I've literally spent decades avoiding telling people about the free camping around Moab so it wouldn't get ruined. I've seen camping area after camping area get closed or turned into pay sites, then reserve and pay sites, or just get shut down completely. I hate KZfaq and Instagram. Next year everybody needs to go on a cruise for vacation so those of us who remember the glory days can relive them one more time before we walk away and leave the area to be trashed by influencers.

I’ve seen mountain lions in that campground. A mama and her cub were crossing the road when we were heading back to the Red Cliff Ranch. I come a lot to do Hells Revenge in my RZR. Just be vigilant with the cat around… I know they are there.

Hey guys, Tim here and I like your videos. I have a item I think you guys need to get. This can be a life saver. Yes it has gps so you can always find your way home on those long walks. It's the garmin instinct 2x tactical. When you lose your cell signal you can always have gps. Ps keep up the great videos

Man Oh Man! Just what we need is more people youtubing the gorgeous desert southwest. It has absolutely ruined the calm and scerene desert atmosphere with endless persession of massive rigs with trailers, OHV's, jeeps. I have really come to appreciate the true boondockers. The car camping, tent pitching, hikers that can appreciate the desert without trampling it to death.

We loved Dead Horse Point State Park. We camped there for four days. The sun rises & sun sets are wonderful and so are the Rim trail hikes & cliff rim views. Thunderstorms over the canyons, can be quiet dramatic. Sites have electricity, picnic tables with shelter, and there's a dump station. Just remember to bring your own potable water.

VERY well done ! Moab has changed a bit since we were there 20 years ago... Camping anywhere you wanted was no issue & it was the end of the Summer. Had one of the best dinners ever at a converted house with just a few tables and a great chef. It was a little spendy but it was so good & our anniversary, we didn't care. Hiking in The Arches & Canyon land are GREAT ! And yes; it looks a lot like Horseshoe Bend.

Once again you guys give me a birds eye view of a possible future destination. Thanks.

Bro-ab is a fantastic joint to hang out!! Arches, Canyonlands... Dino- Mite!! JJ reference for the Alphabet-ennials..... So much to do!! Just had my 87 yr old Pops there and we absolutely loved the energy the kids gave out!! What an excellent place to enjoy!!

Love the Moab area!...we went for Arches National Park and we too loved all the areas around it! a drive up the Colorado river is a must too!..so many places to see!

Moab is the most amazing place. We stayed a full week there and did so many trails we didn’t get to do half the things we planned. Long canyon and Pucker Pass remains my favorite

We really liked Moab, we also was there in July 2020, yes it was very hot, we stay in town and Dead Horse Point State Park, that's a great place, hopefully we get back there and boondock, awesome video...Horse shoe bend is pretty cool to see.

Hello KZfaqrs, I just found your channel. I enjoyed watching your video about Moab. I lived there as a child. My step father worked in the mines. When my mother and step father split, we went back to Oklahoma. I remember the winters were brutal. I was like in the 2nd grade when I lived there. I’m now an old woman in my 60s. I have got to back while I’m still healthy enough to hike and enjoy it. Thank you so much.

Moab is awesome. If you drive the scheafer trail you can stand on the edge of the horseshoe bend and there is hardly anyone down there. Awesome drive. Love your Besenji

Love Moab and love your Basenji Louie. I had a Basenji named Lucy and we took a few trips to Moab together as well. If you haven’t seen Fisher Towers it is a great hike and so beautiful. We’ll heck, what a find, a great couple smooth and interesting as you both show your love for nature and each other. We love Moab, Arches etc. It is too bad that more and more people will visit these wild and not so wild places and trash some of them, overwhelm many free camping spaces; but this is America and it belongs to all of us! We did the Adrift Adventures all day Jeep Arches and Canyonlands tour in moab. That was an awesome day. We also stayed at the portal RV resort, which I highly recommend.

Deadhorse Point is prettier than Horseshoe Bend, so you picked the right place to hike. Few years since we went to Moab and Arches so need to get back there. Safe travels.

Dead Horse Point State Park is a must see and do if you are in Moab. It is a hidden and little known gem. Great hiking and scenery for sure!!

If you get stuck at Moab you can call Matts off road recovery and get a free t shirt. ; - )

I had plans to boondock north of MOAB this September. Once I found that you had to pay I stayed at Big Bend for the same money. Word of advice plan to get a spot before 3 PM because after that sites get scarce real fast.

If you're heading south for warmer temps, our favourite area is around Kodachrome SP near Escalante and Bryce. There is great hiking and touring in the area and also good boondocking just down the road from the SP campground. The SP has three different campgrounds which are all lovely, some with services including incredible showers, but some with lovely views and a bit dusty/rougher locations. All great!

If you go through Escalante, you have to hike Lower Calf Creek Falls. Pasta Jays,Miguel’s Baja Grill and Zax are all great places to eat in Moab.

My wife and I just purchased a travel trailer, I’m looking forward to seeing these beautiful places out west. Great video guys!

Blink. I use the Blink camera system on my RV also. So far so good as long as there internet if you save to the cloud. If there’s no internet I leave leave my router on So there’s at least a LAN, and the cameras can save to the USB thumb storage. Curious to hear your review some day. Stay safe.

Thanks for another great video, I enjoy the opportunity to participate in your travels with my iPad. You’re a pleasant couple and refreshing to watch! I’m a lifelong camper and love to see how others camp with their equipment, gear, cooking, etc. Some commenters here obviously unhappy with the hordes of tourists descending into their lifelong favorite spots, and I certainly share their feelings and resentment. Seems to be so little respect anymore and I’m frankly at a loss to recommend a solution. Only thing I can come up with is to visit these places during off peak times, get some good quality gear, and tough it out during the less than ideal weather conditions. Not perfect but better than being elbow to elbow with mobs of tourists. We want to visit Moab this spring but not sure of the best time, some research is in order. Thanks for another quality video.

You can actually go into Arches from this campground and see dinosaur tracks along the way, you just have to make sure you have 4X4 to go on that route. The route ends in front of Balanced Rock!

Thanks for filming the boondocking! Ive wondered what it was like since the change. Next time take that road into the back of Arches!! There are 2 things to see. Eye of the whale and my favorite, tower arch. You can enter the park from there but there is quite the obstacle right at the back entrance to the actual park. You get in right before the windows.

Oh! Go back and do the Delicate Arch hike! You must! PLUS ... Corona Arch and Mesa Arch. I've been there a bazillion times and those are the best.

The road at 11:50 ends at the main park road near the Balanced Rock. You can enter the Park this way and avoid the Timed Entry. The road is somewhat challenging - probably need at least 9" of clearance. On a dry road, 4WD would not be necessary.

I camped for 2 weeks just north of you by the airport. I had good cell service. I left the BLM ground October 25th. Free camping.

If time allows, hike the Fisher Towers trail just about a 30 minute drive east of Moab --- along the Colorado River on Hwy 128. Easy and Epic hike and at trail end the views the west to die for. Was there this past Spring when a Japanese film crew was filming a blind gentleman climbing the Tower. Go Pro has also had some promo's filmed there.

Things are always changing. Some day you won't be allowed to " boondocks" there at all?

I must have been there just before you. I live in Utah, but had never camped at Island in the Sky or Dead Horse Point. You usually have to make reservations far far in advance for those or especially for the Devil's Garden in Arches. I looked for a cancellation and was able to get 2 nights so I snagged it. It is a very nice campground (Kayenta), there are two. The other is Wingate. I love our State campgrounds, but I really think they are overpriced. Dead Horse is $50/nt for electricity only. However the sites are all nicely paved and the restrooms are flush so I guess that counts. How did you like the Moab Brewery? I had the best burger of my life there a few years ago and I'm not even a burger person!

Moab is on our bucket list. $15.00 isn’t bad for a campsite; however, we will pass on the port-a-johns.

Check out Dinosaur National Monument, about 2 or 3 hours from Moab. Canyonlands NP is awesome too, probably 20 or 30 minutes from Moab.

How do you get access to your Blink security cameras when you lose cell service while hiking? I'm glad that you try to get to camp beefore dark. I have a pop-up camper, I really hate it when people show up to camp after 9pm when it's dark... they hunt for a spot and often shine their lights right into my rig, so disrespectful to other campers.

You should try Bryce Canyon while you are in the area.

You wouldn’t think it - but we Love boondocking on the BLM land around Quartzsite. Weather is great during the winter months. We just sold our travel trailer though, switching to a motorhome.

I was curious and looked up my own state's health code regulations about dogs. Letting you eat inside with a dog would be an absolute no-no here unless it was a service animal. Even outside dining requires that the area not be fully enclosed (which may even prohibit a screened porch, not sure), has a separate entrance which has to be used by people with pets, and has posted signs specifically indicating that pets are allowed in that area.

I never noticed this before until this video. You've got Louie's harness on upside down. Not sure if that's intentional, but I think the leash ring It's supposed to be at the top so that the leash is not around the neck.

Moab, Utah the home of Trail Mater .

That's a shame. We stayed there for a couple weeks 3 years ago, on Dalton Wells Rd., but they have priced us out, so we will not return there. So sad. $15 is a lot for us, as we are retired FTers living off of SS. For comparison we are wintering over in a nice RV park now in S. TX, near Brownsville for only $170/mo or $5.67/day for a FHU RV park (+ electric of course.). We run our solar in the park which spares the electricity we use. Even though we have a 50a hookup, last month's electric bill was only $25 as the weather is mild here. To be fair, if we have to run both rooftop AC units on our Class A MH, we have seen electric bills as much as $75-$100/mo. here. Last winter we stayed at the LTVAs near Quartzsite AZ/Imperial Dam CA that cost less than $1 a day and this includes not just a place to stay, but unlimited water, dump and trash disposal. There's plenty of other free boondocking areas in UT though - some near there, off Island in the Sky RD (UT 313) and a little farther N on 191 off of Valley City Rd (BLM 144) by Copper Mine Ridge.

My wife and I truly enjoyed this episode, very beautiful location. We will be taking a 3 month trip in 2023 and plan on doing some BML stays. Our most concerning issue/question is when we leave our beloved 19' 1999 Airstream Bambi to explore what are the chances we get back to an empty campsite? :( we have a pretty good lock but I know they are a joke to thieves if they really want your camper. any suggestions?

Will you be able to leave Louie to be outdoors w/o a leash as he matures?

You guys need to get a tie-out for Louie. That will give him 30-50 feet to explore instead of that tiny little leash you put him on outside your trailer. Also, why do you keep caging him in your truck? That cage looks way too small and it’s wire so it’s painful for him to bang into as your bouncing down the trail. Let him be free or get a bigger soft sided cage.

Is the boondocking safe??? I always stay in organized campgrounds, they seem safer.

It's called taxes. National Parks must be free. For $15 I can find my own bathroom in nature thank you. Personally I don't like seeing or smelling those portable ones either. Don't buy into their hype. Within a few years, it will be $25. She also said she will drive into Arches- there is another more significant FEE. I appreciate her light hearted attitude about fees. Given their clear wealth, they are not sweating the money- she even smiles when she talks about fees, however many in that area are struggling big time. Many are now homeless. I've run into these good people- deep in the canyons living off the land. One use to be a big city lawyer in LA. This is wrong. Economic and other policies have a real impact on people's lives. It is economic warfare and don't get me started on the homeless issues in town. Their solution- more fees. More regulations. Tragic...but I am glad they enjoyed their holiday. Do stop by some food trucks and at least support local businesses- I'll give them that much.

Although, I just noticed your KZfaq channel, and other similar channels, displaying van living. You can purchase inexpensive phone with a very low monthly price between 25, 35, 45, dollars a month with unlimited data and text, and some have Nationwide coverage Do your research for the best fit for you Carry Several Extra portable phone chargers, and cables. Consider theses items: *Mini portable power charging station. I have also seen outdoor portable solar powered power stations, that can be recharged from sunlight this may be very useful to have, to power your devices. *Invest in a Cellular signal booster for outdoor use, and camping situations to boost or amplify your cell signal and reception. Consider also the purchase of a WiFi signal booster to also boost your WiFi signal. Research to see what you prefer. *Very Inportant: Invest in a SOS distress electronic signal device, this a kind of device can send out a distress signal with your exact location. There are various types of these devices, and including devices that can be used when boating, or camping situations. *Some have emergency Strobe lights SOS signaling with location alerts, and location updates that can be sent to your family, and emergency first responders. Some can be synchronized with your smart watch or phone. There are some satellite SOS texting messaging, locator devices that will send messages with your phone even if there isn’t any cellular signal, or WiFi. With this device your can still text, and communicate with others in a emergency satellite transmission. Check online, for various emergency SOS products, some are small to fit in the palm of your hand. You can check online, and on Amazon, research what SOS devices will be a good fit for you. *Mini portable vehicle battery jumper charger *vehicle battery jumper cables *Vehicle Jumper cables *Keep a Fire extinguisher handy Smoke detectors and Carbon monoxide detectors can be helpful *Mounted Dashboard camera front and rear possibly. Exterior vehicle cameras Interior vehicle cameras *Flashlights or pluggin spotlights *Portable spotlights, and lanterns Keep a few whistles around with you, and in your vehicle possibly in your vehicle’s center console *A set of long range 2 way radios, walkie talkies, to communicate with others during trips, some have 100 mile radius keep for emergencies. Use your own discretion regarding the use of any weapons. Don’t forget to bring Bear Spray Pepper spray Where is allowed If you own a drone you can use it to survey your area for animals etc. However, Please Be Safe and Beware of your Surroundings. Stay Alert, and Be Safe even when stopping at Rest stops, Truck Stops, and conducting your various tasks. Keep in often contact with your family, friends etc. Keep up with the latest Weather Updates, beware and prepare for unexpected Weather events and conditions. Keep your vehicle gas filled Don’t chance your Safety by running your vehicle fuel or gas too close to Empty. Fill it up anyway, it will save you alot of time, and headache later on. Remember to keep up on routine maintenance, check your tires for wear, keep up with your fluids for your vehicle, like oil levels, washer fluid, brake fluid, antifreeze. Remember Because you are on the road riding for sometimes very long distances, and long periods of time, I would suggest investing in 2 sets of tires, and a spare, the extra set to rotate. Check the mileage ratings on your tires they all very. Conduct visual inspections of your tires often, check for damage, wearing, air pressure, etc Keep a pressure gauge to check your tires pressure and a tire pump. Keep towing insurance to Be Safe if you ever need it. It Doesn’t cost much try to get National coverage if available, or where you will be traveling. Keep Extra financing, and savings for any unexpected issues, vehicle repairs, and overnight stays, in a emergency or if you need to rest indoors.
