Been building and flying model rockets since 1972. I have never tested a model built from a kit. I always assumed the manufacturer of the kit did, and if it was properly built, it was already properly balanced and ready to fly. I now design and build my own rockets. I always put talcum powder on the parachute before putting it in the rocket, to prevent the plastic from sticking to itself.

Used to fly those back in the day. i had Big Bertha, sidewinders, and others. The Sidewinders were awesome doing their rotations as they ascended ! I still have a four place launch pad and firing box I built.

As a kid I had a two stage rocket. It was Estes, but I don't remember the rocket name. Anyway, I launched and it went sideways. It angled towards the ground when the second stage fired directly over a rural rd. Well, the rocket was obliterated. Stuff of life. And I always cut holes in my chutes. Used streamers sometimes.

We followed the part 1 and part 2 to build, but now we stacked to put the engine in because the medal hook in the engine mount block it

B Bertha can be built as a payload rocket. A 3.5 oz payload to roughly 1300' on a d12-5. For better results use a 15" chute.🙂

I had a Big Bertha style rocket that had the clear payload tube section. It wasn't the Big Bertha, but the same design and size...little longer. Silly story, the kit came with an illustration of a child putting their pet Gerbal in. It read, "Turn your pet into a cosmonaut". I kid you not. So I put in some Gypsy moths from a nearby tree as a kid. They came back as green goo in the bottom of the payload tube. 😢

How high did Big Bertha go? When I was a boy, we would balance by hanging the rocket by a string at its COG and point into fan/blower of a wind air conditioner. But I thought we were testing if the fins where straight. This was 50 years ago.

Very nice explanation of the CG/CP as related to stability. The Big Bertha is a great park flyer. The Proto is a nice looking rocket also. The X-15 seems like a tough one to fly correctly, you've done a very nice job 3d printing it. Did you make the decals on this one? Very nice job! Look forward to seeing to future rocket builds.🚀

Yes I found a decal sheet image in Google then printed them out on some adhesive vinyl. Very pleased with the final result. I may try launching it again with a bit more nose weight and a higher thrust "A" engine.

@albert_vds
@albert_vds 2 жыл бұрын
X-15 is more of a glider so maybe an angled launch would be better. That might not be allowed? Or the rocket motor is too powerful?

Why I don’t see the engine mount with the medal hook when you insert the engine into the body tube?
@BillKurn
@BillKurn 8 ай бұрын
The engine mount simply works as a spring that bends out of the way and then snaps back when the engine is inserted.

You let me know if you have a mind to, I am on West coast time so don’t call after midnight or before noon as I am either stripping or making my rounds as we’re all vampires out here,thought we weren’t? Hope to hear something from you, don’t worry you won’t get any of this weirdness on you, however it my rub off on you?

@@HackaweekTV wow! How exciting for you. I remember way back in one of your videos you mentioned something about moving. Hope you bought a place with a big garage. I had to Google Asheville North Carolina. And from looking around at (street view ) from Google maps it looks like the kind of place I would like to live. I live in Central Florida on the East Coast. I can watch rockets go up from Cape Canaveral from my backyard all nice and all . But the Summers get a little too hot for me. I envy you, good luck with your move. Maybe you can do a video on your move. *Sarah*

How the parachute deploy itself ?
@HackaweekTV
@HackaweekTV 20 күн бұрын
At the end of the thrust burn there is a small explosive charge that ignites. When this happens it produces hot expanding gasses that propel the fire proof tissue, nose cone and parachute away from the rocket tube.
