CAZ SHOULD STOP PLAYING THE VICTIM, HE LET BIG HANK USE THE LYRICS, HE DIDN'T KNOW THAT IT WAS GOING TO BLOW UP LIKE THAT, NOW MELLIE MEL REALLY NEED TO STOP IT, BECAUSE THEY ALSO LEFT THE STREET AND WENT MAINSTREAM AND PUT IT ON WAX AND SO ALL THESE RAPPERS SHOULD STOP IT, CAZ MADE A MISTAKE, NOW HE KNOW. BUT EVEN THOUGH THAT A LOT OF THESE RAPPERS ARE GREAT LYRICISTS, I TAKE THEY'RE CREDIBILITY AWAY FROM THEM, BECAUSE THEY ARE BASHING THE SUGAR HILL GANG#1 FOR BEING THE ORIGINAL CHARACTER THAT JUMPED OFF ON WAX WITH RAP MUSIC, MELLIE MEL, CHAKA KHAN WAS VERY VERY UPSET WITH YOU, WHEN YOU CAME OUT WITH I FEEL FOR YOU, YOU JUST WENT IN THERE LIKE A MAD MAN A DIDN'T EVEN ASK HER PERMISSION TO DO THAT, AND YOU ARE UP HERE TALKING B.S, IF YALL WANTED HIP HOP TO STAY IN THE STREET, THEN YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE ASKED TO PUT IN ON WAX, YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY A FRONT, UP HERE TAKING $#@!

NOW I'M NOT GOING TO RESPECT CAZ AS A GHOST WRITER BECAUSE HE'S PLAYING THE VICTIM, I CAN'T STAND PEOPLE LIKE THAT, JUST BRING CONFUSION AND TROUBLE, HE DON'T KNOW WHAT THE HELL TO SAY, ESPECIALLY NOW THAT HANK IS DEAD AND GONE HE'S MAKING MORE NOISE, AND I DON'T LIKE PEOPLE THAT DO THINGS LIKE THAT , JUST TROUBLE TROUBLE TROUBLE. There is no way Big Bank Hank had ANY part in writing those rhymes. He wasnt even a rapper at the time. Caz probably had dozens of rhyme books and didnt even really know what Hank needed it for. Remember rap records wasnt even a thing back then. Rhymes were written to be performed live and everyone in the area already knew who's rhymes they were so Caz probably saw no harm in letting him check out one of his many rhyme books. It wasnt like he could perform them in the area and claim that he wrote them. Caz let a person that he saw as harmless borrow the book without knowing his intentions.

NO MATTER THE SUGAR HILL GANG#1 IN MY BOOK, THAT DID IT ON WAX AND NOBODY CAN TAKE IT AWAY FROM THEM, NOT GRANDMASTER FLASH OR RUN D MC NO BODY THAT'S HOW AND WHY MANY OTHER RAP ARTISTS IS OUT THERE TODAY PUTTING IT ON WAX, HELL IF YOU DIDN'T WANT IT TO GO MAINSTREAM, YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE PUT IT ON WAX LIKE I SAID AND IT WILL ALWAYS BE THE SUGAR HILL GANG#1 AND THE FIRST PIONEERS IN THE RAP GAME. 1 he trusted Hank. 😞 Hank said "I rapped what was on the tape". He knew he did Caz dirty and he wasn't rapping, rapping. Otherwise like Caz said he would have said that's not me I'm not a rapper. If it was his music, his art he was invested in he'd have said something more personal like I did some of my lyrics that I had on tape. I get it, it was different times as far as hip hop in mainstream music business, copyright, royalties and etc. Still even if he said I wanna use some of your rhymes, did Caz agree which ones. Did Hank offer any money for it or acknowledge him which, clearly, Caz thought he should/would at some point? I think all things considered Caz got stung because of the culture at the time and the misplaced trust he had in a 'friend' its a shame. He should get paid now.

Ethically it wasn’t okay but technically it was because they weren’t copy written and just free off of the top of Caz’ head ryhmes. And plus Caz said sure to giving Hank the RYHMES and should have asked more questions when Hank ASKED to use his stuff.

The Competency and Capacity element of a legal contract wasn’t there. There was also no Consideration meaning Caz should have received something in return for allowing Hank to use his lyrics either. Any verbal agreements between the two would have been void. It’s messed up that he slipped and said whatever but he would not be bound by it in a courtroom. Wonder if he ever talked to a lawyer about it? Probably was too cool for all that felt he would surpass Hank in the industry anyway, eventually, because his lyrics were obviously on that hit level. He still should’ve sued Hank down to his Hanes. 😎

@1980Triumph, yeah but as Caz says in another interview, since that time, he still has to explain to people when they ask and he is sick and tired of it. Everytime there´s an anniversary, evrytime there´s a sugar hill gang reunion etc it keeps coming back at him. It won´t go away. And now there´s talk of that track being in a hall of fame or something like that, Caz has now put a move on to get recognition for the lyrics if it´s to be inducted into any hall of fame and that means a lawsuit and getting paid from now on and back pay. People that write lyrics on top tracks earn multiples 1000´s every year and anyone would say yes to that including Caz. nypost.com/2014/01/26/writing-cred-for-rappers-delight-sparks-grudge/

Sylvia Robinson (singer, producer) could see it. Her name is on some classic raps songs from the early '80s, but i strongly doubt she wrote any of them. I wish Caz had talked to an entertainment lawyer back then. Michael Jackson, Teena Marie, Ray Charles and Otis Redding (and others) found out about it and reaped the benefits from it.

What was Hank thinking? The least he could have done was change the lyric instead of rapping Casanova Fly. For that reason, I think Hank is probably telling the truth regarding them working together on lyrics. There's a bit of malpractice on both sides. When Sugarhill Gang started making money, everyone emerged looking for their cut. Hank should have had the sense to change the lyric at the very least, though I'm sure he was caught up with what the record company was doing as well.

While I do believe that Caz was the better writer and probably wrote most of the stuff, he and Hank worked together for years, so I believe it when Hank says they wrote some stuff together. Why didn't Caz sue for royalties? He knows that his claim is bullshit. Hank was a great rapper and the fans loved him on the Mike. Here the rub though, the songwriter credit goes to Nile Rodgers & Bernard Edwards(the original writers of "Good Times"). So when the song get played on the radio or movies("The Wedding Singer"), Nile & Bernard get paid for songwriting royalties. Sugarhill Gang get record sale royalties which is not much.
