Every time I hear and/or see Stuart Adamson, I am at first joyful, then profoundly sad. Big Country had me as a lifelong fan from the moment the first few notes of In a Big Country blasted out my radio back in the '80s. Guitars sounding like bagpipes? From a Scottish band, pure genius. I had a brief, very positive, chat with Stu on the Big Country message board when I was researching to build a website to honour Skids, his previous band. I respected and admired his passion, and his compassion for his fellow humans that shone through on every song he wrote. Stu was an excellent guitarist, equally adept at planet-smashing power chords or quiet, sensitive passages. This video showcases how well he connected with his devoted fans. He also had the interwoven demons of depression and alcohol. Given that, it wasn't a complete shock when I heard he'd killed himself. I was devastated then, and still feel the echoes of that. Damn, Stu, I hope you made it to a happier place.

Stuart Adamson was such a unique musician and songwriter. His sound will never be replicated. The Crossing remains one of my favourite albums of all time, and never gets boring or repetitive. Stuart Adamson's distinctive guitar sound and personal lyrics, Tony Butler's groovy bass which jumps right out, and Mark Brzezicki's intricate and syncopated drum patterns. This song itself reminds me of my dad and very fond memories of it. A desert island disk for me.

Atualmente temos dado mais valor a celulares e deixado de lado as pessoas ao nosso redor como se um mero objeto fosse mais importante do que viver momentos reais ao lado de quem realmente amamos. They were one of those groups that you liked strait away the first time you heard them on the radio. And i was a 9 year old kid when this song came out. Its maybe there best single, and album. But there single look away is great as well, that came out 2 years after this in 1985. And by 1988 i had at least 4 of there albums. Its strange how us humans like a song after hearing it maybe once or twice, then some just grow on you to like. Even for as long as 2 or 20 years. But thats the mystery and beauty of music!!!!!!!!!!!!
