#1 predator of bear cubs is wandering adult male bears. If they kill all of the mother's cubs, she'll immediately go into estrous and be available for breeding, plus new husband gets a free meal. Mama knows this and is running with pure rage in her heart the moment she smells the intruder.

No not 100%, but a lot more than 0%. Sometimes the spray will not deter the bear or you will already be too close to the bear for it to save you. No safety measure has a 100% survival rate. But your chances are infinitly better than without. Bears are treacherous.

That black bear was likely a male and it definitely would snatch a cub for a nice meal or it could. The number one threat to bear cubs are random male bears. Black bears aren’t big meat eaters, but depending on the time of year and how hungry the black bear is, it would definitely take the opportunity to kill and eat a cub it if could
@asterio84057 ай бұрын
They are both black bears. The black color one is not bigger than the female attacking it, actually it looks smaller. It was probably another female or a very young male. Adult male bears don't run from females like that, they definitely will stop an attack on a cub, back out and go another way when confronted by a mama bear, since they are definitely not joke, but they won't go up a tree like that to defend themselves from a female bear, no matter how angry she is.
@pedro1970maya4 күн бұрын
The relevant factor is that this is a mother with only one single cub. That means that she likely witnessed predation against one of her other cubs. and was not messing around any more.
