Did you know: That Big Ben is actually the name of the large bell inside the tower and that the tower's official name is actually Elizabeth's Tower.

Good luck going now big ben has been dismantled and the clock face remove, the bells won't chime till 2021, 2022 at latest

Would probably be best to wait until the clock is chiming again. Big Ben is a staple of anyone's visit to London. That would be like visiting Paris and not getting to see the Eiffel Tower.

ExplorerDS6789 I disagree, London has much much much much much more than just the Big Ben, I love London because Yh there’s lots of stabbings and grimy neighbourhoods but it’s mostly really really nice, there’s so much to do it’s so sad how the poor are being kicked out of the city and the poor that remain in the city have a hatred towards the rich

Fun fact: The tower is actually called the Elizabeth Clock Tower. The bell that starts chiming at 2:02 is actually called Big Ben.

Сейчас наступили такие времена, что стало возможным. Я в апреле ездила, там очень понравилось! Только погода подкачала, холод и дождь. Первый ролик загрузила, а Биг Бен тоже будет, даже громче слышно. И еще, я поражена, какой же зум у маленького Lumix, как у автора.

@IainH124A I studied at the University of Westminster and my halls of residence were about a mile away from the Houses of Parliament and occasionally in the morning you could hear the chimes.

Big Ben can be heard, if the conditions are right, from two miles away (I think by 'conditions are right' they mean Remembrance Day during the 2 minute silence and before the cannons go off...)

Just like London itself. The tower was completed in 1859, but I believe London has been around since Before Christ.

No, London was founded by the Romans (who called it Londinium) in the year 43 AD. There was no pre-existing settlement on that part of the River Thames. So London is *nearly* 2,000 years old but isn't quite old enough to be BC.
