.
